Facebook has permanently disabled my account for no stated reason. And there is no further means of restoration. It has been my primary means of communication since 2009. All the writing and connection with 5000 friends gone. Poof. Find me on Substack. Facebook was a family. It made me creative.

You want your audience to love a woman? Make sure she sacrifices her interests and the interests of women in general. Make sure she hobbles herself and collapses emotionally so that women are affirmed as essentially damaged. That's the reason for Kate Whyler.

THE PASS AND THE HISTORY OF NOW. He doesn't mean what he's saying. You don't understand him. He comes from a different time. He means exactly what he's saying. I understand him perfectly. He controls my world. He has always controlled my world. And yours.

Everyone is already steeped in the Fascist playbook. Step by step and value by value. It's every religion's view of women applied to everyone else.

What would it sound like if a woman didn’t give a shit about what anyone thought of her and just went about the business of not trying to impress or win anyone to her side?

NEW STACK: A MOMENT FOR NOT DEATH The other night, I was awakened in the middle of sleep. A hot rash had bloomed on my arms and was snaking around other parts of my body. I turned on the light in the bathroom. It was a moment from The Exorcist. lauriestone.substack.com/p/a-moment-of-not-death

What happens when you watch a lot of streaming shows about spies and snipers. The bullet hit my thigh midway between the hip and knee. There was time to be glad it hadn’t hit a vital organ. When you are shot, time opens up like a corridor in those dreams about discovering extra rooms in the house

One day in Washington Square Park, I came upon a troupe of acrobats performing on the paths. They were ragged and very beautiful in their juggling and feats of balance. They were indifferent to onlookers, who watched them with awe, the crowds expanding.

It’s snowing, and my mistakes are beautiful, no two alike. When I was a kid they called it snow, the nothing on TV that vibrated. I was talking with a friend who is 53, and I realized that when I was 53 I would not have allowed myself to imagine the mind of a person who was 78.

What macho offers men is a way to feel good about despising the image of Woman—as restrictive, morally judgmental, repulsed by men’s animal nature, priggish—that men have invented. Men cheer Dylan and the Beats not in spite of their towering hatred of women but because of it.

One day Richard said to me, “I’m the most patient person you know.” I believed him, and then I wondered if this was an example of brainwashing. I tried to think of other people who liked me more than Richard, and no one came to mind. I tried to think of someone I liked more than Richard. Nada.

When I generalize about "men" without making a distinction between this kind of man and that kind of man, I am playing turnabout. For 10,000 years and in the greatly revered texts of Western literature and philosophy, men have referred to "women" without making any qualifications.

In the experiment, lived alone in a small room. Outside it was so cold you would freeze to death in five minutes. I recorded my thoughts in a book. I lived this way for six months and didn’t miss anyone. When I opened the hatch, nothing was left but happy memories.

In 2002, I drove to Columbus to be a writer-in-residence at Thurber House. The gig included an apartment on the top floor of the nondescript, three-story house where famous woman-hater James Thurber had lived. It sat on a forlorn street, near two highways and a thinly populated business zone.

How is it possible we mean so much to each other when we don’t know each other? Who knew it was chestnut season? Girlhood was brief. It felt like it would never end. I remember the smell of mint. His touch felt tender. I have come to understand this is the way human hands feel to a horse.
