Until I think of a more suitable prize, please accept the school badge (those maroon blazers did not flatter anyone)

The School of Archaeology was actually named after Kathleen Kenyon by staff and students on International Women's Day, 2019 BBC News - University of Leicester to honour pioneering female archaeologist - BBC News www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

We organised a Red Ribbon Remembrance walk today around sites connected with the history of HIV in Leicester today and left behind some DIY heritage plaques before lighting a red ribbon of light in Town Hall Square #WorldAIDSDay

I've just realised that it has been three years since I heard that Billy Quiet had died. Billy was part of the Lesbian Avengers' action in 2000 that painted a London bus - because Brian Souter from Stagecoach was campaigning against the repeal of Section 28.
In the foreground, 4 young women and non binary people lean against railings. They are smiling or shouting. Four police officers stand between them and a London bus which has been completely covered in bright pink paint

One of the things I've been enjoying about @mauricejcasey.bsky.social's Hotel Lux is the periodic appearances of Sylvia Pankhurst. As a teenager growing up in Woodford, learning of the existence of Sylvia's anti-aerial bombing monument, 10 minutes' walk away changed my perception of the place

A while back, I imagined us weaving a large red ribbon for World AIDS Day. Thanks to @leicesterliz.bsky.social and @chrisaw.bsky.social for building it and the many others who helped weave the spell

Today, the eve of World AIDS Day, is the 25th anniversary of the death, from an AIDS-related illness, of Simon Nkoli. Simon was a black gay leader in the South African anti-apartheid struggle. He co-organised the first Pride march on the African continent. He was a fierce queen

Today is also the anniversary of my Dad's death in 2009. Another David who profoundly shaped me (giggler and atrocious punner, taunter of Tories, holder of unconventional opinions, explorer of special interest rabbit holes)

I was at a voluntary sector conference today where the keynote spoke in the most paternalistic way about how charities step in to do the state's work and 'save' people, when the state won't. They didn't take questions, but if they had, mine would probably have paraphrased Gustav Landauer

I was supposed to be in Vienna last week for an academic workshop. I didn't go in the end for a variety of reasons (mostly spoons). But the wonderful Xin Pan appreciated my main motivation for visiting Vienna and sent me this and many similar photos of the Hundertwasser Haus
