In Ferryland Newfoundland, two small boats rest on a dock by a tranquil body of water, with a soft mist obscuring the distant hills. Gentle tones of grey and green blend with the landscape, creating a peaceful and serene atmosphere.

Ferryland is the heart of the Irish Loop, an area of Newfoundland known for its Irish roots, families and also the location where George Calvert better known as Lord Baltimore established the Colony of Avalon in 1621.

One of the earliest permanent European settlements in North America, it is now home to a community of approximately 400, it is picturesque, filled with history, historic ruins, artisans and the warm welcome of Newfoundland. In 1953, the Colony of Avalon site was declared a National Historic Site of Canada.

In #Twillinggate #Newfoundland #Iceberg Alley has seen some amazing bergs. This enormous one was caught on video, just as it calved. Look at the waves from the ice movement and the shifting that takes place afterwards. What a capture.
