It seems like Exec Producer is the new word for “writer” from what I can make out a lot is the time.

Lets be fair - ST has always had crazy shit like the Robinhood or Spock’s Brain episodes. It’s always been quirky - nostalgia has just made people remember only the dramatic stuff.

I get it. But I couldn’t help myself. Coz every time I started getting all analytical they’d throw a one-liner or fire-breathing dragon at me and I went with the ride 😀 Next ep looks more sci-fi. Hope you enjoy

I was at first but now I’ve read a Boltzmann Brain (Pike-Mbenga mention this at the start as the explanation) is actually a “thing” I’m more forgiving. Tbf there were a couple of other errors but the performances and effects were so good I just decided to ran with it as I was having so much fun

I’ve enjoyed almost all the episodes 3-5 didn’t blow me away but the rest have been solid or excellent (I’m also ok with genre pivots)

It was fun tho. And also it’s turns out a Boltzmann brain (spontaneous consciousness) is actually a genuine scientific theory.

In that case I’d space them out personally. I laughed a lot but I think the tone of 10 may be heavier/tense. Depends a bit on you tho I guess and if you’re okay with big tonal shifts.

Watch it if you mean you’ve already watched upto 408 as I think it’ll be tonal whiplash otherwise (personally I loved 409, but it’s a fairy tale …kind of) BUT if you haven’t watched any of S4 yet - then definitely space them out. It’s not geared to binge watch this season

Did you watch episode 7 or skip it? No phoning in at all. seriously good acting - and that level of vulnerability took courage. Plus some fantastic comedic chops throughout. Comedy is hard!

And because of the writers and actors strike they went straight into season 4 without any audience reaction to season 3 and the push back against genre. I’m actually personally ok for it and I think the soap opera episode in particular is a gem that’s being unfairly judged due to genre-fatigue.

Disagree. Think he’s terrific. Just underused

The actress (Batel) was originally only cast for one episode and it wasn’t till the end of the season they decided to make her a regular. Also I had the sense it was a very casual relationship throughout season 1. Only talked about love in season 2. So I don’t think he cheated. My take anyhow .

Didn’t love it. But watched it all. Really liked S3 until the last two episodes when they killed off my fave character and dropped a really interesting villain for more Borg. Loved TNG and Borg then but here they seemed to lay on the Nostalgia too thick for me.

Mount is defo anti MAGA. He’s got flak from them multiple times. Stood firm on Jan 6 etc

SNW S3 is more patchy and suffered from the writer’s strike I believe. BUT there are still 4-5 excellent episodes in the mix - one or two of which are up there in the top 5 or so of the whole series - and only 1-2 duds imho. Still strongly looking forward to S4

Also - I found the switching of the characters, and the intro of Christoph Walz so muddled it just over complicated things. Several other things felt unclear. I can’t put my finger on it but I Shelly’s morality tale somehow got bypassed with this balance.

Lemme try be creative in a public forum to respect those who’ve not seen it. By making William an adult rather than kid you lose the impact of killing an innocent kid, ditto Victor’s wife. So the danger of the creature, his rage + vengeance is reduced & much of the menace & lesson is reduced

I dunno LA Confidential well enough but trust your judgement. Here yes the father bit worked. But I felt the forest family betrayal was so muted & the killing by the creature of an innocent was entirely lost in the switch of characters & the purpose of Waltz’s character baffled to me

Vicktor’s relationship with his Dad I felt worked and had a logic and interested me. Completely altering the nature of the relationships with 3 other main characters in Victor’s life I felt actual reduced the power of the story & seemed very confused (sorry - trying to stay spoiler free here 😁)

Fair point. However I’m not certain the spirit survived in this case. I’m not a stickler for “orthodoxy” but here there seemed to be several choices that were just strange and I felt confused the story for no added value (one or two choices did work tho)

To be fair it’s a while since i read the book. I do recall the creature is immensely strong but other characteristics depicted (trying to stay spoiler free) weren’t as I recall for sure 😀

It looks amazing but I adore the book and felt it made a LOT of unnecessary changes to the plot for no additional value (in fact some made no sense to me) so I found it hugely frustrating. But there was a lot to like too.

There is Chief Kyle in SNW season 1 (but granted not many! Or maybe they just don’t exist on the bridge??) ….But you’ll find Red and Blue shirts in later eps and seasons of SNW

Easy - Pike’s fate in Through the Valley of the Shadows. Set us on a path to SNW. Disco was ok I just prefer my Trek episodic, more ensemble and optimistic (though it improved on that)

I’d go Ring of Fire in position 3 I think. Rest I agree. Though might re listen to this latest one and it could displace Asylum

I think Strange New Worlds has done a pretty decent job and S3 suffered from writer and actor strike disruption. But would’ve been more balanced with even 12 rather than just the 10 Paramount could afford. Shoulda stuck with steaming via Netflix and we could’ve had the 13-15 episodes Disco got.

It’s quite the most terrifying film I’ve seen in ages. I’m a bit allergic to horror!! But it’s stayed with me and is excellent. Deserves a wide audience

Episode 4 is excellent if you want to hang in there. Personally I love it (also fan since TOS and pre TNG) and Pike is now my fave Captain. But we all like different things.

Can’t find common ground I meant. That’s another thing. We really need to be able to edit posts. Helps avoid confusion and allows people to reflect rather than just react.

leafawn.bsky.social @leafawn.bsky.social · 17/10/2025
Some might. Not all. It doesn’t have to be that way. Everyone’s so polarised and thanks to social media we never actually speak with each other anymore face to face and get so entrenched and find common ground. Centre and left need to unite or we’re stuck with the rabid right.

Seriously? This crew have been attacked, killed by Gorn and have less knowledge of the Gorn than Kirk does later. Even in Arena the Gorn kill starfleet at the start of the episode. Plus have you watched Terrarium? Which shows a different side. There’s a continuum here I think you’re overlooking.

100% I’m not saying that. I’m a trans ally. All I’m saying there seems to be a growing societal push to force people to the extremes and decry anything that’s centrist. And I’m not sure decrying centrism is a good thing. Free speech so long as it doesn’t descend into hate speech is a good thing imho

leafawn.bsky.social @leafawn.bsky.social · 01/10/2025
I do however find the equating of centrism, moderation and tolerance of real diversity as so negative as itself being ideological. We’re all being pushed (by algorithms) into extreme boxes. That’s not great either

He’s defo not MAGA. Nor did he defend Kirk (he explicitly said he didn’t agree with him). On Israel yes early on he denied Genocide but I have friends who’ve gone on a journey from feeling to criticise Israel was anti-Semitic. Polarisation is crazy when centrists become the enemy & no-one can grow.

I get the criticism of SNW being heteronormative, but I read What is Starfleet? as asking important questions about documentary bias broadly, read it as metaphor against child soldiers & think if we welcome all diversity we need to be inclusive of unbigotted faith believers & fair on that front too

How is he a moral infant for saying anyone condoning murder is a bad thing? Even if the victim was a vile person? He’s also critical of far right presenters weaponising this. Standing up to Nazism however is impt of course but Mount is only saying don’t dance on graves.

I actually rate 5 season 3 episodes v highly. I think others suffered badly from hiccups arising from the writers strike. Other series made under the same conditions have also been hit and miss (eg Last of Us S2)!

I don’t get why Mount is getting so much flak here? All he’s saying is praising murder is a bad thing. He flat out says he didn’t like Kirk’s views. How is this so terrible? 🤔

Really enjoyed Star Trek Strange New Worlds season 3. I think heightened expectations and the current polarised political environment mean it’s being harshly judged. Several terrific episodes and the finale while not my favourite had a 15 minute sequence reminiscent of Pixar’s Up with emotional heft
