More foot problems for #Lucy We must never forget foot problems in zoos is a real killer of elephants. @andrewknack.bsky.social it would be nice if you can support #Lucys relocation to sanctuary as part of your mayoral campaign. @climateinstitute.bsky.social this climate mitigator needs sanctuary

Can you explain how this can ever be justified @theglobeandmail.com @edmontonjournal.com @cityofedmonton.bsky.social Having total control over an elephants bodily functions is not autonomy. You should be truly ashamed & investigate why this is happening. Better still free Lucy to sanctuary.

1/ Tabling Event at a dance competition (don’t have to 💃) LEAP has a table reserved at the blow event; this is another good opportunity for locals to step in to advocate for Lucy. Needed Volunteers for a four hour shift (anytime between 3:00 & 11:00) to be at the LEAP table.

The current temperature is -33C. It has been very cold for the past few weeks. So Lucy is stuck in that dismal barn 24/7. Elephants are not indoor animals. Poor Lucy 😭 #RetireLucy #CaptivityKills #SanctuaryHeals #yegzoo #yegcc

We need to demand that the next leader of the Liberal Party commits to enforcing laws meant to protect Lucy & ensures Lucy gets the care she desperately needs. 🙏 📧 the candidates in pic & ask: Will you commit to enforcing existing laws to ensure Lucy is sent to a sanctuary 👇

Gary Dewar is notorious for throwing out sound bites in the media that initially appease Edmontonians, but rarely are they followed through with. Write to Gary at gary.dewar@edmonton.ca and ask him where that therapeutic pool for Lucy is ⁉️

Severe winter weather conditions for areas northeast and south of Edmonton are impacting travel. Heavy snow and strong winds are causing dangerous driving conditions with zero visibility. Area highways and roads may be closed without notice. Please think of poor #Lucy 😢 @amarjeetsohiyeg.bsky.social

2025 LEAP has its 10th Anniversary. When we started this grassroots organization, we didn’t think we’d still be fighting for Lucy to go to sanctuary 10 years later! We’ve had our hopes raised up and dashed down. We’ve had admins, organizations, followers and supporters come and go over those past 10

Feels like -13 in #Edmonton today and once again #Lucy has a long freezing winter ahead of her. Her new report says she’s really well and healthy for an older elephant. But once again come the excuses. As Edmonton Tax Payers we ask #CityOfEdmonton to stop wasting our $ and get #Lucy to sanctuary.

Confinement indoors can also be a significant factor to foot problems for #Lucy (through extended exposure to unnatural substrates), circulatory issues and obesity. Cold temperatures also exacerbate arthritis and may be contributing to Lucy's undiagnosed respiratory condition. #RetireLucy

Lucy in Edmonton Valley Zoo is the northernmost elephant in North America. The cold climate in Edmonton is harmful to Lucy & is contributing to her zoo induced conditions. Lucy is forced to stay indoors for prolonged periods of time due to low & freezing temperatures.

#Lucy's enclosure is tiny and barren. It lacks anything resembling an elephant's natural habitat. It is less than a half acre which is not enough space to allow her adequate exercise. There are only painted trees in her concrete enclosure, Lucy has never had a place to swim or to have a mud bath.

Info: In 2007, Lucy’s companion Samantha, after 18 years of bonding, was sent away on a long-term breeding loan and has never returned. Lucy has remained alone ever since. #RetireLucy #SanctuaryHeals 💜

In 1989, in lieu of Lucy having a calf, Samantha, a 1 year old female African 🐘, captured in Zimbabwe, was brought in for Lucy to mother. They are different species but small zoos at the time liked to have one of each species, even though their behaviour and temperaments are totally different.
