I've honestly fallen in love with this coverage of Celtic. Juco is a bit of a pessimist but I can personally affirm he's a big Tim so he's forgiven. Well worth the Substack subscription

Scottish football obviously doing something right...or at least something a lot better than it used to do. We're producing players who can succeed at a high level overseas.

Worked for 4 years at the Observer. Was a real honour, an ambition fulfilled. A publication well worth fighting for.

£750 ..sounds daft to say but amid the modern insanity of "elite golf course" greens fees that's actually reasonable (certainly less than I thought it would be for what you get). The Links Trust is a good organization, IMHO.

In a year he took six weeks off, oversaw the beginning of a ratings decline and lost a few blue chip sponsors. Makes sense.

Since No Laying Up doesn't seem to have bothered, let me post on this platform an interview they've just done with outgoing R&A CEO Martin Slumbers. It's excellent, as has been Slumbers' tenure at the governing body. What a transformation he wrought .. thank God. open.spotify.com/episode/0S2t...

This is phenomenal, although not if you're trying to write a book and need to concentrate on stuff that has nothing to do with Celtic.. 🤦😂

Murray as a coach? "Come on son, be harder on yourself. Waste more energy on moaning about everything...."

John Huggan interviews outgoing R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers. And it is absolutely brilliant. Huggy pulls no punches and Slumbers answers everything. Slumbers has made a great contribution to golf. And so has Huggy. A must read.

A mean-spirited, snobby obit. Bloody Guardian. Though there is this amazing tidbit, which I didn't know. "Prescott duly became the Labour candidate for the safe seat of Hull East. He was elected at the June 1970 general election with a 22,000 majority over the Tory candidate, Norman Lamont."

Connecting with the voters. No, really. He was. A normal person wouldn't stand for some wanker throwing an egg at his head from 2 yards away. Neither did Prescott. That's where the connection came from.

A politician who evolved, who understood that ideas without power don't change much.#RIP

So great to see Elvis Smyle at the top of the DPWT leaderboard. The guy has come on leaps and bounds since he fired that dud of a caddy who used to have, @mikeclaytongolf.bsky.social 🤣😂🤣

Great stuff from EL. can't the PGA Tour see just how toxic it has become? Maybe, like Elon, they'll wake up one day to discover the customers have gone somewhere else. If only there was somewhere else to go. Like a World Tour comprising the majors + historic national Opens + some A+ sponsors.

When I was traveling around the US covering the election I'd write posts on Substack and "promote" them on Twitter. Posts would get 10,000 'reads' and of that 10k 7 (seven) would come from twitter. If ur building a "brand" on Musk's platform you're wasting your time. Fact.

Just paid to visit to the former social media site to pick up a photo someone sent me on DM. Wow. If I'm a marketing honcho i'd be wondering why I'm paying money to these "bro" golf outfits like Foreplay, with minimal traffic and engagement. Thx Elon for taking a wrecking ball to that world. 😀👍

Garcia back on European Tour - which he called 'shit' not so long ago - and in contention for the Ryder Cup. He won't qualify for the team but unless he plays like a drain he'll get a pick. #MatesRules

The final story of the next issue of @mckellarmagazine.bsky.social has been submitted. Deadline-busting writer will never work for us again. Twat. It's an esoteric tale about the late, lamented Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking and Fred Solomon, the screwball genius behind it all.🏌️⛳ 👌

So playing college golf in America is 'a must' if you want to be a top pro? Really?? The top 20 in 2024 DPWT Order of Merit. 13 didn't play college golf at all. 2 (McIntyre, Wallace) bagged it after a year. Only 5 went all 4 years, and only 2 of those 5 (Scott, Horshel) played at a 'big' school.
