Just in case anyone orders from tf-direct.com, they apparently had this posted on their facebook site yesterday...
Optimus Prime figure viewed from above posed like a swastika

I'm always fascinated by interconnected sets. Like on the Enterprise D I believe you could walk from the Senior Officer's quarters down a corrider into a shuttlebay and then sit in a shuttle.

It is a fairly subtle callback and the moment still works, but yeah, it's a nice "then vs now" bit.

The Infirmary and Quark's are actually part of the set as well, aren't they? So yeah, huge.

It's upsetting that that scene is cut out of the two-part version of the pilot, as it ruins the callback in Way of the Warrior

Star Trek has basically had three TV eras, and Berman was in charge for inarguably the most successful and long-lasting

As a Brit who is far too online, I always find it funny that almost no-one in the UK has any idea what the Rapture is. We just don't really engage with that stuff in the same way.

He could have shaved it off for a bet?

Well, he's proud for about one season, and then spends the rest of the show being extemely British.

It's interesting that so many of these films want to be TWOK and all of them give the baddie a super ship, even though the Reliant is basically on par with the Enterprise in that movie.

It's such a weird ommision. Like, I don't expect them to write JUST for the TV audience, but it's SO similar to Lore that not mentioning him just means everyone who remembers him goes "wait, did they forget Data already had a brother?"

LiamK @liamk.bsky.social · 15/10/2026
How the hell did Berman not demand that be written out?

Is there a reason Lwaxana isn't there? Like, did Majel not want to do a cameo? Whoopi came back!

I have not seen Nemesis since I originally saw it in the cinema. I... don't think that'll change any time soon.

That gap along the back does annoy me a bit. And I wish the toes were a bit more streamlined, but that's a general issue I have with a lot of figures these days. He's still great fun. And he isn't saddled with "tiny breastanimal gun barrel due to parts sharing" like most of the rest.

How long are either of these activities taking that they can't do both in one day?

Hopefully it gets a proper send off in the next one and isn't just heroically sitting in a repair station or something.

That's the thing... there are literally two weekly Star Trek shows on TV at this point. If I wanted something that felt more like TV Trek I'd watch them. (Never mind that both DS9 and Voyager had done episodes by this point that felt closer to a movie than this one does)

Insurrection instead has "remember when Riker was clean shaven?"

People point out that ST IV was arguably the most popular TOS movie and was "light and fun", but that film still had two huge hooks... resolving the situation from the end of ST III (Spock back alive, crew on Vulcan with no Enterprise), and putting our heroes in the present day.

Honestly, everyone talking over Worf explaining why he's here is hilarious.

I think that at this point the 24th century Alpha Quadrant is very well eatablished, so it's hard to go "oh BTW there's this race with super awesome ships better than our best ones who we've not mentioned before".

It's one of the few times I've gone through forums and blogposts trying to figure someone out. It was hard to seperate those who wanted her destroyed out of malice from those saying "wait, this doesn't add up". In summary, Jack Monroe is a book of contrasts.

Didn't one of them detail how to open a tin can with a knife if you're too poor to own a tin opener, which caused a lot of people to scream "for the love of god never do that!"

Amiga Power. And yeah, same. But I know people who also worked for Future who said that he was always like this.

Did we ever come to a consensus on whether Jack Monroe was well meaning but naive or a massive grifter?

Was Moore just giddy at writing the film and not thinking what would happen when he got back to the DS9 office?!

(To be fair to him, his score for ST V is also great. It's just... the rest of the film)

He's thrilled that at the third attempt he finally gets to be working on a good Star Trek movie! Hopefully that signals a change for the better. Right?

It's funny that each subsequent brige (Defiant, E, Voyager) looks "cooler" and more techy and like a proper starship bridge, but none of them are as iconic as the one with the big wooden horseshoe.

LiamK @liamk.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
That was the baddie though. This is the goodie doing it, which is a fairly big change.

LiamK @liamk.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
It works in the film, but I also don't know if it helps them in the long run. We've gone from the unknowable aliens who don't care about life, just technology, to robot zombies trying to make everyone else a zombie.

Even before this, we have completely changed how the Borg work with the instant Borgification. Locutus is a lot less special when anyone can become a Borg just by standing near one. It also makes them exponentially more dangerous. 2 or 3 Borg could take over an entire planet now.

No no no no no no no.

LiamK @liamk.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
It's easy to miss in amoungst everything else, but the Borg ship is "heavily damaged" even before the Enterprise turns up. Considering what happened 5 years earlier, this is extremely impressive work by Starfleet.

Which is funny as this was co-written by one of the DS9 guys!

I was similar at the time, but I think the E has ovetaken the D for me now (if I try and remove nostalgia from the equation). I really like it not being bigger than the D, as I think that's a lazy approach to making a "new version".

LiamK @liamk.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
It is also bad on a technical level as well, to be fair. I know multiple people (myself included) who didn't actually realise that Scott was dead for over half the movie.

I think it gets off on a wrong foot for me by having credits that are a bit similar to First Contact but worse. Like, the theme is just a bit twee and bland, which is extremely disappointing after the all timer of the FC theme.

TNG Piller: *solves the absolutely insane writer's room nightmare of the first two seasons. writes the most popular TNG episode ever. VOY Piller: writes a load of new age nonsense about Native Americans. Creates an alien race based on (largely ethnic minority) LA Gangs. Thinks these are good ideas

Technically Sinclair isn't widowed, so Sheridan was actually stealing that from Sisko.

Trying to work out why I love this but hate the similar moment in First Contact, and I think it's because if anyone can break the forth wall, it's Q on the series finale. Plus the First Contact version is clunky as hell.
