Question for Tolkienistas: When does a new day begin in the works of #Tolkien? Is it at sunrise? Sunset? Midnight? Midnight only makes sense if you have clocks, but hobbits had clocks according to Tolkien's own illustrations. Did various peoples reckon it differently?

I challenge you when writing your holiday letters to NOT use the word "busy" anywhere. Don't say "work has been busy" or "it's been a busy year for the Andersons" or "our teenager sure keeps us busy." Instead speak of the things that bring you joy, create hope, increase love, and make for peace.

Preaching the Narrative Lectionary and the reading was from Jeremiah about Jehoiakim burning Jeremiah's scroll and him having to start over from scratch. I related it to starting over the church year from scratch and what if we had to start from scratch with our theology. What are our base beliefs?

I like the Andy Serkis narration. I'm actually working my way through the Two Towers currently, and I decided to go back to the Rob Inglis 1990 narration to hear it again. Serkis does better with the songs, on the whole, in my honest opinion.

I am currently using it. I went through the whole 4 year cycle back in the 10s when it first came out. I'm just coming back to it right now. There are many things I like about it, but I miss having all of the ready resources available with the RCL.

I'm asking because I have an #ELCA colleague whose council has just voted to place the US flag in the chancel area and she's gathering data about the practice. My #PCUSA congregation does have a flag in the back of the sanctuary near the entrance, but not in the chancel.
