From October to January I had literally no phone signal or mobile data and aside from one or 2 annoying things like 2 factor authentication with banks I had no downsides. Reckon I'll just cancel my contract when it runs out

A great night out at the Capital Theatres Studio seeing The Land That Never Was. Really entertaining work from a gifted storyteller, @liamrees.bsky.social has the goods and yes folks he has delivered. Also appreciate having a Q&A with an academic host, always nice to see the other side.

Today's revelation: make your play's central an unreliable narrator so that any plots holes are actually a thematic choice rather than a glaring mistake. In totally unrelated news you should get tickets for The Land That Never Was! @trontheatre.bsky.social @sceneandheard.bsky.social

_and friends is thrilled to be partnering with Room for Therapy to offer group therapy sessions in our Glasgow space, running for ten weeks starting April 25th. Info doc and note of interest form are in the Linktree in my bio!
Text reads “Room for Therapy and friends: Group Therapy Sessions for the Scottish Theatre Community” over a circle sliced into four, each circle a soft pastel colour - green, peachy orange, light pink and a darker pink.

I had a chat with The Times about charlatans, making sense of the mess we're in, and The Land That Never Was Coming to: @sceneandheard.bsky.social (15th Feb) The Studio @ Capital Theatres (14th March) @trontheatre.bsky.social (21-22nd March)
A newspaper article with the headline: Conman who invented a country. With a photo of a tropical beach. An extract from the newspaper article saying:

Rees says he was struck by the sheer audacity of the fraud "The ability to say, I'm going to make up a country' was just extraordinary. And the fact that happened over 200 years ago helped me make sense of what we're living through now. It's easy for us to say 'Oh, we live in unprecedented times of post-truth' but, you know, there's always been charlatans."
There are parallels, he believes, between MacGregor and the crypto scams of today, or Elizabeth Holmes, and her fraudulent blood testing company Theranos. "Even looking at the way Trump and Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage invoke an idea of the past that doesn't really exist," he said. "They're all manipulating and scamming people in different ways."

The Land That Never Was is at The Studio, Festival Theatre, Edinburgh on March 14 and at Tron Theatre, Glasgow, on March 21-22.

Every time I see an org say they got less than they ask for I wonder how much of a shortfall they're dealing with. Mostly because I've run an org and know the strains but without more transparency everyone ends up fighting one another

They're a centralised ticketing service, provide a contact list of accredited media at the Fringe, and run some events during the Fringe. That's kinda it

There seems to be a lot of new (smaller) orgs getting multi year funding which is nice but we don't know who all applied so can't see what's been cut. Big one I noticed is the Trav got cut. It's mostly headlines but not as much known about if orgs are getting more, less or standstill funding

Out of curiosity what's the difference between these 4* reviews? Surely if there's a divide in them then we should either see more 3* or 5* so that 4* has a clearer meaning/value?

I think the format of awards having multiple rounds of reading (often sifting out scripts based on the first and last 10 pages) makes it so linear naturalism fares better as opposed to something more formally experimental

We had a few chats (and many spreadsheets)about this for the Verity Bargate '23 to keep track of themes and demographics and what made it through each round. Haven't done any reading in 24 so no idea how things have shifted though.
