The results hold across alt specifications and robustness checks, incl a placebo using grocery spending. Given the link between SWD and RRP support, we also probe whether ⬆️energy burdens lead to ⬆️AfD support and find suggestive evidence that they do (but data availability limits this analysis) 3/4

Despite its relevance, we still know too little about how energy burdens shape political attitudes. We combine granular energy data with SOEP data, leveraging variation in energy prices across Germany in an IV design to estimate the political consequences of rising household energy burdens. 2/4
