I am once again pretty exhausted thinking about how inaccessible creative industries are for working folk. I'm seeing plenty of people podcast the ideas but then on the other hand go 'well, that's just the industry isn't it?' in their next breath. It's still seen as a temporary visit not a career.

Here's the 9 games thing. Arcadey stuff mostly with a mix of stats go up and a bit of exploration (and sure, some pro wrestling). I guess not loads has changed aside from now accepting this gameplay in roguelite/like and deck building forms. There'd be Bushido Blade on there but forgot about it!
My 9 games thing. 80 days, guardian heroes, fighting vipers, Zelda: links awakening, castlevania dawn of sorrow, street fighter alpha 2, wwf no mercy, violent storm, streets of rage 2

RIP Pac. What a sad time for wrestling recently with he tragic loss of some incredible humans. All I've known is he was humble and kind to others. What an amazing energetic wrestler. Shocked really.

Sovereign Tower is great! Really nice dialogue in this narrative management game. Lovely art style as well! Sucker for games which use Ink as well. Always sparks inspiration! Give the demo a go if you can!

Bought one of those tiny ereaders. They work well after a bit of set up. Less plug and play initially. It works well if you only have a few mins here or there and don't want to just reach for the phone. Paragraph or at a time mind. Custom sleep screen by me!
Small ereader (X4 pro). Custom sleep screen is a xenomorph I drew in pen & ink. Looks nice on the display!

Forgot to post a bit more progress on this earlier in the week. Been dealing with a few dental issues over the past month or so, but this has been fun to chip away at between work and teeth pain!
Goblin painting WIP. I went from pencil sketch to scanning and painting digitally in Rebelle 8 pro. Really fun to paint in!

Some recent gouache paintings. Honestly, I find the medium a challenge Vs acrylics, but they work nicely with watercolour and mix a little better for quick <1 hour studies. Keep exploring diff mediums if you can afford to. They offer new challenges and approaches which expand your skills.

RIP to Screaming Mad George. Worked in so many horror and creature classics of my childhood. Worked with many people that became inspirations to me in film. It's heartwarming to see so many replies to the official post of people getting their first gig with them or similar.

The PM visited my hometown today, and aside from all the questions from some of the local racists online (thankfully they aren't all like that), the main one was 'did he visit the NatWest hole?' The NatWest hole is our top attraction in the town. A brick wall with a hole in it. Yes he did btw!

This is something that happens in the UK VFX industry as well. We're told never has more money been put into the sector, yet probably half to 2/3 of folk are no longer in stable work. Good to see this kind of reporting.

An art student reached out with 3 questions about working in the industry. Normally I don't have time to answer these kinds of questionnaires, but I slipped back into teacher-mode and figured I might as well share them with everyone else.
How do you create the most opportunities for yourself as an artist?

The old adage is that "You need to be in the right place at the right time" for opportunities to happen, but that also means you need to be at the intersection of those places and times for people to discover your work.

The more places and times you can create - by building your skills, posting work online, going to events, interacting with other people in a positive way - the more chances that one of them is the right one that leads to bigger and better things, in that moment or later on in your creative career. What drives you to pursue a creative career, despite its challenges?

I love building stories and entertaining people. Working in comics has been the most viable outlet for that, but I've also done work in animation, illustration, teaching, games and tabletop RPGs that scratches that same itch.

The thrill I get from engaging with people - the other creators I'm collaborating with or an audience that enjoys the work - charges my creative batteries and keeps me striving to learn more and make more. That act of creating and engaging people drives me forward through each new project. What's something you had to learn the hard way on your journey?

There's no perfect job waiting for you in this industry and, even if people help you out, you'll still need to prove your worth and carve out your own spot, because there are so many more people who want to create art/stories as a career than there are full-time lucrative positions available.

If you're fortunate enough to be part of a team, respect their time, ideas and hard work. If you consistently do that, you'll build a strong reputation that lasts and, over the long haul, surround yourself with like-minded people who you'll want to keep working and growing with throughout your career.
