Half way there... This is a 2x2x1 unit cell piece. It will look more geometrically robust with the next layers... I am not planning this model to have the typical #Quartz outer shape because I am just learning to connect the tetrahedra, but I am hoping the 2nd model will 🤞🏻

LeSuPer @lesuper.bsky.uy · 03/10/2026

Update: I had to back up with my model cause the complexity of what I had done was not allowing me to figure out how to continue. After exploring a VESTA view of 8 unit cells for ~15 min I figured out a simple relation among lines of tetrahedra, so I already made enough lines and will connect them.

In order to celebrate #Quartz' victory in #MinCup26 a 3D model is in the making (promised during round 1). It gets more complex by the unit and failing one connection will make it glass 😖. At this point very careful steps are being taken so progress is slow. Hopefully I will finish it on Sunday! 🤞🏻

Skutterudite's crystal structure can be transformed to #Perovskite by putting together the pair of atoms inside the cubes. That is why I was sad to have this Match, because this year I am #TeamQuartz

You know me. Skutterudite would be the kind of structure I would personally choose. But #Quartz is so intertwinned with Uruguay in agate and amethyst that I cannot choose other than Quartz. I am days away of fulfilling my promise of making a quartz model with my 3D printed polyhedra...

Sphalerite is also historically important for crystallography since it was a big octahedral ZnS crystal that allowed Max von Laue show without a hint of doubt how X-rays are scattered at precise angles by crystals. A large, easy to allign crystal, helped show 3 and 4-fold rotational symmetry.

This is how you win votes for #Quartz. You invite family for lunch and get them to vote 😉.

Back we are!! For some time, I have been thinking about making a quartz model using my "perovskite" model polihedra... Maybe if we make #quartz reach the top I can put all these tetrahedra to work...

Hi #perovskite lovers. I am back! Backing up #Quartz from day zero for this year's #MinCup. Look how many colorful quartz (and other minerals) present in this pic I took minutes ago at the Costanera in #Asunción #Paraguay where I am visiting!

#Perovskite structure is beautiful. A 3D connected network of corner-sharing octahedra of a small-size metal (Ti4+ white) bonded to oxygen anions (O2- green) with a larger metal filling the voids (Ca2+ yellow ball). As beautiful as useful. Changing elements you get important properties. #MinCup25

The quarter finals of #MinCup25 are starting and the 2nd Match is #Perovskite vs #Tugtupite. This is going to be a tough game and the next few days everything will be defined. #Perovskite Fans, it is time to contact friends & colleagues that already voted in the first & 2nd round and get'em in!

The error is probably related to this: #Mannardite is not in the Game but the looser #Paddlewheelite is. That is why there are no votes counted for Mannardite. I hope it's easy to recover them.

I dare all Calcite fans to try to make a model of their beloved structure that looks as AWESOME as this model of a double #Perovskite I made for @maiawaia (IG). I agree calcite is beautiful, but what a boring carbonate structure... nothing to play with except some impurities that change colour
