The sauna felt impossibly hot now, the kind of heat that made thoughts slip and blur. Steam curled around the stone walls, turning the room into a hazy dream.

He wiped his face and shifted, trying not to draw attention to himself. That was when he noticed the Roegadyn across from him.

The man was massive—broad shoulders, thick arms resting casually on his knees. Water slid down sculpted muscle, catching the dim light before vanishing into the steam. He looked carved from stone, utterly unbothered by the heat.

The young man swallowed and glanced away. When he looked back, his heart jumped.

Had the Roegadyn moved? Had… something changed?

The heat pressed in harder, making his head swim. His pulse hammered as he stared, then quickly looked down, cheeks burning.

I’m overheating, he told himself. That’s all. I’m seeing things.
