v grateful someone else took the time & effort to articulate this this was all true long before the photo w/Scurrl came out (which I feel pr confident the author would agree w/based on what they wrote), but god forbid you said so around AEW fans before it did

And our main character is a Democrat supporting, emotionally sensitive, queer ally directly opposed to the fascist aestheticized Cody Rhodes!”

If you’ve been on wrestling Twitter or any wrestling social media you’ll have seen arguments like these a million times at this point. They’re probably best summarized in this now incredibly darkly ironic video edit.

Of course if you are a grown adult with a fully formed personality you, like me, probably think this is absolute guff. After all AEW was started by a billionaire, is part owned by one of the biggest media conglomerates in the world and that said media conglomerate is currently on the verge of being bought out by a MAGA oligarch for the express purpose of right-wing propaganda. With that in mind at best AEW is the equivalent of a Che Guevara T-Shirt bought at ZARA, a capitalist enterprise selling a watered down and ultimately harmless version of left-wing politics back to the left-wing public.

They were funny, respected, well-loved activists. They were rightfully scared about what COVID could do to them. They were “the vulnerable”—chronically ill Black women who needed $$ for healthcare costs—the government wanted, and wants, us to find acceptable to abandon. They knew what was happening.
