y'know, the person i heard it from was also mexican, and reading some other comments it sounds like 'latinx' actually came from south america. i wonder if the maybe awkwardness for some latin americans but not others is due to the differing speeds the various dialects are supposedly spoken at?

i've heard that when aiming for gender-neutral, they prefer to be called 'latines' over the american-english coined 'latinx' due to the latter being weird/frustrating for actual spanish speakers to try to pronounce? grain of salt though, have only heard this from one spanish speaker so may be wrong.
