Friends, pastel, 2025, 53x68cm (x2) Sadly, after 2000 trees were cleared from the landing path of the domestic airport in early 2025, my Friends were nowhere to be found. RIP Friends. It's a hard life being a tree in Iceland. #pastel #painting #urbantrees #fineart #icelandart

A brightly colored, expressive pastel diptych, each panel depicting a tree extending its branches to connect to the tree in the other panel.

Just because I'm painting again doesn't mean that I've given up on photography — far from it. This photo encaustic diptych of a tangle of tall birches in Elliðaárdalur in Reykjavik will be on display as part of my Urban Trees show. #fineart #encaustic #photoencaustic #icelandart #filmphotography

Photo encaustic diptych of tangled, tall birch trees in a small valley in Reykjavik, Iceland called Elliðaárdalur. The encaustic wax is built up to create texture around the edges of each piece, and the muted tones of the background vary from yellow to green.

My latest pastel painting from the Urban Trees series. This was done from a couple of snapshots I took in the summertime at Tjörnin, the pond in the city center of Reykjavik. This painting is all about the green. Tree in Green, 70x50 cm. #pastelpainting #fineart #painting #urbantrees #icelandart

A pastel painting of a closeup of an evergreen tree in the summer with branches spread and bright, almost neon green grass below. Painted with bold, decisive marks.

And now for something a little different - an idea that had been sitting in a drawer for months is now a reality. Veður/Weather 102x79cm Charcoal, pastel, encaustic wax #fineart #painting #encaustic #charcoal

Encaustic wax painting on 9 panels depicting a mountain with active clouds in the sky above. A scene encountered on a drive from Hólmavík to Akureyri on a typical summer day serves as the reference for this piece. It seemed fitting to depict it using earthy materials like coal and wax, coaxing the image into being with heat and perseverance. Is it the earth that influences its inhabitants, or the other way around?

Touched this one up today and calling it done. This tree survived the clearing of trees in Öskjuhlíð, February 2025. I Stand Still, 2025, pastel, 15x20in. #pastelpainting #fineart #urbantrees #öskjuhlíð #painting

Pastel painting of a tree standing alone, defiantly with branch up in an elegant post. Hot pink underpainting pops through the ground, sky and throughout the whole painting. This tree was one still standing after 100s were removed to clear the landing path of the domestic airport.
