I take back nothing. Let the world know even this patience-testing monster of a dead meme has more effort crammed into it than anything generated through prompts

I can't remember which game specifically flipped that switch, so I'm going to go in a slightly different direction and select the games that changed me forever at ~13yo. I hope that's OK! Details in alt text
Kirby Super Star! I got this on the Wii's Virtual Console, I can't say I remember why but it must've caught my eye through the "8 games in one!" that it claims to have. I liked that it was easy, that it was cooperative, and that it offered so many ways to flip the Kirby formula on its head, all while moving the series forward. I only had Kirby's Avalanche and Kirby's Dream Course as a younger kid, neither of taught me anything about his simple but flavorful adventures, so getting this made me a Kirby fan forever.

On a side note, I also got Kirby Super Star Ultra for my DS just months after discovering the original! I like that port better for all the new things it introduces, plus the overhauled graphics look gorgeous, but it does sort of lose some of the visual charm that identified the SNES one.Super Metroid! Another fun find. I had developed a hard crush on Samus Aran after extensively researching all of Nintendo's IPs as a teen, and so I got it on the Wii Shop Channel like with the previous game. Now, I wasn't really familiar with Metroidvanias or anything like that, so I spent days at a time losing myself in Zebes's depths, completely bewildered on what to do and feeling like the game was generating endless hallways for me. It's much simpler to me now as an adult, and in fact the maps sometimes feel small to me as a result of how accustomed I've become to its layout, but I'll never forget how fun it was to traverse the game on my first romp and I'll also never understate how good it feels to replay it, because it just is.

After buying Super Metroid, I became a Metroid stan, and though I haven't played all the games and in fact half of them intimidate me too much to want to play them, I'll always be one of Samus's biggest fans. Part of me transitioning might've stemmed from me wanting to be her. Now that I think about it, that happened a lot as a wee boy. OopsEarthBound! The context for me finding EarthBound is different than for the other two, as this never made it to the Wii's Virtual Console. Instead, I found out through either a random YouTube recommendation or through Darrow's comic adaptation of the game, with either's interpretation of Giygas being my first exposure to anything in the EarthBound brand. Fuck, thinking about Giygas would scare me as a teen because whatever emotions he was making me feel, I wasn't ready yet to experience them. Of course, I learned to emulate and I played the game in full in 2013 to the bitter end, only to have horrible nightmares for weeks after I got to the end and failed all while his swirling face filled my monitor...

I make it sound like EarthBound was purely traumatic, which it was, but I have played it multiple times actually and I love all the fun little quirks in this game, whether it's for character or for humor, both of which this game excels in. It's certainly an aged game, a bit primitive these days, but it aged well and there's a lot of joy to derive from any EarthBound journey. I'm actually always pumped when playing the game, but this game ruled atmosphere so well that the final boss still sends me chills. One day I'll write up my thoughts on Giygas lol.Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire! Ruby was originally gifted to my brother, but I presumed the game had multiple save files and hogged up the "first" one. Later learning I unwittingly stole it from him, I bought him Sapphire to make up for it, and that's how my Pokémon journey started.

I chose Torchic and spent an unbelievable amount of time looking for the 8th fucking badge, reaching level 100 as a Blaziken (or at least getting damn close!) by the time I figured out where Team Aqua's last hideout was. I had combed the game of everything it had to offer me up to that point, and my unrivaled inexperience with both Pokémon and standard RPGs meant I made many silly mistakes along the way, so my first playthrough was a bit of a disaster. But damn it, it felt so good to beat the champion and then just spend forever raising everything to become fully evolved, using up way more time than I'm allotted to have these days. No playthrough of Pokémon has ever felt nearly as fun as that first romp, and that was something I couldn't replicate through Platinum and especially not Pokémon White (I did not like that game very much)

Bomberman Act Zero is a really weird and probably bad game but outside the context of Bomberman this design is pretty cool. She should be redrawn living her best life actually and given a name too
if I understand correctly, this is either concept art or final art for the female Bomberman you can play as in Bomberman Act Zero. tall woman in reddish armor with yellow highlights, high heels, and a fucking thong, with some chains here and there and also a giant fucking claw. there appears to be a latex bodysuit beneath the armor. I don't know character design so don't come yelling at me, but because I didn't play Act Zero, feel free to (nicely) correct me in the comments or in qrts
