Incredible gas for this to land in my feed right after stepping off the plane in Taiwan

Seems like a weirdly hierarchical view on the ideas? we don't actually have to follow the Big Man on anything other than the defensible ideas

but not weird if they practiced funerary sacrifice alongside infant deaths. To my knowledge, there is no evidence of peri-mortem trauma on any infant remains discovered so far

"we aren't but we should" is admittedly a very funny take

Not my circus and all that but - could it be that the federal dems are meant to embody the legitimate alternative to the administration, whereas a city mayor rightfully gets kudos for putting constituents before party?

damn, I really thought Bluesky was going a bit over the top. I can see why you struggle to win people over
A 'rude' warning on the above message

Yeah mate, maybe. It seems like it'll be easier to convince dems in power that trans people deserve rights than to convince the median voter to back a vocal pro-trans candidate right now

Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
yes, that one. Maybe some of the 70 million people voting for him were on board with the Nazi rally, but I'd bet more people never heard about it. Trump said he doesn't know P2025, and some voters believe him. Talarico says he doesn't know about this trans stuff, we hope those voters believe him.

Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
It definitely could for some voters, that's a worry. But the US system is designed for candidates to pivot to the extremes in primaries and to the centre in the general. it's a bit like Trump pretending to not know about project 2025 right before the election, moderating to snag unengaged voters

Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I'm confused, so do you think Dems would make anti-trans policies if elected? given their track record, it seems more reasonable to see the 'moderating' language as a rhetorical pivot rather than a change in policy

Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Completely agree - it's not unlike socialist women supporting Labor unionists in the 20's, despite their clear sexism. then, the clear calculation was that material improvements trump the optics. Do you think it's different now?
000
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
electorally - which, if it leads to a loss, would create many other harms for trans folks and others

Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
who do you think doesn't wish that being objectively correct meant you always won that election?

Mate, we all wish that were true
200
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
It's a fair point, I just don't think it's true that keeping the focus elsewhere or jumping head first into the 'they're transing kids' debate gives Republicans the same ammunition.

Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
I agree - the winning track here is making the campaign about something else. But you can't make every argument all the time, ergo the 1234 above
110
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
For sure it's an option, and some candidates will take the unashamedly pro trans stance (so it'll be a real test). that doesn't really answer where you disagree though - do you think people in swing states don't care about it? or that dems are just as bad so it doesn't matter?
220
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
that makes sense - it just seems like there's already enough negative polarisation on trans issues that 'owning their statements' would be harmful. But that's something exit polls will test
320
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Where do you jump off the argument? 1. One party is always going to be better than the other on trans healthcare 2. being seen to be pro-trans is damaging in swing states 3. silence on these issues meaningfully blunts the attack 4. the race is tight enough for that to matter

Not beating the 'just read theory' allegations

Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
You cite sources *in* an argument. A series of quotes does not a case make. Why did 'in your own words' become 'making shit up'?
100
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
... and nor can you, it seems.

Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
What do you mean by this? is there a cut-off date for discussions?
100
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
trying to be constructive, mate. You may have a good case, but highlighter-on-journal-photocopy won't make it for you
120
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
That's absolutely a modern framing, although if you just tilt it slightly to a rejection of minorities' rights in a non-democratic state (ousting the Sephardim or expelling the Greeks), its clearly the same impulse: We want only the volk to be valued

Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
You've put a fair amount of effort into making this argument - FWIW, quoting a random selections of Marxist essayists (and youtubers?) is less convincing than just directly putting the case for what you believe in your own words.

But could it have happened without the war?
130
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
To claim otherwise, you would have to show an alternate path from the period prior to conflict to the post war context that doesn't involve violence. Can you?
130
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
I really am. Even if you choose to ignore the in-group cohesion from defeating an external aggressor, the post-war cooperation environment could not have taken place without the very physical success of one group and against another.
230
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
Damn, why didn't they just skip the violence part then?
140
Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
The post second World War multi-state cooperation environment was epiphenomenal to the violence of ww2?

There's always the 1, 2 of compulsory voting and proportional representation. The former keeps the median voter tied to the median citizen, and the latter gives fringe parties a legitimate route to representation without relying on activist voting blocs

I think the Balts, famously on receiving end of the baltic crusades, would probably disagree with being labelled crusaders?

if you're saying professionals make better products than hobbyists, no argument from me. I'm just trying to understand why you're saying professionals get more of a chance to revise a product and not jump to the next thing immediately? More feedback?

Neo-Stylitist @lem-sky.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Wouldn't doing it for a living force you to jump to the next product faster? Seems like there's endless chances to revise a hobby product, no ship date.

I'd say you're being a bit proscriptive with the colonial past there, but the actual answer (beaches and beer) wouldn't be super helpful either
