I think your gear is doing really well. With my current kit (longest focal length with EF 100-400 + 1.4x) I can get the moon to only a maximum of ~1540 pixels across when using an APS-C M6M2, and my result is nowhere near as sharp as yours.

Sounds like my orange cat, who turned into a little demon every time he had to be seen by the vet and who was nearly impossible to handle even with thick elbow length gloves. At home he was the sweetest though; one of his favourite spots was my lap.

This is also extremely misleading, as the distance cycled by inhabitants likely very strongly correlates with this data.

I agree, the term is greatly misused. It should only be used for those cases where it just comes naturally to a child (a 5 year old playing the piano, a mathematics prodigy, etc). But it is sadly far too ingrained in the vernacular. Most what is mislabelled as talent is actually hard earned skills.

I was keen to look every day, but progress was very slow as it took them years to build. I think they used volunteers under some kind of on the job learning approach; not sure, and progress stalled during winters. It was nowhere near ready last time I saw it myself.

As I headed to bed late I finally spotted a rare and pretty atmospheric phenomenon, and I took a quick walk to get a clearer view of the sky. Here are some distant noctilucent clouds I managed to snap before they faded away. R6M2, handheld ISO 25600. #Photography #NoctilucentClouds
Some rare noctilucent clouds (high altitude ice crystals lit by the sun) are visible over the trees in the early morning sky glow.

Here at Denmark's latitude the sky doesn't get fully dark at night, and actual sunrise is still about two hours away. Some rare noctilucent clouds (high altitude ice crystals lit by the sun) are visible over the trees in the early morning sky glow.

Back in the day I got a real life timelapse of it being built: every day the bus taking us to school whizzed past the wharf where they were building it. No longer went to that school before it was completed and launched though.

While they were feeding the polar bears for us to photograph at #SkandinaviskDyrepark, Red Kites (Milvus milvus) showed up and sometimes got fairly close to us. I often see raptors fly near where I live; not that close I can identify them though. #Photography #NaturePhotography #Birds #Raptors
A red kite (milvus milvus) with its wings spread as it is floating on the air; it is looking to steal some scraps of food from the polar bears that are being fed.

Shot from directly underneath against a pale blue sky at 400mm on a full frame camera.

Having these birds fly overhead like this and drifting on the air it is clear where they got their English name from.Red kite (milvus milvus) as seen from the side against an almost milky white sky, still slightly lit by the sun (picture has been boosted quite a bit as the weather was not great).

The red kites were coming in low to try and steal food from the polar bears that were being fed for us to take pictures of.

Yesterday there was a #Photography event in #SkandinaviskDyrepark (nearby for me in Denmark). Here some shots of the eagles: they aren't allowed to have European Sea Eagles by law, so they have "representative" Steller's Sea Eagles instead. Amazing creatures! #NaturePhotography #Birds #Raptors
A Steller's Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus) perched atop a dead tree trunk. The eagle is looking left out of frame.

The eagle's head, body and parts of the wings are covered in brown feathers, with white feathers on the shoulders, legs and tail. The sharp beak and talons are a vivid yellow-orange colour.

#SkandinaviskDyrepark has two male eagles, named Dumbledore and Gandalf. They are not part of any breeding program. Their aviary measures 60x60x12 metres where they can fly at will, and they aren't trained or handled by people.

Not long ago got a 100-400 and 1.4x extender off MPB. Was disappointed how little it did for zooming to the moon on my R6M2. I ended up doing a quick camera sensor comparison while waiting for a dark sky. In short: don't use full frame sensors for astro if you like zooming in. :) #astrophotography
Ignore any differences in the shade of the moon, this is about size.

The same 30th March 2026 full moon shot on 3 different cameras (2x APS-C, 1x Full Frame) without scaling the moon, which is kept at 1:1 pixels. It becomes pretty clear that full frame gives only 20% of the vertical pixels with this 560mm, while APS-C gives you 33%.

Not as clear (but hopefully this picture shows that) is how many more effective pixels a smaller sensor gives you when comparing an ancient 7D to a much newer R6M2.

Not represented here is the light gathering and noise performance in which the R6 would win, the M6 gets a solid second spot, and the 7D is far behind. That doesn't matter for moonshots however, and the M6M2/90D is pretty good for astro.Crop version of the other image, without the descriptions.

Oh, that might be what I cycled past yesterday here in Denmark, an area of woodland with lots of white flowers on the floor but I had no idea what they are. It was all sunlit and very pretty. It was in a poor spot to stop for a picture though and I didn't have the time to either.

My first decent #astrophotography image. Soul Nebula, Heart Nebula and Fish Nebula in visible light under a Bortle 4 sky, likely one of the last chances of an image until September as dark nights return then. Took effort to learn how to target on a dumb star tracker! More details in the alt text.
Soul Nebula (IC 1848 / SH 2-199 / LBN 667), Heart Nebula (IC 1805 / SH 2-190 / LBN 654) and Fish Nebula (IC 1795 / LBN 645). Approximately 3 hours of 30 seconds visible light exposures under a Bortle 4 sky. Canon M6M2 + EF 70-200 2.8L IS USM at f/4 + Star Adventurer 2i tracker driven by a mini-PC with N.I.N.A. for capture automation and plate solving to make it possible to target anything deep sky at all with this rather basic setup. I love this, you can see in an instant why their beak is shaped the way it is. I've observed the same with my dog: the front of his mouth is angled perfectly so his nostrils can practically touch the ground without his mouth getting in the way.

I suspect he doesn't actually care about the end result of the oil much. Putting his foot on the necks of people, trying to show the planet what he can get away with is likely way more important to him. (And I'd agree that makes a far more convincing point than a few 'barrels' of oil ever could).

Also, you can very well have just batteries without solar panels, so only ever having them charge from the grid. But whether any of this would help depends on your location, roof orientation, your electricity tariffs, and your consumption needs. You'd need an installer to help with that. 4/4
010 1
Lianna @leeft.eu · 07/01/2026
To make good use of panels without battery storage you'd have to match your power consumption to the power that is generated. Instead and ideally you'd store any generated power in batteries first and foremost. Plus using cheap nightly rates to top up the batteries from the grid when needed. 3/4
110 1
Lianna @leeft.eu · 07/01/2026
How much power depends a lot on latitude. Here at 56.3N with about 5.5kW max of panels: Aug 23.1kWh/day, Nov 2.6kWh/day, Dec 0.99kWh/day. Still adds up to ~5.2MW per year. Right now the sun barely broaches the tree lined horizon while this roof is not ideally oriented for solar either. 2/4
110 1
Lianna @leeft.eu · 07/01/2026
As someone else already said, you don't charge panels. You can charge batteries if you have those; directly use the power; or sell back what is not used to the grid (at peanuts rates). But yes, solar panels do still generate power even when the sun isn't directly shining on them. 1/4

You might've missed that newer digital cameras like the mirrorless ones usually have inbuilt image stabilisation? That, plus in-lens image stabilisation on some gets you quite a bit of handheld shooting for free. (Not really tested it myself though).

Well, I think 28 is too narrow on crop sensors. About okay on full frame. I've not used Tamron, but I've had a Sigma 28-200, which if I recall correctly also suffered from lots of focus hunting, and I can stand that less than having to focus manually. (Manual only with a focus prism or live view).

Not exactly what he said: an initial invasion would with little doubt be successful by the US. But they and their equipment is unlikely to last due to the climate involved. Unlike the Nordic countries' armies, who are very well acclimatised to this and who help train other armies in such warfare.
