Have you ever been in Florence, Italy? The cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore has this cool effect when the sun rises it shines on one side of the building while other sides are still in shadow. And there is a small tower that makes a gap where you get this view.

This is not a multi exposure or a photoshop image. When the guillemot comes in from the ocean they come in large groups an all want to land on the few possible landing sites on the cliffs. Yes they do collide sometimes.

4 from Italy You do not have to visit Italy in the summer. The winter is also quite cool. Rain, fog and murmuring starlings are options you might experience if you are lucky.

'Souls Tied' On 02/07/22 , I received a phone call from Nigel Danson who informed me that my image 'Souls Tied' was the overall winner in World Landscape Photographer 2022. A classic image of mine, and one that is deeply personal. Alt text for the story behind this deeply personal image.

Story behind this image: In 2021, a good friend of my wife's sadly passed away. Lynsey, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2015. When diagnosed, she was informed that she would be lucky to see Christmas that same year. However, Lynsey bravely battled the cancer for five and a half years before she passed on 11th April 2021. This image was made on 14th April 2021, the morning of Lynsey's funeral. As soon as I seen the two birds fly into my frame I was immediately reminded of Lynsey and her husband Simon. This is a very poignant and personal image.

On the other side of the fence. This is from a series I have going called memories. As a kid living in the countryside in Norway in the 70s/80s we played outside and did some «exploring». Trying to find exiting stuff … and a small little wood in a field like this? It was like a treasure island.

So for abount a month now it has been snowing and raining on and off. I live by the coastline. Which makes it pretty wet, but it is also quite mild during the winter. That is why it takes a while for the snow to build up in the start of the winter. Sun rises 09:41 and sets 14:37 today.

Interesting and heartwarming - one man from my mother’s family emigrated to the US in the early 1900s. But nothing was ever heard from him afterwards- no trace to be found. I am glad to hear you have been able to verify what happened with your family. 😄

Arctic ternes are one of the species with the longest migrations known. During the european winter they migrate to the antarctic coast for the summer in the southern hemisphere. #birds #birdphotography This is photographed on an island called Halten on the coast of Norway. Google it. Its small.

Some of my most moody photos are taken in the fog, usually in the morning here in Trondheim, Norway. And when the leaves have fallen down and the days are getting short in October and November you get a dark and strange look in photos. #streetphotography

While growing up on the west coast of Norway the common eider was a frequent sight swimming along the coast eating mussels and small crabs. The male is colourful and bright while the female is more camouflaged. #birds #birdphotography.

Two siblings. After a summer with doting parents in Norway the two white-tailed eagles have to survive on their own. They haven’t really understood how to catch fish on their own yet. So hunger and desperation make them quite tolerant of people in a boat #birds #birdphotography

White-tailed eagle diving for a fish. This is one of the largest birds in Europe. It’s also called sea eagle. There are quite a lot of these birds along the coast of Norway. They can have a wingspan up to 2,45m / 8 ft. #birdphotography #photography

Ever been to Venice, Italy? This was an early morning just at daybreak. The first gondolas was being readied for the tourists. A few fragments of mist was still rolling over the canals and the boats were gently rocking with the small waves from the morning traffic on the water. #photography
