Working holiday is not just work. It’s important to take time for a treat, in this case a Malmö tradition: a Friday donut from Bageri Leve!
A plate of donuts at a café counter: they are topped with a white chocolate mousse, blueberry jam and a leaf of mint. In front is a label with ingredients and the cost (52 Swedish crowns)

Post your warning sign
A red sign on a tree trunk saying: Danger! The Strid is dangerous and has claimed lives in the past. Please stand well back and beware slippery rocks.

The Viking Age burial site Lindholm Høje on a grey March morning. #StandingStoneSunday
Several small stones placed in ovals, each representing a grave. The graves are very close to one another. The short grass is yellow and the sky is light grey. At the horizon there’s a leafless grey wood.

Time for corrections (hopefully not many). It’s going to be an absolute chonker of a thesis…
A thick pile of printed A4s, with the title and author visible (Parchment: demand and supply in medieval Scandinavia. Lena Strid). A blue pen lies on top of the A4s.

And just a few days later, we found another spindle whorl in the same pit house! This one is slightly larger and more even. Perhaps the first one was made by a child learning the craft? #FindsFriday 🏺

This little spindle whorl saw the daylight again today, after having been in the ground for over 1000 years! #FindsFriday 🏺

For #FontsFriday, the font from Valleberga church, southern Sweden, made in the 1170s by the so-called Tryde master (Tryde being a nearby church with an equally splendid font).
An elaborately chiselled stone font, with a round top (this holds the water for baptism) on a round base. The base has four protruding heads of beasts and human figures. The other carvings show scenes from a medieval legend. There is hardly a fragment of the font that’s not decorated.Close-up of a protruding head: a lion holding a small animal in its mouth.Close-up of another protruding figure - not a head this time but two persons on horses on each side of the corner (yes, the font is round, but you know what I mean) embracing in the middle.

Will a wonky cattle incisor root do?
