I've been trying out a new, alternate(?) look lately. I'm not swapping or anything, but I'll probably mix it up every now and then just for the sake of it. It's an easy excuse to play with new settings and mods and whatnot I might not use on my main appearance.

Depends heavily on the framing, pose/angle, and concept. There are just some things that won't work when you have a giant schlong hogging the frame, as well as some better conveyed with one. Otherwise, in a vacuum I'd say realistic/smaller.

My sentiment was more about like... if you wanna make a character a little outside the bounds of John Helion the queen worshipper vs Jim Lost sad his queen died, it's unclear exactly where that line is or how their society would handle fringe cases.

There's zero need to worry about the race-related defaults, you can give a Helion (game race) a Lost name and have it be 100% lore accurate or vice versa. Like 75% of the Hrothgar in Bozja have ""mismatched"" last names to their game-race, they're just colors.

This is also entirely Bozja-oriented. You can be completely divorced from this way of life (ie Turali Hrothgar) and take on local naming schemes instead.

The moment you stray outside of the specific lore we do have it starts getting a bit more murky. It's unclear if the Helion name is reserved for Hrothgar in active service to a queen or how far away you're allowed to be (in terms of loyalty) you're allowed to be before you're considered Lost.

Uros @leatheruptime.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Exactly. I believe the game even notes that the divide in races is just an Eorzean scholar thing. For a fun fact, Hrothgar are the only race in the game to have no subrace stat variance as a nod to this. That being said, we don't have as much insight as to how the rules can be "broken" so...

Uros @leatheruptime.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

In theory a Hrothgar can go through multiple names throughout his life. To my knowledge there's no clear lore on exactly what the process is shifting from Helion to Lost is, nor what level of devotion/service is implied by being a Helion (or if it's simply lineage, etc).

One small lore quirk that I haven't seen people touch on, but the "Lost/Helion" split is entirely social. All "Lost" (as in the race picked on character creation) are not mandated to have a "Lost" name nor are Helions mandated to have a Helion name, it's just their social status.
