I once received a package on Saturday that I was told they were out of on Friday, on Monday they started tracking it until it mysteriously vanished from the system on Thursday which is why I tell people my bicycle pump has traveled in time.

Let's not be afraid to name names. Amy Acton has spent the last few months making many wonder just how much better than a Republican she really is. I have no doubt she's better, I know where my vote is going, but I'm wondering just how much time we're going to have to waste fighting her.

Curthose was a crusader, so that at least fits. And being part of the First Crusade, the conventions wouldn't have really settled in yet.

I recall hearing that crossed legs indicated crusader status but I have no idea how accurate that is. Of course, most of the examples I've seen were less dynamic than this.

Right. It's hype through fear. "Look how capable our machine is" is the subtext in every one of those stories.

Not so sure the beam would necessarily be any more dangerous than sunlight since the idea seems to be to extend the number of useful hours, not necessarily a massive increase in output during the day.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I saw it too. But not everyone thinks the same way, which is the whole point of the DEI programs the Trumpists are so keen to eliminate.

That was my first thought, but it's space lasers. Presumably orbiting high enough to be out of Earth's shadow and getting direct sunlight. So it's the old powersat idea from SF. Has some real challenges to overcome but is not strictly impossible.

As someone I saw on FB said, this is what happens when there is no minority representation in the room. Whatever message they intended, any black American seeing that is going to notice the unfortunate composition. The very best possible interpretation is tone deafness to an absurd degree. Yuck.

Husted political committee got nearly $500K from a bank he worked for while in office • Ohio Capital Journal
Then-Lt. Gov. Jon Husted said he was joining a bank's board for the experience, not money. It gave his political committee nearly $500,000.

Patterson should have heeded the lesson of Jack Links. Jack Links has some sort of partnership with Mr. Beast where bags of their jerky are rebranded as Mr. Beast Feastables. Same exact product, WAY fewer sales. No matter what we do, we can't get rid of the damn things.

Column | Why we should stop eating lettuce, cyclospora or not
Lettuce makes us sick, wastes resources and has minimal nutritional value. Why are we still consuming it?

There's a local spot that has a $13.95 Badass Burrito on their breakfast menu, but that's a full sized burrito with a side of potatoes and also an exercise in heat tolerance. There are ghost peppers in that damn thing and they didn't come alone.

Which is why I ended up unfollowing a certain old SF writer for his constant screeching about how inevitable AI is and how he's been researching it for decades and we're all horrible Luddites who don't understand it. He utterly fails to understand that LLMs are not the kind of AI he writes about

You don't understand conspiracy thinking, the absence of evidence is evidence the conspiracy is working, not evidence it doesn't exist. The lack of evidence is WHY they'll try to either suspend or "monitor" the elections.

They do that a lot at traffic accidents. Which, you know, could be handled by some sort of "road safety" service that wouldn't need all those enforcement powers.

I thought he built it riffing on Heinlein. He was decently established by the time Redshirts came out. (Note, not serious about the Heinlein riff, though of course nearly everyone who reads OMW ends up making that comparison.) The Scalzi haters are such a weird breed.

That's a thought. Checks cover date, doesn't even get out of the As before budget is well and truly blown. Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 is the real culprit here but the Action and Adventure Comics issues are both over $100 a piece and I'd bet Amazing Spider-Man 17 isn't cheap either.
