We all hate Adobe but having to use AI to do what amounts to theft? Sure, I agree Adobe deserves it but this is going to apply to everyone. Small guys will get hurt while the big companies have the money to protect their code. I like the idea of more open source but the journey there will be rocky.

Ethically trained models are useless, unfortunately. I think the closest you can get to an ethical, usable model is one that's open source & ran on local hardware. Open source doesn't absolve theft but at least it's free for everyone. And local hardware consumes less electricity and no water.

😔 Unfortunately the M-series is still extremely good for productivity. But if you don't need that much compute, an Ubuntu install onto a Thinkpad could be your next move.

I use a Mac for work and I'm required by security to update to the latest OS. This is anecdotal but I generally don't notice the difference between major versions until something goes wrong - and let me tell you, Tahoe had a lot of performance issues for me and my team. Golden Gate hasn't (yet?).

Just bought RE2 Remake and RE7, both are heavily discounted on Steam. I've played through the original 4, 5, R4Make, Village, and RE9 but somehow just never got around to play 2 and 7. Why now? Because I just watched Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie and it is absolutely fantastic. 🧟🔥

> At least I haven't heard anything about them doing layoffs while using genAI Correct. In the same report, they have a projected increase in headcount for end of 2027 quarter 1. If you want to look through it: www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/d...

From their public 2026 financial report which you can find online. I don't think their gen AI usage can be described in terms of what games have used it or not. At the very least, it pervades many aspects of common work responsibilities like meetings, documentation, etc. Make of it what you will 🤔
Graph from Capcom's 2026 financial report which indicates they use generative AI to accelerate routine tasks within the development process which include Research, Draft Generation, User Analysis, Interactive Manuals, Error Checks, Meeting Notes, and more. The graph indicates that generative AI allows them to reduce time spent on these mundane tasks and increases time invested in creative work.

Good news: this is such an easy trade-off to ignore 😀 No matter what art style you name - realistic, fantasy, cartoony, anime, hand drawn, pixel art, low poly, claymation-esque, etc... I can name a game that excels in both art direction and gameplay. Truly spoiled for choice in this day and age!

Frankly, I wouldn't blame you or anybody else if you stayed on both platforms. Any bit of income helps in this rancid economy. I just feel that if you had to choose one platform to leave, it should be YouTube - not Twitch. The platform with an opt-out button seems to be the lesser of two evils.

YouTube has already crossed this line years ago with no equivalent toggle. Their AI text-to-video generator, Veo, is trained on the vast quantities of YouTube hosted content.

Amazon primarily hosts AI models created by other companies. Google is a leading competitor in developing/training their own AI models. This inflection point in Twitch's history has been passed years ago in YouTube. Where do you think Google gets the data to train Veo - their AI Video Generator?

Hot on the wheels of Meccha Chameleon's success to the tune of 15 million+ copies sold... is an AI generated near 1:1 copy releasing in several days. I will not bother naming this slop, please buy Meccha Chameleon and have a blast with your friends. It's an amazing indie game that only costs $5.99😀

Yeah, it just hits. The characters are great and the overall setting is done really well without overloading you with information. Granted, I'm not a super sophisticated book reviewer but it was a really enjoyable time 😋

I finished Dungeon Crawler Carl (book 1) and immediately bought the entire set + graphic novel signed. Perks of being in Washington? You can go to the bookstore that the author Matt Dinniman owns (Invitation Bookstore in Gig Harbor).
10 Dungeon Crawler Carl books on a book shelf, ordered in the correct sequence. 9 of them are the text-based titles and the 10th is the graphic novel. All of them are signed.

They have a statement from Sandfall here: english.elpais.com/culture/2025... They patched it out, but nonetheless, there was a gen AI asset in E33 and it wasn't being disclosed. Regardless, there are popular games with less controversy that could've been used at the top of the graphic.

My mistake (I saw an article about the exact same thing this graphic is illustrating but about reviews instead), but besides the point. Putting Arc Raiders on the bottom makes sense, but putting E33 on the top doesn't imo.
000
LeYe @leye.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
Sure, but I think it defeats the purpose when illustrating a point about AI making games review worse? E33 got a reward revoked for having Gen AI usage. Fans have pointed out a suspicious texture and Sandfall continues to be dodgy and not comment about it. Embark is heavy on gen AI, no question.

Also, while Hades 2 and STS2 are not global phenomenons, they aren't less successful. Hades 2 doubled 1's peak concurrent. STS2 in particular broke all records regarding card-based rogue-likes. Peak player count is a whopping 574k (over 10x previous) and it currently sits in Steam's top 25 charts.
000
LeYe @leye.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
So this is why I asked you to define "successful" lol, you only mentioned profits/expectations initially. But for the purposes of the graphic, do they really need to feature games with E33 levels of popularity? Aside from Silksong, Deltarune exists. Meccha Chameleon just sold 10 million copies.
000
LeYe @leye.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
I think you'll need to define "successful" more clearly here because there's a lot of games that have made profit. If we're defining "successful" to have both made immense profit and grabbed global attention, then Baldur's Gate 3 also comes in mind. But also... Silksong? Hades 2? Slay the spire 2?

While I'm not a fan of Kotaku, this reporting is accurate and I agree with your sentiment. It's why movements like Stop Killing Games are so important. When I got the Kobo at your recommendation, I've resolved to not buy any subscriptions if it can be helped. I will support creators in other ways.

Seeing a lot of mentions of this AI report (LinkedIn, Slack, even here) that says gen AI is increasing the rate of production incidents. Sure, I agree, but barely anyone seems to point out that the creators of the report are literally trying to sell an AI-powered solution to this AI-powered mess.

The company behind Party Animals is based in China. According to Stanford's 2026 Ai index report, China is one of 6 countries with over 80% adoption & trust rate of AI in the workforce. Anti-AI sentiment seems to be, unfortunately, mostly Western. Why? IDK! But it's a disparity worth studying.

Just position better bro
In this first comic panel, a person is sitting in a gaming chair, wearing a green shirt with a yellow triangle and brown shorts. They have a headset on and are holding a game controller. The person is looking at a large TV screen, which is not visible in the image. The person is saying, "This guy keeps killing me!" in a speech bubble. The word "DANG IT!" is written in large, bold red letters above the person's head, they are clearly frustrated. The background is a light yellow color, and the person's hair is black with a red anger marker.
In this second comic panel, two characters are shown. The character on the left, wearing a green shirt with a yellow triangle emblem, looks confused and is holding a controller. A pink question mark appears above their head, indicating confusion. The character on the right, wearing a pink shirt with a yellow star emblem and blue shorts, is holding a controller and wearing a headset. The character on the right says, "Just position better, bro!" A speaker icon is also present, indicating they are both in an online voice call. The background is a gradient of light green and yellow.
In this third comic panel, a character with a bald head, green cat ears headset, and a neck beard is sitting in a red gaming chair, holding an advanced video game controller. The character is wearing a black shirt with a skull design and white socks with red and blue stripes. The character is looking at a flat screen television set. The background shows a window with a crescent moon, a dark sky, and also a dark silhouette of an unknown character. The character is saying, "HEH! This noob is out of position!"
In this fourth comic panel, two characters are shown in a dramatic and somewhat humorous situation. The character on the left, who was the character introduced in the third panel, with a cat ears green headset and a neck beard, looks surprised and slightly scared. The character on the right, introduced in the first panel and present in the second panel, with spiky hair, green shirt with yellow triangles, is holding a glowing master sword letter opener prop like a dagger. He is threatening the bald character for making fun of his positioning in a game. The background is dark with a red hue, and the text at the top reads "AM I NOW?" in a bold, green font with a dripping effect. The dialogue, spoken by the green shirted character, is clearly a response to the previous panels dialogue of "This noob is out of position"

Y'know what's cringe about Deep Learning Super Slop 5 Neural Rendering? There's actually not much of a profit incentive for it. Nvidia is a monopoly and gaming GPUs are an afterthought compared to their data center profits. They're so incredibly out of touch, they genuinely thought we wanted this.

That being said though, while I like the upscaling tech for what it is. Other features in the DLSS suite are more than worthy of criticism. The newly revealed DLSS5 face filter shit is definitely trained on some sort of stolen data. Just garbage feature all around that disrespects artistic intent.

LeYe @leye.bsky.social · 17/03/2026
Hard question to answer, but the fact it can be debated makes it magnitudes more environmentally friendly compared to LLMs. Also, older RTX GPUs can access some newer DLSS versions which helps extend their lifespan, thus slowing e-waste.
100
LeYe @leye.bsky.social · 17/03/2026
Upscaling saves on power IF targeting the same framerate as the purely native equivalent. This is less often true on PCs running games with uncapped framerates, but is definitely true for consoles. Does the energy savings of many devices running DLSS games offset the cost of training DLSS?
100
LeYe @leye.bsky.social · 17/03/2026
The relationship between resolution and power consumption is straightforwardly linear. Upscaling a lower resolution consumes less power because it's essentially making an educated guess based on existing data (the lower resolution native frame). BUT! There are caveats to this.
100
LeYe @leye.bsky.social · 17/03/2026
On the energy consumption front, DLSS is peanuts compared to large LLMs with hundreds of billions of dollars worth of resources thrown at it. I know this seems like nitpicking millions vs billions but it matters b/c DLSS upscaling can actually save on power depending on the scenario
100
LeYe @leye.bsky.social · 17/03/2026
Afaik, Nvidia's DLSS upscaling actually doesn't steal any data at all. It trains on frames taken straight from a game's rendering pipeline which can only be acquired through consenting partnerships. Data scraped from online would degrade the model.
100
LeYe @leye.bsky.social · 17/03/2026
I like the energy here, I just want to help you redirect it. AI upscaling is, surprisingly, fairly innocuous in the grand scheme of things. To be clear, Nvidia's DLSS is a confusing term and is actually a suite of features. I'm mainly going to discuss the upscaling.
