no idea what openai is doing today, im suddenly getting full reasoning traces as well on sol 6.1, instead of the summaries

Checking status and findings

Wow, has it already been five minutes? I need to quickly summarize the status and pinpoint any old errors I encountered. After that, I’ll move on to the next area to investigate. Time seems to fly when I’m focused! I want to be precise and grounded in my findings so that I can effectively address any outstanding issues before proceeding further. Let’s get to it!

decentralisation moves the centralisation one layer up, as it ever does i do agree with these recommendations tho
Sustaining the custom feed ecosystem requires supporting feed discovery and creator maintenance
work. Our findings suggest that feed discovery could be supported more directly by platform infrastructure,
reducing the need for creators to self-promote. Existing third party websites9 aggregate feeds into topical lists
for ease of search, but it is unclear how effective this is for individual users to discover feeds. A potential
solution could be Bluesky utilizing a simple personalized ranking algorithm to recommend feeds based on user
interests through their already public data as a complement to the Discover feed. But we note that this can
raise the question of who designs that ranking algorithm and by what criteria, reintroducing another form of
centralized power over which feeds gain visibility. Additionally, we believe collective costs can be sustained
through community-guided labeler, moderation, and monetization systems for creators to lower the operational
burden of maintenance.

ohh i love paintings about heavy industry! This one made a big impression on me when i saw it a few years in Vienna Stahlwerk (1932), Kirnig
An industrial painting by Paul Kirnig depicting a massive, towering steel mill from a low-angle perspective. The monumental factory structure dominates the frame with its intricate steel scaffolding, giant pipes, and towering smokestacks that billow thick clouds of gray and white smoke into a dark, dramatic sky. Beams of ethereal, bright sunlight pierce through the smog and clouds, casting high-contrast light and shadow across the cold, geometric architecture. The vast machinery appears godlike and futuristic, dwarfing the scale of human life and framing the factory as a modern, technological temple.

mistral raises 3B in order to announce that they are stepping out of the frontier model race going well with our digital sovereignty i see lol mistral.ai/news/mistral...
During the first wave of generative AI, the central question was who could build the most powerful model. Organizations and governments are now asking a different one: how to harness the power of AI for their mission-critical needs without surrendering control over the infrastructure and intelligence loop. Demand for that combination of performance with control, choice and independence is growing internationally, as enterprises and governments weigh the long-term technology dependencies, data governance requirements and deployment choices that come with any AI investment.

what the fuck is claude talking about here? Section 3 says "We are not asking anyone to remove these files from the repository", forking guidelines says "Replace the Bluesky marks listed in Section 3"
We are not asking anyone to remove these files from the repository. They are here because the app needs them to build. Replacing them is a forker's responsibility, not ours.If you are forking

You have our blessing to fork this application. To do it cleanly:

Replace assets/illustrations/. Commissioned artwork, licensed to Bluesky only. See Section 1.
Source your own UI icons. The glyph set in assets/icons/ is licensed to us for our own use. See Section 2.
Replace assets/images/. Treat as not licensed to you. See Section 7.
Replace the Bluesky marks listed in Section 3 — app icons, favicons, logo files, and the inline logo paths in src/view/icons/.

why is bsky saying "we're not treating you with bad faith"? thats nice but irrelevant, you dont own these assets, thats kind of the whole point lol Or does this statement also reflect the attitudes of the actual right holders?
We should have written this down sooner. If you have already forked this repository and shipped one of the assets listed below, we are not treating that as bad faith on your part — the repository did not tell you, and that is our fault. Please work through the If you are forking checklist when you can.

whats so funny about GRRM not being able to release The Winds of Winter is that he has accidentally created the perfect illustration of how "gardening" as a writing method fails
“I think there are two types of writers, the architects and the gardeners. The architects plan everything ahead of time, like an architect building a house. They know how many rooms are going to be in the house, what kind of roof they're going to have, where the wires are going to run, what kind of plumbing there's going to be. They have the whole thing designed and blueprinted out before they even nail the first board up. The gardeners dig a hole, drop in a seed and water it. They kind of know what seed it is, they know if planted a fantasy seed or mystery seed or whatever. But as the plant comes up and they water it, they don't know how many branches it's going to have, they find out as it grows. And I'm much more a gardener than an architect.”

i dislike this beyond being factually incorrect, it is also missing the core problem with Big Tech Algorithms: it is a matter about who controls attention, not the algorithm itself /1
BlueSky today is really two things. There’s the BlueSky app, which is what a lot of people are familiar with. It’s a social network. We think it’s a better social network. It’s more human focused, doesn’t have ads. It doesn’t have algorithms. But more importantly, underneath BlueSky is an open protocol called AT Protocol. And BlueSky is only one of now over a thousand apps built on that protocol.

Im surprised they went for the copyright and safety argumentation, when an ethical justification was right there, they already did it with banning crypto! its very clear that codeberg users wouldnt want ai code even if new regulation dissolved the copyright issue, so why give it as reason?
Content that harms the reputation of Codeberg, such as cryptocurrency related projects.

You must not share projects that mostly consist of code written by "generative AI"-tools (including services such as Claude, OpenAI Codex). Such projects having an unclear copyright status (see requirements § 2 (1) 1 and § 2 (1) 3) and furthermore have little safeguards to ensure that they do not include harmful code (c.f. § 2 (1) 5).

reading through the actual plan now, and it is hard to overstate how incredible funny and insane it is to say "we are gonna threaten you with a fine of 3% of global revenue if you share your most powerful technology with us"
2.1. Assessing and mitigating risks posed by frontier AI
The AI Act sets out requirements for the cybersecurity of AI systems14 and requires providers
of the most advanced general-purpose AI models to assess and mitigate systemic risks,
including from misuse of AI in the cyber domain.15
As of 2 August 2026, the Commission will exercise the supervisory and enforcement powers
provided by the AI Act to ensure effective oversight of AI systems as well as of general-purpose
AI models, including models that present systemic risks related to cybersecurity.16 This
oversight includes assessing the providers’ identification of risks associated with model
capabilities and their implemented measures to mitigate those risks. These requirements
continue to be proportionate to the capabilities of the technology at hand.
The supervisory and enforcement powers will be supported by the Scientific Panel advising
the Commission’s AI Office, secure reporting channels, and the Code of Practice for
general-purpose AI.

Belgian media reports that Belgium also have to pay the procedural costs of a 1000 dollars, which is just such a perfect detail
18:42

Red cards are not overturned by political phone calls. They are overturned by rules, evidence and independent bodies. If a U.S. President intervenes with the FIFA President — and a player is suddenly cleared before a World Cup knockout match — the question is unavoidable: Quo vadis, FIFA?

the eYou people, a closed european twitterclone that is now using didplc for identity, seem to be reading my posts and have figured out the fairly horrifying implications of it
A lot of you have been asking us the same question.

"Why isn't eYou built on the AT Protocol?"

I owe you a real answer. And today, I'll give you two.

Because we've also just shipped something: you can now sign in to eYou with your Bluesky identity. It's live. People are using it.

Let me explain both.

First. Why we didn't build on AT Protocol.

AT Protocol is impressive engineering. Real respect for the team behind it.

But look closely at how it works, and at what European law requires of us.

1. The firehose. The moment you post, relays crawl your PDS and store full copies of your data. A public stream called the firehose broadcasts every post, like, and follow. It requires no authentication. Anyone can subscribe, capture, archive, and republish. Forever.

2. The right to erasure (GDPR Article 17). When you delete on AT Protocol, your PDS removes its copy. But the firehose has already broadcast it. Relays hold their own copies. Scrapers have indexed it. The protocol provides no mechanism to force them to delete. Erasure becomes a polite request, not a right.

3. The Russmedia ruling (CJEU, December 2025). This Grand Chamber decision (C-492/23) holds that platforms hosting user content qualify as joint data controllers under GDPR, with preventive obligations before publication. It also confirms that the Digital Services Act safe harbor does not displace GDPR. Applied to AT Protocol, where Relays and AppViews actively ingest and index user data, this creates a serious compliance problem. Preventing third-party copying of personal data is exactly what federation is designed not to do.

4. The did:plc identifier. AT Protocol's default identity method relies on a cryptographically chained, append-only operation log, operated as a central directory by a single US-based company. Erasing entries breaks the chain's integrity. Article 17 requires full erasure to be possible.

apparently the US and North Vietnam spend 10 weeks negotiating the shape of the table at which the negotiations would take place, so Im excited to see what new levels of absurdity we can get to with the Iran war negotiations
A similar debate concerned the shape of the table to be used at the conference. The North favored a circular table, in which all parties, including NLF representatives, would appear to be "equal"' in importance. The South Vietnamese argued that only a rectangular table was acceptable, for only a rectangle could show two distinct sides to the conflict. Eventually a compromise was reached, in which representatives of the northern and southern governments would sit at a circular table, with members representing all other parties sitting at individual square tables around them.[13]

an open source strategy so the EC can offload the cost of developing age verification software to unpaid labor
The open source strategy includes actions and strategic projects to turn mature open source
building blocks into more widely used solutions across the technology stack, while supporting
the development of new solutions in areas where strategic dependencies remain and where open
source solutions can help to diversify the market, such as operating systems and AI algorithms.
As illustrated by the beta launch of the EU age verification app, open source communities can
help stress-test solutions, identify bugs and make them more robust

the @ec.europa.eu is so ambitious that the big plan for the future of the internet is that the government of 450 million people is gonna spend some serious effort in figuring out how they can create a new account on social media software they already run
Strengthen the open source social media space76 by supporting open and decentralised
social media solutions and platforms. The Commission currently runs a Mastodon instance,
which hosts the Commission’s presence and plans to extend the users basis to EU
institutions.
