Hey readers, there's been a lot going on in book ban land, so we thought we'd give you a rundown on the book banning process. Head to our blog for a full rundown: www.letutahread.org/how_a_book_i...
Infograph of the book banning process. It starts with a challenge filed, which then goes through a plausibility review, and reviewed by a committee where members consider the text and vote to ban or keep. Appeals can be submitted any time

Thank you to @sltrib.com for reporting on this! The USBE is meeting about this on Thurs. Sept. 3, and we need your help convincing them to hold DSD accountable to their policy!! Email USBE at mailto:publiccomment@schools.utah.gov www.sltrib.com/news/educati...

This Utah school district didn’t talk about ‘Fight Club.’ Now, it could be in trouble with the state.
Davis School District’s decision to uphold a ban of the Chuck Palahniuk novel without discussion likely violated Utah procedure, state officials say.

Small freedom to read win out of Utah today! A few months ago, Let Davis Read appealed Davis School District’s removal of Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk to the Utah State Board of Education (USBE). In short, DSD didn't follow its own rules when it removed this book on appeal.

In Utah, nearly all statewide book bans originate from just 2 school districts, sending novels to the shredder, Tribune finds
Across all Utah public schools, every district copy of each banned book must be destroyed, according to state law.
