So, farewell then, Lord Jeffery Archer. Liar, fraudster, fantasist, plagiarist, narcissist, and, of course, a bully. A man ahead of his times! www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v1...

Changes to @digitalcuration.bsky.social IJDC. Data availability statement ✅ Statement on AI use ✅ Option of CRediT for authors ✅ In return, we've simplified the submissions template for you (and us, yes they were a nightmare to deal with). 🙌 www.dcc.ac.uk/blog/changes...

This reminds me of all the "greatest albums" lists. English language ✅ Guitars ✅ Men ✅ (Maybe Joni or Janis get a look in) White ✅ (The Jimi Hendrix Exception)

After a year or so, it's clear Carney is probably the best conservative leader of his generation. Says a lot that parties that actually call themselves conservative don't want to be associated with him.

Just desk rejected the third paper this week that was probably AI generated. Bots be busy!

Abigail is a reliable must read, but this is a must must read.

I would go further. Call it "Super-Duper Intelligence."

Sometimes @datarescueproject.org is depicted as *just* a crisis focused group. Our mission is to advocate for public data for the public good. We work to keep the importance of public data in public awareness by amplifying the work of data curators, gov info librarians, and others.

I'm tempted, purely for the chance to sit there and do this.

Scene from the film _This is Spinal Tap_ showing someone at their concert giving the thumbs down gesture.

I put aside some time to do some linking recent publications to Zenodo records, but can't do that now because it's posting a 504. I'm aware this is what failing infrastructure is. You plan to do something, can't because the power/water/other public good is not working, so you shrug, and accept it.

Sitting here trying to access Zenodo, which is down again. Coincidently, four men on different coloured horses just trotted past the window.

Breaking my no discourse rule, but congratulations to Ed Sheeran on being the latest to learn that neutrality helps the oppressor. Assuming he's learnt, of course.

My pathway to crankdom is outrage at the impact of these Norman invaders had on the shire governance of England.

What's remarkable about this day 25 years ago is I heard about it from someone at work, but none of us saw it. No smartphones, social media, televisions, radio -- not even computers connected to the internet. It wasn't until a few hours later at home I saw something that wasn't word of mouth.

Kevin Ashley is now @digitalcuration.bsky.social's former director. His reflections blog post is typically generous to colleagues and community, but also perceptive and cautionary. That's for us to deal with, for him a well-deserved and happy retirement begins. www.dcc.ac.uk/blog/reflect...
