Driving that’s too fast, too dangerous and utterly lawless: why do we tolerate this petro-masculinity? | George Monbiot
In towns and in the countryside, I see 4x4s and pick up trucks driven without care or conscience. It’s a Magafication of transport, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

The fossil fuel, and some other vested interests, call the tune, pretty much the world over. A transition away from the neoliberal order will be very painful, but I can't see how it can be avoided. Neither do politicians it is evident.

Lots of insects come in and perish in my conservatory. Pity it was a very scarce Wall butterfly, I had never seen one in my garden

So far this,........ Very little since March. I hear the weather presenters, reminding people that the decent recent rain is not enough. Well when we have been expecting it it's amounted to a few drops.

It is always the same betrayal: the public interest is sacrificed for the sake of immensely wealthy people. And Andy Burnham has already gone and done it. My column on how Burnham needs to defy the ultra-rich if he's not to follow Starmer out of the door. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Andy Burnham has already made a mistake that will cost him his premiership: he lost his nerve over political donations | George Monbiot
Being subservient to the interests of the wealthy now means that his hands are tied, and he will be unable to tackle Britain’s most pressing issues, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Rob Seago @lepimann.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
Around my area of Clacton it appears that disabling exhausts on souped up cars is a thing, and regularly my road on the outskirts of town with a 40 mph limit is a regular race course. As far as I can see they don't get challenged.
