I'll close out Beat Em Upril with my first encounter with the genre: Avengers/Hissatsu Buraiken (Capcom) Like a lot of 80s kids, I was a big fan of martial arts media so finding this game was a revelation. I played this recently on Capcom Arcade Stadium Vol. 2 and it’s not good :/ #retrogaming

Beat Em Upril No. 13 Crime Fighters (Konami) Not highly-regarded but a personal favorite. Loved how the game encouraged you to fight dirty. Kick dudes in the nuts, kick them on the ground, fire a gun, fire a gun at them on the ground - whatever’s necessary to get the riff-raff off the streets.

Beat Em Upril - No. 10 Ninja Gaiden (Arcade) I remember being pretty disappointed when I first saw that the NES version was a completely different game. The flip-throw mechanic is a little tricky but one of the coolest in the genre IMO #ninjagaiden #beatemups #retrogaming

As a longtime fan, I was impressed by how Netflix’s new live-action City Hunter captured the spirit of the original. Ryohei Suzuki was perfect as Ryo, shifting from cool operator to goofy perv in a blink. He even sounded like original VA Akira Kamiya at times. Misato Morita was also great as Kaori.
