The Supreme Court ruled that the Fourteenth Amendment guarantees birthright citizenship to children born in the U.S., including those whose parents are in the country unlawfully or only temporarily, striking down the president's executive order. Erin Barbato comments:
The court reaffirmed what Wong Kim Ark settled over a century ago: Citizenship by birth on U.S. soil is a constitutional right. This ruling means a measure of stability returns on this front at least for now.

In a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a Mississippi law allowing mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day to be received and still counted up to five business days later. Danielle Friedman @uwlawdemocracy.bsky.social comments:
Today’s decision in Watson allows states to count mail ballots that are postmarked by Election Day but received a certain number of days after. This is a critically important decision: it maintains the status quo, as many states currently allow this under their own election laws, and it confirms the long-held understanding of federal law that permits it. From a practical perspective, the decision is a big win for election officials, who will not be required to overhaul any of their current practices as they continue to prepare for the upcoming midterm elections.
