Cocoa doesn't seem very happy about being at the vet. #DogsOfMastodon

Black dog with white markings sitting on a chair in front of a large window, looking with a worried expression at something to the left of the camera.

Dog now looking out the window wishing she was a million miles away from the vet's waiting room.

I know eclipses are all the rage right now, but consider the quiet elegance of a dog toy syzygy. There. I finally used it in a sentence. Now it's mine forever. (Not really #DogsOfMastodon or #astronomy.)

Three dog toys in a row across a backyard, near to far.

Pictured are Backyard 1, Backyard 2, and Backyard 36. Backyard 3 through 35 are out of frame.

We came back from a week-long trip to find our newest orchid, a Platystele Beatricis, getting ready to pop out some blooms. We got this little guy in the mail on June 4 and it seems to have acclimated quickly in our grow tent. The vendor was Tarzane Group of North […] [Original post on mas.to]

A Platystele Beatricis mounted on a wood (cork?) backing. The mount is only 2.5" x 1.5" and a banana over three times its length is lying on the table next to it.

A closeup of the orchid. It's mounted in the middle of a cork rectangle. Sphagnum moss, tied down with four evenly spaced horizontal strands of thin, black cord, take up the bottom half of the mount. A Roosevelt dime sits on the moss showing how tiny this orchid is.
The orchid has about two dozen leaves varying in size from a couple millimeters to a little over the width of the dime.
Five delicate stalks radiate in all different directions. Each one has a tight cluster of unopened flowers at the end of it.

I finally added mesh walls to all three sides of my #Vivosun #GrowTent. The #orchids seem very happy now. Many sprouts appearing and one flower stalk in bloom and another on the way.

Image of the inside of a grow tent. It includes the back and right walls. Each wall is covered by a wire mesh made from a rectangle of galvanized garden fence. Multiple orchids, mounted on squares of tree fern, hang like portraits on the mesh walls.
Also visible in the image are LED lights and a ducted circulation fan at the top, and a humidifier at the bottom.

Cocoa got a new floral collar today. She's going to see her trainer for the first time tomorrow. #DogsOfMastodon

A young, mostly black dog at a window, some white on her nose, has interrupted her squirrel watch to look inquiringly over her right shoulder toward the camera. She has a new collar, white with pink flowers. She is a Good Grrl.

Our dog silently staring a hole through a #squirrel. Squirrel spent a lot of time fooling with a net dome over some lilies of the valley. Turned out there was a juicy, ripe wild strawberry just inside the netting. Me too, squirrel. Me too.
