So... what's up with #DarkEnergy? 🤔 I wrote up a summary of the current status of possibly-weirdly-changing dark energy for @perimeterinstitute.bsky.social's shiny new researcher-focused newsletter; you can read the piece here:

720 Ollie xkcd.com/3264/
Comic. [Person with short hair and a skateboard talking to another person, with an image of Person 1 on a skateboard going over a bump with a line with two swirls behind him.] PERSON 1: Something weird I’ve noticed is that if I do a 360 ollie, I land backward. I have to do a 720 to land going forward. [caption] Tony Hawk discovers that he’s a spin-½ fermion.

We exist between the Big Bang and the lead. We are the explosion in the barrel of the universe. We are made of the universe's instability. We are the sulphur trying to study the explosion while it's happening. We are Jack's rage against the dying of the light.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖
A pride flag with every color band represented by a NASA image. White is Earth clouds, pink is aurora, blue is the Sun in a specific wavelength, brown is Jupiter clouds, black is the Hubble deep field, red is the top of sprites, orange is a Mars crater, yellow is the surface of Io, green is a lake with algae, blue is Neptune, and purple is the Crab Nebula in a specific wavelength.

More context on this #Artemis II image: * This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right * The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon: ☀️🌍🚀🌕
A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)

Centimeter Wavelengths xkcd.com/3224/
Comic. Scatter plot graph with y-axis “time spent debugging centimeter-wavelength antennas” and x-axis “Nobel prizes awarded as a result” from points 0 and 1. There is a vertical line of dots at the 0 mark that is more spaced out at the top, and these are all labeled “I.T. people troubleshooting WiFi issues.” At the 1 mark is one dot for Penzias & Wilson.] [caption] I just think the other people working in the field deserve at least a *little* recognition.

You know that thing where the farther something is, the smaller it looks? That doesn’t quite work in an expanding universe. It’s true for a while but after a certain point, more distant things (of the same size) start to look BIGGER because their light has been traveling since the cosmos was small 🙃

Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.
