I just got jumpscared seeing my own fanart in a Youtube video. I was just minding my business, watching a video that talked about OMORI, and when it brought up the trio of The Oldest, The Wisest, and The Favorite, I get jumpscared by this old artwork (from 2021!) of mine:

Fanart from 2021 featuring the OMORI characters Big Yellow Cat, Humphrey the Whale, and Abbi drawn together. They are in front of a blank white background. Abbi's red tentacles seep up from behind the trio.

I fear no Crystron. But that, thing... it scares me... /joke He's back.

Image of a newly announced Yugioh card in Japanese with an English translation available to its right. A header says the card will be out in the OCG December 20th, 2025.

The card's translation is:

"Crystron Halqifibrax Prism

Link-3 | WATER | Machine | Link | Effect

[Summoning material] 2+ monsters, including a Tuner

You can only use the (1) and (2) effects of this card's name once per turn each.

(1) If this card is Link Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 Tuner from your Extra Deck in Defense Position, with a Level lower than or equal to the total Levels of the monsters used as material.

(2) During your opponent's Main or Battle Phase (Quick Effect): You can banish this card you control; Special Summon 3 'Crystron Tokens' (Machine/WATER/Level 1/AtK 0/DEF 0). They cannot be tributed."

The card has 1500 attack points. It's link arrows are down-left, down, and down-right.

Black-and-white digital sketch of Agent 3 as depicted in their initial boss fight during Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion. They are depicted with the feminine long hair inkling hairstyle and an irritated facial expression. They are seating on an undrawn seat with their face resting against their left hand. Their right hand hangs limp posed as though holding an undrawn gun. Their cape flares behind them.

It was difficult to limit my thoughts to such a short text box. There was much more I could say, but I decided to limit it to what I feel was most important about Undertale for me: it and its fandom was my first exposure to LGBTQ+ characters and individuals. This is what I drew for my avatar :D

The recent Master Chef episode reminded me of the decks I've played with the Utopia Double engine. Not necessarily "good," especially now, but when it was, you know opening this garnet is what cost you the game.

Yugioh card "Double or Nothing!", a card frequently played as a one-of garnet (garnet is a Yugioh term for card you play but never want to draw) for an engine (engine is a small group of cards played in a deck) that can allow for defeating the opponent in one attack in decks that may otherwise not typically be able to.

I often forget that Autism, ADHD, Depression, and Anxiety are all disabilities. Well, I've shared the main ingredients of my brain soup. I often season it with Nintendo squids, as displayed below:

Agent 4, wearing her Hero Headphones and Hero Hoodie, taking a photo of herself at the beach. She is holding the camera with both hands.

Behind her is the ocean, and hanging over the horizon are some clouds. In the background, in a small rowboat a little ways away from the shore, are a pair that look to be Agent 3 (known in later games as the Captain) and Agent 8. There are a few clusters of birds in the sky.

[End of Image ID]

Callie from Splatoon in her Octarian outfit (the outfit she wears during phases 1 and 2 of the final boss of Octo Canyon) standing in the dark. She is holding a hand out in front of herself over which hovers a small shape of electricity vaguely resembling the Great Zapfish. The electric shape emits light and illuminates Callie.

[End of Image ID]

Agent 8 and Agent 3 (known in Splatoon 3 as the Captain) posed together. Agent 8 has red tentacles with orange ends in her default hairstyle. Agent 3 has orange tentacles with red ends and scratches in the same hairstyle as the Splatoon 1 inkling girl.

Agent 8's body is turned away from the camera, but she has her head turned towards it. She has a confident smile, and is making a peace sign with one of her hands. Her other arm is locked with Agent 3's arm. She is wearing jeans, a leather jacket, and her Golden Toothpick hairpiece item from Splatoon 2.

Agent 3 faces the camera with a casual smile and is posed as though the photo were taken as they were pulled backwards towards Agent 8. They have an arm locked with Agent 8. Their other hand is holding the brim of their captain hat. They are wearing black shorts with an orange stripe, a purple hoodie, and their captain's hat. The hoodie has a pink string and a blue string, as well as a pink cuff and blue cuff to match the strings. These strings and cuffs are a very similar hue to the pink and blue on a genderfluid pride flag.

Agent 3 has a sanitization scar over their right (our left) eye. The skin is colored teal, and the sclera of the eye is a dark green.

The background is plain white with splats of orange ink and smaller splats of blue ink.

[End of Image ID]

The Compitant Mercenaries! These three are very competent at their job. Who needs a screwdriver if you have a big enough hammer? Or in their case: robotic and hive mind armies, plus a prodigious psychic. #OCs #OC #OriginalCharacters #OriginalCharacter #CompitantMercenaries #Squar #Oddly #Xarax

Three beings, known as the Compitant Mercenaries (pronounced Competent Mercenaries), are in front of a railing. Behind them is a starry space background.

Flying on the left is Squar, a pink, bat-like creature with no eyes, hands, or legs and has gnarly teeth and a crooked smile.

Standing in the middle, leaning against the railing, is Fred Oddly. He is an old man wearing goggles, a lab coat, and black gloves. His shirt is a black turtleneck sweater. He has brown pants. He has wispy, balding gray hair, a thick monobrow, and somewhat of a scowl.

Floating on the right is Xarax. He is a a gray-skinned alien with no mouth, ears, hair, or legs. He has black beady eyes under two ridges where a human would have eyebrows. He is wearing a beige shirt with a darker color for its short, stiff sleeves. His shirt has very pointy shoulders. His arms are long, bent, and skinny. He has four fingers on each hand, and the ends of the fingers have a sort of lump on them. His arms are crossed. His eyebrow ridges indicate an angry expression.

I have circumvented the character limit to provide a longer response. The text is also available in the alt text, if that is easier to read. Bit of a ramble, haha. Anyone reading, feel free to comment with either corrections or your own thoughts on the matter. I want to learn more about this!

Disclaimer: I am not an expert. Also, this is a bit of a stream of consciousness ramble.

-

I think what it comes down to is also ease of interaction. It's easier to read and like/reblog/respond to a single post, like some quip, rather than click through to read a whole thread. Things that are easier to interact with will have more interactions just by that nature, which will give an algorithmic boost that compounds to more interaction.

Then, people making posts in hopes of interaction will continue to emulate what got them interactions in the past, resulting in more posts of that style.

As for your example of the “like this post and I'll answer a question” trend, it again comes down to interaction. Asking for likes or comments, as annoying as it is to see or feels to do, works (at a certain level. There are factors to consider such as how it is asked or for what it is asked or etc). And all OP has to do is answer a question that, as you said, they already know the answer to.
As for why more forum based trends don't usually take-off, to avoid sounding like a broken record, I'll bring up a factor not related to just ease of use: UI.

[Personal tag: Non-art image.]

Typical forum websites will layout such that either all responses are to the original post, even if directed at another user in the thread, or they are bunched up and displayed simultaneously like branches (reddit, this second example is explicitly about reddit). The former method means you can't pick and choose comments, you have to scroll through all of them. As for the latter, you are able to see multiple branches of the conversation at once, which will make it easier for something to catch your eye and, by extension, interaction.

Ignoring the character limit, supposing you ported a reddit thread one-for-one to Bluesky or the ancient world of Twitter, it would not be displayed as cleanly. You would only see the first level of comments, and unless you really wanted to see more of the discussion, you wouldn't have as much need to click through and see the rest of it.

Reddit is able to do this because their display causes individual comments to take up less space. Fonts are smaller, so comments take up less of the screen.

As for how Tumblr differs in its own way, without going into detail because this is already too long a post (haha, whoops…) Tumblr's UI encourages chaining responses on top of other responses.

Anyway, thank you for reading. Please feel free to add your own thoughts, this is a subject I find very interesting and would love to learn more about!

Agent 4 taking a photo of herself at the beach! If only there was a word for such a thing... For self-depicting photographs one may take... Anyway, I wonder who those two in that boat in the background might be? #Splatoon #SplatoonArt #Agent4 #Agent3 #Agent8 #Agent24

Here's another doodle for you humans here on Bluesky: I wanted to try my hand at drawing a city background, so I started a drawing of it. I hid the layers featuring the characters as they're OCs and I'm not quite ready to show then yet. Anyway, this is what I have so far.

Work in progress sketch of an urban, commercial district background.

Featured is a wide sidewalk, a building with a window containing the placeholder note reading "Displays," and another building to the right of a gap between this and the first building. Through the window of this second building, a figure is visible sitting inside.

I needed to draw something so I doodled Agent 4 drinking a soda. Not the best time to post, algorithmically, but oh well, haha. #Splatoon #SplatoonArt #Agent4

Agent 4 drinking a soda while standing in the city. She's wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans. Her soda is in a purple cup and has a red straw and white lid.
