Peer-to-peer describes how a network is wired. A co-op describes who owns it. Treat them as rivals, and you hand the field to distributed capitalism: Bitcoin, Bittensor, Helium. Distributed infrastructure, rewards flowing to whoever holds the most. CoCore combines the two: members pool their […]

I spent time in Tuscany and Umbria asking one question in every osteria: where did this come from? Almost always, a place visible from the window. Not luck: 4,327 olive mills, many grower-owned. Cheese from 291 small dairies. 897 protected place names. Co-ops written into the constitution. And […]

Reticulum was never meant to be a Python project. One implementation of a protocol spec is a single point of failure with good branding. Four independent Rust stacks exist: Leviculum, Ratspeak, Beechat, FreeTAKTeam. Why it matters: a native Rust core needs 2 to 5 MB RAM, not 35 to 60 MB for […]

Part three closes the series: what does LoRaWAN need to move a sensor reading that Reticulum and MeshCore don't? Three things, each a cost: a gateway to buy and mount, registration on a network server, and an internet backhaul. Without the backhaul, it hears everything and tells no one […]
