He has said for decades that he and all the other rich people should pay much more in taxes, social security, etc. But he worked all his life in business, not doing politics.

They just hit three of the four data centres Yandex has in Russia. Given the current prices of memory and particularly GPUs they need for AI training, the computing hardware will be expensive to replace and may take a while, even if the data centre facilities aren't that big of a deal.

I think that was their point.

Feeding comments between a handful of people to LLMs (not plain M/L) used for moderation while thinking it's crossing the line to generate an image pointing out the perils of AI seems rather arbitrary to me. Neither deprives anyone of their livelihood or affects the ultra rich.

Is your take then that if a fraction of regular commenters on social media abstain from using AI to generate images, that will have a meaningful effect on the AI industry, tech billionaires, or creators that were never going to get hired by regular people to create illustrations for their comments?

leo-k77.bsky.social @leo-k77.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I didn't say anything about plagiarising being okay, only about the tech billionaires not making money with it but losing money.

I don't get particularly annoyed when someone uses AI images reasonably effectively and labelled as AI-generated.

leo-k77.bsky.social @leo-k77.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
The rich are losing hundreds of billions per year on AI inference, so the more you use it while paying nothing or $19.99, the more you bleed them. Many people (me included) have little to no creative visual ability, so a generated image clearly labelled as such is pretty harmless in my view.

A quick search shows that PacifiCorp offers a green power option to all their customers under the brand Blue Sky. joinbluesky.com/about-blue-s... The customers decide whether to pay the 8.5-13% higher price for green power or choose the cheaper fossil option. No company can force them to go green.

How a business is run, currently by Greg Abel as CEO of Berkshire, is separate from how the resulting wealth is distributed. Businesses generally produce what there's demand for and is allowed by regulations. PacifiCorp also ranks high in voluntary green power programs: www.nlr.gov/docs/librari...

I agree the world would be a better place with everyone living comfortably no one becoming ultra rich, even if reasonable wealth ($20M-$100M) could still be accumulated. But it would require the whole world to join, and it would still be very tricky to get the system not to fall apart.

He is leaving his entire stake in Berkshire Hathaway to charitable foundations in his will. That's where essentially his entire net worth has been compounding value for decades, and the longer it keeps doing it, the more valuable it becomes.

Yes, both Robin Hood and Warren Buffett gave everything they hoarded to those who needed it the most. The alternative was to let other rich people take it and keep it for themselves. I agree the world would be a better place with more even wealth distribution, but I don’t see that happening.

leo-k77.bsky.social @leo-k77.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I'd suggest comparing people like Warren Buffett with Robin Hood. R. Hood also “hoarded” riches but only to give them to the poor. Neither he nor Buffett had the option of the hoarding not happening. Their only choice was whether to transfer the wealth from rich people to those who need it.

I think that's true but more a feature of the system. If one talented person doesn't work the system to grow wealth under their control, until giving it and its profits to charity, then someone else will take it. The least bad option is to play the game and give the winnings to those who need them.

In psychology, the term "motivated reasoning" refers to a natural phenomenon where people evaluate facts based on whether they support their existing tribal identity, not based on objective truth. This can seriously twist and skew perception of reality, with raw IQ only providing limited protection.

Where did you get that number? I don't suppose any official numbers are public, but a quick search shows these are old Soviet-era systems, only some dozens of which are estimated to be in working order or modernised.

Their IPOs are just round the corner, and they can't get AI to work much better than it did 1-1.5 years ago, not to speak of making a profit. Some people may accept the excuse that it's just the government holding them back.

Those third world countries that are in the state of “attempting to rise from fascist oppression” probably aren't particularly strong in either area, even if they ultimately resolve those issues.

But there aren't any elderly people among people between 6 months and 18 years old. And if there were, why would the elderly who are at the biggest risk be excluded from vaccinations?
100
leo-k77.bsky.social @leo-k77.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
Wait, we didn't finish the first one you posted. The only ones not having the vaccine recommended in the US were those who are immunocompromised or younger than 6 months. You pointed out that isn't everyone. Is excluding under 6-month-olds and the immunocompromised the standard you're in favour of?
100
leo-k77.bsky.social @leo-k77.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
People younger than 6 months, then?

“Ages 6 months–17 years who are NOT moderately or severely immunocompromised.” and “Age 18[+] years who are NOT moderately or severely immunocompromised” is pretty much everyone. Call it what you want.

So you agree with the scientific community that recommends the current vaccines against the current strain of SARS-CoV-2 only to specific groups, except for the US, where they're recommended for everyone but not required?

leo-k77.bsky.social @leo-k77.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
I've explained directly to you, many times, what evolution has done to the virus to maximise its spread. Vaccines are now also optional and largely not even recommended anymore in the West, except for the US. Did you have a point about this?
100
leo-k77.bsky.social @leo-k77.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
The virus is different from the one spreading in 2020–2022, so it isn't just about what we've “learnt.” However, we have learnt how simply extending the interval between the doses lowers myocarditis risk. It also provides better general protection, which was obvious to some of us already in 2021.
100
leo-k77.bsky.social @leo-k77.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
At the time of the original CDC report from 2021–2022, the interval was only 3–4 weeks. The recommended interval was increased to 8 weeks, which was enough to drop the myocarditis risk significantly, improve the general protective effect, and still fit in one year.
100
leo-k77.bsky.social @leo-k77.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Yet, the vaccine reduced that risk that you want to emphasise, relative to the peers who got infected. Also, in current recommendations, the spacing between the vaccine doses is increased, because it both markedly reduces myocarditis risk and increases protection against the typical COVID symptoms.
