I think it can be instructive to read really old "visions of the future" and science fiction so that we can see the ways in which it doesn't predict the present,because too many fools think we have an ability now to predict the future (Btw, Leguin would remind you that scifi isn't about the future)

The arts sure are one of the only types of work where people are asked to justify wanting to get paid for doing stuff. Nobody goes up to office workers and accuses them of selling out for trying to get a promotion or something. On the contrary, they get weird about you not trying for that.

one of the biggest pieces of damage i see in the CBT based model of behavior and mental health is the notion that everything can be explained by thoughts. that your emotional reactions necessarily are tied to some incorrect one. in my personal experience, this simply doesn't line up with reality

Time for one of my daily gripes: I hate when people add the word "anymore" to a statement i made that doesn't contain it. "I hate my entire career path and dont enjoy it." "Yeah it sucks when you dont enjoy it anymore" ..I never said I liked it in the past, stop adding thoughts to the sentence.
