My husband is the calmest, most even keeled person I have ever met. Today, however, a shirtless man that lives down the street decided to chase the wild raccoons that live in my side yard. I've rarely heard that voice in our 20 years together, and I understand why said shirtless man ran.

When people ask me why I no longer watch football (I haven't since 2014), this sort of thing is why. Ray Rice was too much for me. It's exhausting as a survivor to constantly hear people excuse the Watsons and Winstons because they can throw a ball. Maybe attitudes are finally changing.

An acquaintance at dinner was floored about my lack of use of AI. He was shocked that I use a pen and write in a journal and on a calendar every day. He was determined to try to sell me on his method of "streamlining" his life through LLMs, and I actually just sort of pity him. Seems stressful.

I saw the viral mom at the baseball game post and her subsequent eloquent response, and I can't help but relate it to the day I was lambasted on Twitter as a bad feminist/abuse victim because my husband sent me a dress and a card that said "this will be beautiful on you" before a dinner date.

A newish neighbor down the street decided to get drunk and shoot off fireworks toward my house on this random Sunday night at 9PM in September. It scared me so badly because I thought there were gunshots happening. I have severe PTSD. I cannot fathom this behavior.

I've been recovering from a really awful medical event (I'm ok now), burnout and the whole grief over pet loss thing so eating has been a problem for me. I love Cheerios, plain, as a snack. I woke up today to my husband having made little servings of them for me. I love you isn't always said.

A neighbor had a medical emergency tonight (she's fine now), and as per usual my husband ran over to see what he could do (he was a first responder through college), and again as per usual, it turns out he taught two of the paramedics that were on scene.

20 year old me was barely surviving college, two jobs, untreated PTSD and an eating disorder. 39 year old me is supported, and loved an amazing career and life in a fairy cottage with the man (same one, you married him, girl!) of her dreams. She'd be beyond impressed. She'd be relieved.

I was cranky most of the day because it was hot and exhausting helping my in laws move into their new home. Once I finally sat for a second, all of that melted, and I got emotional. They lost their home and some family in Katrina. We got hit hard in Ida. Finally, some joy on the 29th. Healing rules.

Two interesting moments so far while helping my in laws move today: 1.) one of the movers looked at me and said "girl, I know you" and it turns out he knows my entire family from New Orleans and remembers me as a kid. 2.) I already dislike the neighbors and the HOA.

I was a teen during Katrina. It changed the trajectory of my life. Ida literally almost killed me. I ended up in an ambulance from heat stroke due to days without power. August 29th sucks. I'm so grateful to be moving my in-laws into a new home and eating pizza today instead of bracing for a storm.

My cat's ego is out of control when she goes to the vet. They love her and tell her how perfect she is, and that she's the most angelic calico ever, and they can't believe her age. Yeah, ok, I'll call them when she's a chaos demon at 2AM. (I love her, and I'm glad she's so healthy)

Small happiness: My mother in law officially changed her voter registration this morning and was so excited to call and tell me. She hasn't voted Republican in quite some time, but never officially changed. They closed on a house this morning and updated everything all at once.

Apparently, someone my husband knows from high school was running a Breaking Bad style lab in Metairie and got busted with millions of dollars of drugs and weapons today. He went to a tiny, religious, cult-like school so he's weirdly amused to recognize someone on the news.
