"Pick-a-flick" in the little strip mall in Winnipeg. Went there every couple of days in the late 80s and thru the 90s. Found the oddest VHS titles mixed in with blockbusters - they also sold shareware on floppies

found a seller on discogs with a sealed copy of Scarlet's 2nd CD Chemistry for dirt cheap, so ordered it and added this rare Japan Huey Lewis comp - don't let the cover fool you, it has hard to find 12" mixes and rare live cuts on CD

#cdfriday find of the day - I didn't own Genesis Seconds Out on CD and found a mint original 1987 release in a good ol' fat box

another step closer to finding all the original masters of Alan Parsons Project CDs - I was looking for a Canadian edition of Ammonia Ave but someone on discogs had an even cheaper mint Japan 1988 - happy #cdfriday!

My wife & I saw Tanya solo 2002 - my wife wanted to tell her how much her music meant but super nervous. Tanya was so gracious & friendly, made her feel seen & stopped another loud dude from interrupting "I'm talking to her right now, you'll have to wait" Happy 60th 🙏 @tanyadonelly.bsky.social

Ironic in light of the AI Watchdog database of songs used for AI training - my dsp Routenote sent me this email today. It was 'email to opt-out' within 14 days. I said hellz no and meta could devour feculence. cc. @dadadrummer.bsky.social

We’re getting in touch because Meta has approached RouteNote about a new licensing opportunity to develop and improve its AI-powered technologies, and your music has been included in a very selective list of tracks they are interested in licensing.

This would be a one-off licensing deal, with a one-off payment. The licence would last for 2 years and is completely non-exclusive.

If the deal goes ahead, RouteNote will pay 50% of the licence fees directly to the artists included in the agreement. If the deal proceeds, we'll share details of the payment calculation before distribution.

So turns out 386 songs of mine are in AI modeled datasets - all of which were scraped from the tracks I had @ Free Music Archive (or when they got mirrored on archive. org) which were removed in 2020 Nothing that I released on my bandcamp or streaming in the last 6 years is in there tho

At this year's music Pedagogy into Practice conference at UBC, I attended a keynote address on the subject of integrating AI into music education, from José Antonio Bowen. It was the most disappointed I have ever been during a keynote talk. At times, it was stomach-churning. Thread:
