Nearly 1 in 3 California adults has a record that shows up on background checks. We’re co-sponsoring AB 2095 (Fair Chance Improvement Act) to close the gaps in the original law that was passed in 2017.

Hairstyles connected to your race are protected by law in California. The CROWN Act makes clear that race discrimination includes natural hair texture and protective styles like braids, twists, and locs. Employers can’t force workers to change their hair.

When the Palisades and Eaton fires devastated Southern California, nearly 1,000 incarcerated firefighters were on the front lines. 🧑‍🚒 They face higher injury rates and dangerous smoke exposure, and have historically been paid far less than other firefighters for the same life-threatening work.
