Back at the Aero for a second night in a row! Know nothing about this movie, Walker, so excited to see it and the Q&A afterwards.
A pre-movie slide up on a large theater screen. The image is an old boat, listing and buried half-way with sand on a beach. Various men are on and around the boat, some of them aiming guns at the sea.

I know it’s very hard to get a photo of a dark, glass screen, but here is my 17 Pro after a full year, no screen protector. I dropped the phone maybe 3 times total. The screen is utterly pristine.
A hand holds a cosmic orange iPhone 17 Pro at an angle to the camera. The front glass shows no scratches of any kind.

I’m not sure whether I should applaud Camera Siri for this brazen fiction, or hate it. (The text it found is actually “R2-D2” in Aurebesh, and the mug is indeed a limited edition by Eric Heerspink.) (Siri sends these photo look-ups to Google, so I suppose it’s Google I should be miffed at.)
A screen capture of Siri in the iOS 27 Camera app. The image is a man with a large mug in front of him sitting on a table. The kid has a distressed look, with Star Wars design elements. Siri did a look-up (it uses Google for image look-up), and its conclusion: “The ‘72-73’ mug features a minimalist, retro design reminiscent of early 1970s aesthetics. This style of ceramic mug is often associated with vintage commemorative items or limited-edition releases from that era.”

At least it can sorta tell me why it can't do it. But, really, this is kinda obvious.
My question to the new Siri: “I want Shortcuts to be able to toggle the Sound Check setting in the Music app, but it syas it can't. Why not?”

Siri’s reply: “The Shortcuts app is currently unable to toggle Sound Check because Apple has not exposed this specific system setting as an actionable shortcut. While Shortcuts can control playback functions like playing music or skipping tracks, deeper system settings-including audio normalization features like Sound Check-remain restricted to manual adjustment in the Settings app.”

Oh, wow. Day One on Mac is even worse! There is no Body style at all. Instead, you have to click Clear! I mean, any normal person would think clear would CLEAR AWAY the selected text, right? Especially on the larger formatting menu, which even has an X next to Clear. Fucking miserable.

My Tyler Stout Mondo poster is still most cherished, however. It has pride of place above the movie-watching couch. (This should not imply I have a movie-watching couch, a reading couch, a nookie couch, and a nap couch. Just the one couch. But it's mostly used to watch flicks and shows!)

A new and very exciting acquisition. I have never seen this poster before… and now I have one! That's two rare first-release posters that I’m going to be too scared to trust to a framer. Framers, be better!
Spread out on a table with the wanna-curl-up edges held down by coasters, Blu-rays, and a book, is a first-release Japanese Akira poster from 1988. The iconic Akira black “bomb” sphere rises from a ruined cityscape, which is mostly in shades of aqua. Debris is sucked into a portal in whirling clouds. At the top of the poster is AKIRA in outlined type, with the dim image of Kaneda’s eyes behind goggles. “Akira” appears again in purple text, with the Japanese name in gold brush strokes overlayed. Text below it roughly translates to, “It has already started, and it can not be stopped.”

Now it’s time to finally read my correctly-oriented and re-translated 30th anniversary version of Tekkonkinkreet. I’m on a roll, after all.
A manga book, Tekkonkinkreet, sits on a dark table. The cover has the title in all caps with alternating light-in-dark and dark-over-light type. The author’s name, Taiyo Matsumoto, uses the last T of the title as the first T in his name. The image is a boy in a green T-shirt holding his hands up to his ears. He has a sly smirk on his face, one eye is closed, and has a scar vertically across it. A thick line is painted in black across his face, drooping below each eye. He has short brown hair upon which a set of metal goggles rest. Around his neck is a necklace made of what look like small, orange chili peppers.

Below this, on the bottom 4/5ths of the box is a staged tableau of the various Clue characters. They are placed around an ornate library room, with shelves of books and a huge fire place with marble mantelpiece. Mrs. Peacock in an older, Ms. Marple-looking woman in a skirt suit thing, holding a cane and sitting on a leather lounge chair behind a side table and plant. Miss Scarlet lounges seductively on a wood and red-upholstered divan. The Asian woman has long hair, a black dress, and is smoking a cigarette held in a long holder.Behind her is Colonel Mustard, with white hair and mutton chops, a monocle, a tan suit. He is leaning against the mantelpiece with a finger placed next to his mouth in, perhaps, curiosity. In front of Miss Scarlett in Mr. Green, sitting in a chair and wearing a grey, pinstriped, double-breasted suit. He has a yellow carnation in his lapel and hold a cigar in his slightly-agape mouth, a surprised look on his face. Mrs. White, the maid, is way in the background, looking scared and hiding partially behind some red curtains. FINally, in the foreground holding a book in his hand and his chin in his fingers, sits. Bemused Prof. Plum. His pipe and spectacles impart wisdom, like he’s above the whole thing.

It is important to emphasize that no one should be starting any fires during this difficult time.
On a wall in a stairwell are an elaborate series of large pipes. Attached to the pipes are round, red handles; gauges with needles showing pressure; dangling labels say “TEST & DRAIN” or “CONTROL VALVE.” In front of this mess is a black sign on a stand: “OUT OF SERVICE. Thank you for your understanding.”

Saw this in Cash App Taxes. Just when you think you know everything that's going on, you see this shit. 🙄 I can only assume this is an attempt to avoid inheritance taxes.
An option in Cash App Taxes (and, I assume, all tax apps this year):

"Open a Trump Account

"You want to open a Trump account for an eligible child, and request a $1,000 Pilot Program Contribution for an eligible child. A Trump account is a type of IRA that can be opened for a child's future benefit. Opening the account will enable your children to receive any funds they may be eligible for in the future.”

What color is typically the deafult for highlighter markers? What color do people generally reach for for easy-to-notice highlighting? What color was a default in the digital realm for highlighting digital text? What color is no longer a highlight option in Apple Notes? #EverythingIsBroken

The colors are listed with a sample of the color to the left of each option:

I’m in the first ever Apple Store so that I may replace an AirPod. It’s amazing the history I have here. (It’s actually Apple Store #2, but it opened first.)
A picture taken from the back of Apple Store Glendale Galleria. The usual light wood tables are lined up in the store, flanked by shelves and displays. The overhead lights form an irregular grid above it all.

The new normal for most of my Mac App Store updates: The never-closing circle of progress. #EverythingIsBroken
A blue circle that is not quite completed. This is an app update circle on the Mac App Store.

I guess the good thing about the new Final Cut Pro icon is it will supplant this absolutely miserable current icon, created for MacOS 26. No one who has ever even seen a picture of a clapper/slate would have designed this top-heavy monstrosity.
The Mac OS 26 icon for Final Cut Pro. It has the comically rounded corners indicative of Liquid Glass. The icon depicts a slate (or clapperboard) used in moviemaking, which includes a hinged stick at the top which is brought down to make a "clap" sound. The top clapper part of the slate icon is ridiculously large, looking more like the icon is wearing a hat.
