The best part of every demon soul boss being so different was that every one of them was broken in a dif way. Sometimes you could just shoot them without getting anywhere near them. Sometimes they couldn't handle you just standing still. sometimes magic just outpaces their regeneration. Funny stuff.

I have 3 copies of it on my hard drive, but every time I play it the ground z-fights itself until the world turns dark. What a shame.

youtu.be/gAY0pvI-cew?... Reminded of how the Arma series tackles this, with complex info broken into chunks that are voiced with runtime sentence mixing. It works for very utilitarian stuff (Enemy-Soldier-North-300 meters), but anything beyond that needs bespoke lines. It also has... mixed results.

Your videos on Atelier got me into the series years back, and now I've played 20 of them. I'm one of the few in my gamedev circle that has, and being able to explain the unique things these games do has been fun and helpful. Nice collection, and thanks for the introduction to the franchise!

Blue Reflection 1s cutscene direction is distressingly leering, going past the normal kind of anime playfulness into feeling legit exploitative. They changed staff for BR2 and that game doesn't have the same feeling of ick that throws things off. Glad to hear that they're removing what they can.

I'm reminded of how mobile FPS games will often autoshoot if your crosshair is over a target long enough. How long it takes varies by gun, stance, scope, ect. I dug that, as it let you stop worrying about the awkward motion of tapping a fire button on a touchscreen, and instead focus on movement.

Everything about FF7 made way more sense to me whenIi learnt that it was made in 10 months by a team that had never worked together before, on machines nobody had used.

eventually. they'll have support in early ue6 but the plan is to replace them with a different programming language in like, two-ish years.

That's alot of good info, thanks. I think I dropped it due to the heavy vfx making it hard to tell wtf was going on in fights, I felt rather disconnected from the consequences of my inputs. My husband was just poking at his 100+hour orochi3 save again, so i might recommend him this game instead.

Do you have expanded thoughts on extella link? I recall it being a major upgrade over the first, and that territory changed hands far more often due to rather active agents on both sides. But i didn't spend enough time with it to get a good idea about how that shapes out in the long run.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK4Z... I will defend the first 2ish minutes of AH. I think it has one of the best openers in games. It tells you exactly what kind of game it is, how to play it, shows off it's selling points, and syncs perfectly to the music. Sadly, you then have to continue playing it.

It's wild cuz one of the people in this video is in charge of Jazzwares, they DO make figures and collectables and alot of merchandise. They're knee deep in actually making stuff. But i guess that's not enough.

Mook ability to actually flinch you was always weird and inconsistent. it had something to do with defense stat, SOmetimes they could, but what caused it was really unclear and rarely ever happened. The only time it was guarenteed was during a charge attack, and in that way, it hasn't changed much.

Reverse Collapse stars a barefoot white girl in the snow with a moison nagant. I literally cannot think of anything more engineered towards appealing to these folks and it still wasn't good enough. (not that it was trying to, reverse collapse is great, but still.)

the same person who implemented the orbs implemented the driving upgrades. It wasn't "done in a weekend" late, i was wrong about that, but it was a late addition. The fact that it feels so integrated is a testament to how good of a job that person did.

Leth Davidson @lethdavidson.bsky.social · 07/04/2026
I double checked, my bad it wasn't "done in a weekend" late, but the orbs were added late into dev as a last minute answer to "how is the player supposed to level up agility?" The same person added the car level-ups i believe. So either way, crackdown spent most of it's dev without ORBS.

Leth Davidson @lethdavidson.bsky.social · 07/04/2026
Learning that the orb collection in crackdown was an extremely last minute addition added in over like a weekend or such is wild.

IMO, 0's high enemy count in levels makes anti ground stuff more interesting, and lets them mix ground/air better than 5. 5 could rarely use large numbers against you the way zero at key moments. I like how the narritive enhances the gameplay alot in 5, but i think 0 is the better airplane game.

7's been considered barely acceptable for most of the history of game reviewing. all of the review sites are built with that as the bare minimum. It was based off of the school grading system of 70% being a C, just above failing. Attempts to use more of the scale have ended up hurting devs sadly.

Umodeler is great, though it's built first as a modeling tool rather than a LD tool. However it can do hotspots, booleon cuts, auto collision, and extrudes that detect collisions for pillars n such. There's a free version, it was my preferred level tool when doing unity.

TBH the answer is probably Yes It Did. This is a proven look to people who greenlight shows and signals to the audience what kind of show it is. Even if the people making the show would prefer a dif style, oftentimes they have to go with this because it helps get stuff greenlit. I do hope it's good.

Though to be clear, it is still fundamentally the same game, and it reuses everything from the first. There's barely any new maps for example. It's just a much more fun and varied take on the idea that makes better use of the EDF crossover idea than the first game did while also doing its own thing.

Leth Davidson @lethdavidson.bsky.social · 18/01/2026
One major change is that in WB1, they mostly kept the enemies you fought in levels matching with the enemies that were in that game. That got kinda old fast, whereas in WB2 they implimented every single enemy that's ever been in an EDF game + extras, and mix them all up. It's far more fun.

Yeah and it was dramatically better than the first. Better missions, far FAR more enemy variety, a plot that actually really sells character drama and has some bizarrely top tier VA, and overall had far more variety in gameplay by giving everyone special abilities ontop of dif weapon loadouts.

I played all of these on the higher difficulties, which might as well permanently put a "you've been locked onto" icon on your HUD. It was immeasurably satisfying in 6 to be able to sick 50ish allies on one guy, watch the Itano circus, and go "MISSILE! MISSILE! HOW DO YOU LIKE IT?? MISSILE!"

Playing 5 again really highlighted that i don't think it's a very good airplane game. Low enemycount, little gameplay mission variety, ground missions go on forever, ect. But the mission theming is so strong that it's easy to overlook it. I didn't feel 6's theming, but yeah it was way more going on.
