Something to consider. The disabled list opens when pitchers and catchers report. That will allow us to move players to the 60-day IL. That removes them from the 40 man roster. With how we prioritize depth, and how close that day is, you could 100% see this as a part of the #Braves strategy

Historical question. Looking back at the past few FA classes, should we have projected the “need” for a starter sooner? I know it’s revisionist history. But if we extended Fried or Dansby, don’t we reduce a lot of the “needs” we had going into this offseason? What deal do you wish we’d have done?

If you are looking at guys that got caught in yesterday’s roster crunch across MLB, would our 40-man not be stronger with JJ Bleday and Ramon Urias on it? If it’s about depth, that seems like we could upgrade here

It did seem like a high portion of players, even if selected, got returned last year. Is a trend developing? As scouting and player development continues to be “currency” and more resources are allocated, maybe less outliers for Rule 5 shocks will emerge. Hence making the roster spot more valuable?

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 19/11/2025
The trend last year seemed to be low for Rule 5 guys who “stuck” all year: On average, ~45% overall (2020–2024 combined “stuck” (weighted by number of picks), with year-to-year variation — e.g., 2023 looked unusually good (~73% stuck), while 2024 looked low (~33%) Maybe that’s the Braves bet?

When we talk about Ha-Seong Kim,we miss the point. How many SS have gone off the board, including Dansby, to get painted into this corner? I will give AA the Arcia AS year, but are we going to end up giving Kim $20m when we could have given Dansby $23 to stay? This discussion isn’t talked about enough

I guess I’m clairvoyant! Time for you to go a little deeper in the pitching metrics :) hahahaha

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 24/09/2025
Love it. I guess it depends on if they see something, but overall, I’m all for guys that have had high level success versus banking on guys like Bryan De La Cruz. If they fit into arb and control window where you can take a flier, I’m all for it. And if they show promise, maybe they stick for depth
000
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 24/09/2025
So along those same lines, and seeing the controlability. Alex Manoah, sign me up. Certainly worth a similar flier. With history of success, and he’s a southern boy. Why not? You love pitching peripherals. Worth a flier?

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 24/09/2025
Seems like a logical time to basically jump the line for more controllable and potentially high quality non-roster invitees, with the risk only being jamming up the 40 man, and termination pay to trial them. Tell me what I’m wrong about there? I feel like a lot of fans just view at as the scrap heap

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 24/09/2025
So that seems plausible. I think it is a good time for AA to trial these guys, for 2 reasons 1) they have waiver priority with a lot of those teams below them not looking to spend (although cheap with a week left) & 2) if they need waiver clearance a lot of big market teams need roster spots for now

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 24/09/2025
Question. Maybe @crosbybaseball.bsky.social knows. For guys like Payamps and Alexis Diaz, can’t we tender them a contract and cut them in spring if they don’t show the improvement the team is looking for? Or are we bound to them because of arbitration rules? I know that changed slightly in 2022?

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 16/04/2025
I’m at this game in Toronto. Out of 24 outs through 8 innings, 18 are strikeouts. Do we…..suck?

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 14/04/2025
Got ya. Profar explained it. I was wondering why it went down for $233. That’s why you are the man. Good context

At least the Braves didn’t struggle with runners in scoring position tonight. Oh wait…..no game. Progress?
000
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 23/03/2025
Right. I remember it was a tense decision because of money and what his salary rose to. Not because he didn’t fit what the Braves needed, and still do IMO

Huge news here. Does show we are one or two injuries from the exact same shit bucket as last year though. lol

Profar with a wrist injury!?!?! Here we go again. lol

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 03/03/2025
Lot to put on Drake Baldwin, but will be good to see what we have: $$$ In 2024 TD was paid $8mil, and Murphy paid $9mil - Total $17mil In 2025 if Murphy is paid $15mil and Baldwin and Tromp league min of $760, let’s round to $1.5mil for both of them. - Total $16.5mil Maybe more risk. Same money.

I always love the opening day roster projections. However, if AA has taught us anything, it’s that he is going to option someone who may be better than a person they keep on the roster. It’s all about organizational depth.
000
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 12/02/2025
Remember those comments from AA about being a top 5 payroll? Hey @justinctoscano.bsky.social can we ask him about that when you interview him this spring? Wonder what he would say about that. Wait until the end of the season? We were last year? Curious

At this point it does make sense until pitchers and catchers report to make a move, but I still believe we need a couple arms before running it back #braves

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 02/02/2025
See, this makes no sense to me. This isn’t a better depth move for the Braves? You are telling me Lopez had a better shot to play behind Dansby? No shot. He would have come here on a minor league deal. These are the moves that are upsetting to me www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/02/cubs...

Cubs Sign Nicky Lopez
The Cubs have signed infielder Nicky Lopez, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.  The deal is a minor …

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 31/01/2025
Nicky Lopez? Kike? How about Laureano as a depth outfielder? They don’t all have to be Bregman type moves. This Braves roster can still improve.
010
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 29/01/2025
This is why if you get a starter, Holmes can push to the long man. I still think that has to be the play.

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 28/01/2025
Who is next up on the 40 man? If they make a move?

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 23/01/2025
Profar is NOT a Boras client anymore… So the Atlanta Braves streak holds. lol. And probably why the deal was one of the only deals to fall below projections this off-season

Wouldn’t have hated this as a depth move.

Has there ever been a team people will hate more than the 2025 Dodgers? My word

Changed it. No shot

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
Could be. But my concern is the fact that we are saying like 5 times…”if it works out.” Well yeah, if it works out is great. But isn’t effective roster construction trying to limit the questions to as few as possible? BP, LF, SS, starter. All questions. That’s scary, and concerning. Just one? Ok
110
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
Right. That’s the thing about free agents, if you don’t get a qualifying offer guy, it’s just money. Dealing prospects is a corner that we are being painted into, without the free agents we need left. If they could get PNE position in FA, like LF, it reduces overall prospect cost for the winter
110
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
That’s fine. And it does reset the tax, but it’s not a BETTER team on paper. It’s worse than going into last year for sure. That is not normally how AA rolls
000
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
I’m with you. I just think it’s making it more of a necessity to use prospects, even if Alex doesn’t want to. You don’t have to sign free agents, but if not, you need to pay a high prospect cost to make a move. Doing nothing is not a great option
110
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
Agreed. But our options are becoming more limited. Concerned for sure.

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
Something is correct. We can not like the prices, but that what the are. Just like we all liked paying under a dollar for gas back in the day, you can’t just choose not to drive. Doing nothing to sit out an expensive market is not the only solution here. To me, it means you have to trade prospects

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 19/01/2025
I am now officially concerned about the Braves offseason. There just seems to be too many things we need to break correctly to be better on paper than last year. I just do not understand this strategy this time

@crosbybaseball.bsky.social Today is the day for international signings correct? When does that window open, and when do the Braves normally comment on them?
100
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 13/01/2025
Here is an idea that could make sense. Nicky Lopez. He was only DFA’d because of Arb cost. He struggled last year, but we know the Braves like him as they have traded for him before. Seems reasonable on all fronts, no? @crosbybaseball.bsky.social @justinctoscano.bsky.social

So was Eli White arb eligible or not?

Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 09/01/2025
Just Kelenic and Lee? De La Cruz is baked in at $860k on his split contract? Or am I missing someone?
100
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 07/01/2025
Fair point. If you added in a monster contract it would blow the luxury tax out of the water. But that’s where I think prospect capital used for cheap assets during the window is essential. You keep it cheap while those contracts escalate. Thus far, we seem unwilling to do that either :)
000
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 07/01/2025
At some point though, the cost of doing business for AA has to change. He was smart to get the value in the ext he has gotten. But just waiting for those guys to take you back to WS, seems like a miss. It’s veterans like Freddie in 2021 mixing with Riley/matzek/Ian Anderson that was the secret sauce
100
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 07/01/2025
Totally fair, and I agree with that. But I would say guys in that top sphere, while they come with the enormity of the contract, also give you more of a sure thing. It’s always a moving target it seems. I agree with you Freddie is the only one that stings for me.
010
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 07/01/2025
Great show my man! Thank you for doing it! I would argue that guys like Ohtani or Harper or even Soto may have been those guys you push the chips into the middle for. Bichette and others I would agree aren’t transformative. Those guys were.

Dude….come on
000
Justin Reeves @laxman1017.bsky.social · 03/01/2025
Come on AA. Limits on luxury tax or not, there is a lot to do to make this team better. Don’t make it so we miss out on other things because there is too much to do. Gotta start making moves here….
