In the beginning of _A Castrovel: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol tells Erymi (Oshis's wifemate) of Sievae and her child... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
I and reached the hold-tree by fore-eve, when I rode Ess into the underyard, and hailed the tree. Erymi shortly outcame onto the deck. Soon as we neared, she bewared something wrong.

I told I had found Sievae and her child homeless on the streetyard. To Erymi’s lief, her first ask was whether they hailed well, which I yaysaid. I then asked what we should rightly do for them. Erymi weightily answered that she kenned Sievae, had deemed her a good warrior, forwhy she had ridden under Erymi, and owned her no ill will. Erymi had known Oshis had loved her, though also with other men. Against that deed, Sievae had beseeched Oshis to stand as her fathermate. He had withheld, which had made the hefty strife between. I outspoke Sievae’s boy looked cannily like Oshis, and could readily believe him Oshis’s son.

Erymi took this news evenly. She said that, if the child is Oshis’s, then he owns a shirkless dearth. I read her while she reckoned, and then leaned forward and kissed her. Soon as our minds touched, I beheld her worry: not only Oshis’s likely behavior, but also the heedful happendom that two other wives now in the city both bear her manmate’s children. The thought overwhelmed her. I gave her some while, and then spoke that, whatever she choose, I will uphold. She shortly sobbed and hugged me near. Then she spoke she would come tomorrow to the city and meet Sievae.

Lashunta Word of the Week
Aelama (/a:e.Ja:ma./; common): shieldmate; comrade; comrade in arms.

Similar to the English terms, this word connotes a bond of loyalty and shared services,
and possibly shared danger and privation. Although it does not have the same emotional strength
as ~assama~ - housemate, it is stronger than ~homaea-~ - friend.

This word often declines my gender (with the common gender often used as a plural
reference for mixed subjects) according to the subject’s identity:

- Aelame (feminine)
- Aelamas (masculine)
- Aelamu (animal), sometimes used by a rider to refer to their shotalashu.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol runs into her former comrade Sievae, where some news comes to light... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Earlier today, I came through the Harbor-Farthing, I behappened through a lane where I witted a damaya sitting against a wall. She had a tawdry bag set aside and held a child. Something utterly ruthful bestruck me of their steadship, and I wondered they were homeless. I slowed stride, bethinking I might behold their plight.

Right then the wife looked upward. I knew her face: Sievae, who had been bowrider under my first sith. She had left after our homecome from El and Qabarat, foreguessably to her kindred, and also bechild. Ere thought, I knelt and took her hand. She blinked shakenly, and then wept while she bowed over my hand. We tangled antennae.

Brokenly amid sobs, I got her tale. After her firdhood’s end, Sievae had gone to her kindred. Yet their ties had misdrawn, in no small share forwhy her mother had misliked Sievae bearing home a babe without a fathermate to work their farm. After a dreadful strife Sievae had left. She had chosen not to seek a farmhold lot forwhy she fits unwell to the livelihood, and so had wandered to the freeholds north of the City, though there found only hardship. So she had come to the City, begging milk from farmholds they betrod along the way, in hope of finding groomhood.

I again beheld her as the bowrider who had followed my first reeveship. Then I looked at the child, a small but spry boy with dun skin and bold eyes, and witted Oshis’s likeness.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol realized that peacetime also has challenges... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Today I met with Lady-Captain and Captain Dosauesh, who wished to overtalk fetchbid logs for the upcoming year. I halted at this forethought and asked that we offhold until the New Year, whereto they yaysaid.

Lady-Captain then upbrought another thought: now that I am homecome, do I wish to stay as flagmaiden? At once I answered yes. She atook, but then asked whether I had thought to how I will uphold my house. She added that, while the Citadel will keep sharing my housemates’ food-dole, Flagwives are forelooked to share their underlings’ fee, and a wantsome flagwife brings no more wealth. I forespoke to reckon this thing and give answer straightaway.

Flustered and rather aloss, I went to Lady-Mother’s hall. Over noonmeal I beseeched to speak and somewhat ashamedly outlaid my riddle. She listened forbearingly, and then laughed. She had foreseen this likelihood and had made some forestock. She then brought forth a deedwrit, which I read as a dole for five hundred elindro a year. She told this is the last share of Grandmother Efadi’s bequest, which she had held for my heed. Unmuch, sundrily matched at what my sisters needed to start their livelihoods among the Matronhood. Yet it will stand me worthily. Overwhelmed, I thanked and kissed her. Frankly, I had owned no thought there was even anything left of my grandmother’s bequest, for I had erstwhilely understood it all had been uptaken by my sisters. I wonder what my mother must have done to overtide it.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol finally reunites with her wifemate Remaue, and someone new... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Remaue sat right beyond the roof, where a thinspot in the leafwhelve inlet skylight. She gazed down at a small shape nestled on her brest: a chubby bronze face and blue hair swaddled in a silk, suckling from her heavy bosom. If she witted my income, she showed not, all her mindfulness aimed at the darling held near. So overwought I became that breathlessly I stumbled on the top step, trying to speak thoughtlessly.

While I stammered, a mind touched mine. It was Remaue’s, only else, a mighty sheen almost lightlike that warmed my heart lovingly.

I fell to the deck and wept.

Remaue spoke aloud: ~E Lanaryel~ - “This is Lanaryel,” she greeted. At once I understood the nameroot: from Queen Lanare, who had founded Elder Son’s empire and had built the palace whose wreckstead even today overlooks our city. Recking Remaue’s own queenlike selfness, it is a mighty name and fitting. I had ere been with my sisters' babes and had felt their mind’s strength, matched with blithe openness to all about. Yet Lanaryel’s self-strength staggered me. Maybe she owns a trueborn soulseer knack. Maybe she aimed on me from her shared yestermind with Remaue, forwhy she kenned me and her mother’s love at first moot. How truly I know not. I can merely tell that this fresh newborn welcomed and folded me in sheer love.

Beside Remaue I knelt and looked down at this small wonder feeding from her body: her child from Less, who I gathered had already bewoldered in his giftmoot, who would be blood-kin to Tae’s child still unborn. I reminded our tears when I had left for the warfare, and Remaue’s stark face upon the wharf while our boat left harbor, her belly already swelling with the small one she here held. My heart quailed under shame that I had ever left her.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol seeks Remaue while Vosaeth and Erymi finally meet and contemplate their shared fathermate... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
When we reached the main deck, Erymi came forth, and with her Tesine her daughter, who is five years old, and by her behavior I reckoned already well into her Fierce Fives. She broke her mother’s hold and ran straight to us newcomers. I picked her up, and soon as her mind linked with mine, she kenned me. Then blithely she headed to Vosaeth and kissed her, who weepily begladdened.

I first caught tightness between Erymi and Vosaeth, though I reckon little Tesine’s atakenness softened it. Warily I took back the girl and gave her to her mother, reckoning we must acknowledge Erymi’s stallworth as Oshis’s sworn wifemate. Vosaeth likewise took clue and hailed Erymi. She then asked forgiveness, first for hithercoming unforecalled, and moreover forwhy she had leavelessly used Erymi’s manmate. She added she had long wished to meet the wifemate who owned the faith of so mighty a warrior as Oshis, and sorely wished to meet his kin. Then she knelt and asked what dearth Erymi would becrave.

For a breathtide Erymi stood wordless. Then she answered she would claim no dearth, but rather, the two wives should gather. She then bade Vosaeth stand, whereafter in trend Erymi knelt and kissed the reaverwife's belly. Then she foreyeilded Vosaeth tea. Together they sat at the tea hearth.

The two wives' moottide left me with Tae and Less, who smiled. Less upcame, took my hands, and kissed them, his antennae shuddering mirth. Then he nodded to the upper-limb bower that Remaue had once set as ours. ~Malle~ - “She waits,” he outthought softly.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vosaeth, as a guest of Vaeol's mother, shares some good news... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Lady-Mother led us three to her house, along with my sisters and the higher matrons. She welcomed Lady Vosaeth and gave the City’s guesthood, and then spoke she understood we stand in Vosaeth’s dearth after her help and good rede while in the South.

Vosaeth kissed my hand and answered the dearth was well paid, for Son had already given a gift beyond reckoning. When my mother asked, Vosaeth answered she is bechild from a Son warrior. I reckon I should not be forecaught, for all the lovesport she and Oshis had dallied since Qabarat like monkeys. Still, I flushed from shame, or so I thought, though even now I am unsure why. Now reckoning back while I write, it almost feels jealousy.

Wiselessly, Vosaeth’s news was taken with great cheer. Lady-Mother called for bubblemead, and we drank to her health. Lady Vosaeth shall stay some while as our guest, which doubtlessly shall help build the elder but worrisome ties that bind Son and the Retaea Clans.

Thereafter, Istae and I hosted Vosaeth to the Citadel (though with my mother’s strong word I should bring both her and me back sure and swiftly) where we afterlooked our warriors. We found almost had already fled, whether to kin’s and sweethearts dearness or the city’s idleness. We merely met our underreeves, who forbore watch in hope of their own soon freedom.

Vosaeth and I shared a thought while we clasped hands. At her nod, I told Oshis that, before he leave for our flaghold, he should wait on Vosaeth’s word. When his antennae twitched askingly, she giggled and told that all his hard work had gained well. Then she shrove her bechildness. Gleefully, I watched him stand speechless. Then he laughed. Oshis knelt and kissed her belly while the others cheered.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol describes her reunion with her family... #pathfinder #pathfinderrpg #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
At my behest, we sent no runner ahead. Yet nevertheless, the townfolk took wit, and soon a crowd gathered and followed our showmarch to Dale Street and upward through the trademistresses’ farthing, and then ran ahead. By the time we reached the Ofu, they had gathered at the Heartyard, including many kin, friends, and lovers of our warriors, who began falling out to greet long-lorn sweethearts. Against myself, I had no heart to chide the breach.

Then from the Matrons’ Hall hastened Lady-Mother unhosted, and my sisters trippingly trying to upcatch. She waited not at the stairhead but ran down while we rode up. Ere we halted, she unheeded Ess (who had good thought to forgive her upstartness) and hugged my leg. Her antennae shuddered on my harness, and she would not let me go. Mildly as I could, I unsteeded, took her in arm, and answered the kiss, letting her sorrowful gladness overwhelm. I wept, too. So strong were our linked hearts that I think others nearby so befelt. The matrons gathering before the doors withheld, nevermind the breach to couthness. Vosaeth laughed even while she wiped eyes.

At last, my mother grew too weary to hold me more. Sniffingly, she backed, begged forgiveness, and asked what we would. I showed forth Lady Istae and Lady Vosaeth, asked them to stay, and bade the warriors to the Citadel, where they should stall and unpack, and then have the city’s freedom. Cheeringly, Krastaes and the underreeves led them forth, under many merry shouts from the onlookers.

Lady-Mother led us three to her house, along with my sisters and the higher matrons. She welcomed Lady Vosaeth and gave the City’s guesthood, and then spoke she understood we stand in Vosaeth’s dearth after her help and good rede while in the South.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol finally comes home to Son after the Formian War... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
We had crossed the landhold’s edgemark yesternight. Thus we saw the Aelau’s tail within a belltide of morning, which drew me to the prow, along with most any else not at oar. As wont for boatfare, we came along the island’s eastern shore. I watched the landscape slide by and idly wondered whether the hometree of my father’s farmhold stands therein. From my sightstead, we beheld Tonyol’s towntrees and walls show over the fields on the righthand bank. As we followed the island’s bend, the first green sheen: the Father-Hunter’s dome, then the Citadel’s wall steeples. Then over all, the lightspire at the island’s head, everburning where it stands behind Burning-Mother’s temple.

I fought off tears, squeezed eyes shut, and stayed swy. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder and beheld Istae. Wordlessly we stood together, speaking nothing but sharing thought.

Our flatbarks sidled up to Lowertown’s wharf while a bell tolled our coming. We got all off the boats and tarried about the harboryard. All helms and harness already shone, and the shotalashu got fodder. We are a veteran host, unbeweighed by the pomp and sharpness folk hold dear, after our late warfare. I asked Lady Vosaeth what she would becrave as Son’s guest. She shrugged heedlessly. If she had something in mind (and laterward I learned she did), she worried not.

Bywardly, Captain Dosuaesh showed, alone and arailed almost as a mean warrior: but a weaponkilt and his rank’s neckband. Wordlessly he came among us, asking no hail, daring no outlay. Yet as one, all the warriors stood aring. Master-Captain went to one, reached forth his antennae, and kissed him. He went to each warrior in trend and did samely. Then he came and kissed my antennae. I befelt two things: ruth and understanding, and reminder of his old firdtide at the war. Even ere our warfare and from first I met him, I had ever witted his sorrow. He had hinted at it in our talks about the Formian War, wherein he had forewarned to not forelook glory...

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol describes their voyage's stops heading up the mighty River Yaro... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
We have reached Hanazhyana after a tough daysworth rowing, for the Stormtide flood has at last strengthened. Tonight we are thankful to get off the flatbarks and under a dry roof. I have chosen to break my own law about staying in Hanazhyana, unleastly for the haven they bestowed when we came here on our comeback from Sovyrian.

Therefore after the warriors settled, I headed up to the stronghold where I showed myself to the watchreeve and told I would beseech hearth with Lady-Captain Ashi and yield goodwill. Instead of Lady Ashi, however, a steadholder told that she is now afield. When I asked what had become of the foul wwart-things we had erewardly fought and brought a sample here, she answered Lady Ashi had earnestly taken our word and has led many scoutfares through rainwood, swamp, and darkfloor seeking those same banes. Even now she iscouts toward Lost Hoshiasa on thought these things might somehow be linked to the worldgate. The steadholder forespoke to bring my word to the lady-captain at her homecome. Then she wished me goodwill, whereat I left with a better worship for the Hanata than I had earlier owned.

7. Shenealae - 11th Day on the Yaro; Mahyat

After another hard four days, we have reached Mahyat, where, oddly, I had never stayed, forwhy it is near enough to Son that it is often missed. Yet Mahyat with Son and Old Hanat made a threesome of the Warrior-Queens' elder cities, whose names fill our yoretales. Indeed, from my lore, Mahyat's ownership made the main feud-sake between Son and Old Hanat, whose yestermind is borne down through Hanazhyana, which was founded by Old Hanat’s afterbears. I have found it a bustling burgh, thick with trade from Father-Yaro’s cleft with the Laul, which stream runs from the mountains and brings much ore. Smeltworks burn nigh forever, which spreads a queer smokiness unfound in other cities I have visited. Mahyat’s smeltworks, instead of burning wood, use a coalstone they delve from the mountains along with...

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol bothersomely deals with Vosaeth taking Oshis up on his offer... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Stormtide has offheld, I gladly say, and we make good furtherness upflood. Our two flatbarks tag each other, sometimes racing, sometimes rowing near to speak over water. I have asked Lady Vosaeth to oversee the other boat, though at night we camp together. Every night, Vosaeth takes Oshis to bed. Such bothers me not. Yet they seemingly take every hap to show their lovesport. Yesternight, we camped abank. I and Istae had made bed together on the flatbark’s stockbales. When we maidens came back from duskmeal, we found Vosaeth and Oshis lying upon our bed. Then they offleapt and left laughingly, leaving us shameful and with blushing brows.

Tonight we are docked at Eiha, where Vosaeth has seen fit to buy an innroom in town. She asked me to duskmeal. When I arrived, I met not only her, but Oshis too. After meal, she asked me to watch. I shrive this nighttide has left me unsettled, forwhy I now sit writing this, unleastwise for Oshis’s thought. He misdraws me, and I reckon Vosaeth knows.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol gets a surprising offer from Vosaeth, her wild Retaea barbarian spearsister... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashutna #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Last stood Vosaeth, wild like the tall moorland shotalashu whom her folk tame and ride, and in whose veins flows the Thief-Queens' blood who once had ruled from the Shemez to the Shattersea. I asked her to name the gift she would have, for she had cloven us whom she had not kenned, but had freely bestowed friendship, and by her leadership had upheld us all.

In answer, Vosath grinned and chucklingly warned that, the last time Son had offered a Retaea such a gift, the Thief-Queens had taken not only Son but the whole Yaro Strath. In goodwill we all laughed. Yet earnestly instead, she spoke she would becrave three things. First, she told while her hips swayed, she would have my love; next, her pick of our korasha; and third, even a child if the gods so will, for she longs to bring a babe back to the Retaea’s wide skies and would reckon it a boon if her child bears Son's blood.

At her word, Oshis boldly stepped forth, as if I ever doubted he would withhold. He knelt, kissed her belly, and upyielded himself, telling he owns proven manliness with children already. We all laughed, though some chided him so offering with Erymi his wifemate so far at home. Yet I knew her mind, and foresaw she would bless his deed.

At nighttide’s end, I sagged against Istae, who led me to a bench, set thereon, and found me bubblemead. I overlooked the innstead, at my friends and under-reeves. I beheld their mirth, and also relief that we had overcome war’s awfulness. I would lead our flag home and take more honor therein than in the outbound fare. Then I leaned between Semuane and Istae, a last mindshare amongst us three, ere dreams took me.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol helps her shieldmates and friends celebrate warfare's end and their impending return to Son... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding
Yestereve, I threw a mirthtide for my underreeves, many whomof I had reckoned as friends and lovers even ere our warfare to Valmayana. I chose the same meadyard Erymi and Remaue had held on our comeback from El, unleastly for its fond yestermind. So I sent word to Lady Istae, Lady Vosaeth, Krastaes, Tae and Less, Oshis, Draue, Nae, and Hanos, who all forespoke to cleave our merry nighttide. Semuane also came, though I think moreso for my sake.

For duskmeal, I had found an elven cook, a craft found only here in Qabarat, with thought to give my friends a dear taste. He readied dishes of salted greens and sourworts in oilwine, honey-roasted thurse-rump oversodden with thick tea-broth, grasscake and cheese, and for the last showdish: a glazed pie baked with with spicy wormworst, sweetworts and nuts, overslathered in creamsap, and then whereover we drizzled meadbrandy. We cheered these dishes and yielded the cook many bubblemead glasses. He took them thankfully, since I had stocked many jugs. I also hired a drummer and singer, who also played harp and upkept our mirth.

The evetide started with good news, and which I already knew, for Tae and Less had made good worth of the shipfare back from Qoaronaea - she is bechild. I bestowed them honeygold threadwork silk as gift, rather like Erymi had gotten years ago. I kissed them both and spoke that, if they still wish, they may welcomely follow my flag, and furthermore may have both house and love, and also Remaue’s, who I already know awaits them so much as I.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Part 3_, Vaeol's and Semuane's relationship reaches a watershed with their return to Qabarat, as Semuane makes a choice about her future, and Vaeol's impending homefare to Son... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Something happened amid our love yesternight. Wordlessly we swore something to each other, not quite matehood as I share with Remaue, which our cities would forbid, but more than idle maidenlove. Semuane sought a belonging, her worth as more than a maiden, even though she will stay evermaiden. For the night I cradled her body against mine, soothing her weariness.

We slept late and little recked duty, for with reach to Qabarat our warfare has ended. The warriors are already given freedom to tarry in the city. If I showed ere noonmeal at the Embassy, I would do well. We awoke already in mindshare as if we had never offbroken.

While we bathed, I asked what she will do. She shrugged and said she would samely as ever. She shared, however, that she knew a sith of like-minded wives and maidens here in Qabarat: other outriders and warriors, some tradewives, and even a few matrons, who belove evermaidenhood. This word heartened me even while it forecaught. If they uphold each other, then my heart will ease for Semuane’s sake.

Her life choice makes some worry, forwhy her kin, like almost other lashunta, forelook daughters to bear forth children and keep the bloodline. Furthermore, without wifehood, she would be withheld sundry rights. And yet, as outrider, it might only be canny, forwhy we forgo wifehood, at least while our first thewdom (I have already had my sisters goading me to set a bridetide and try for a child, and not for my sake). Since I had arisen to flagmaiden, could Semuane follow my example? Maybe so. Our songs and tales are full of yorely outriders who forsook men for a princess’s love, and so benamed their worth and deeds. In truth, the other mate in these lovetales is ever a wifemate, fully invested and with children whom the maidenmate takes as her own, and ever a matron if not higher, under whose ladyship the outrider-maiden is upheld. Our folk show rough eyes to those who fall beyond wont.

Lashunta Word of the Week
Moeru (/mo:e.ru./; animal): formians; formians; members of a large, intelligent antlike species that colonized Castrovel near the end of the Age of the Sage-Queens, and which shares historical enmity with the lashunta.
This word is of Old Valmaean origin, though it has been largely adopted into most lashunta languages in Asana. Curiously, although most terms for intelligent species occur in the common gender, this word occurs mainly in the animal gender, almost as if the lashunta intentionally deny them personhood.

Related Terms:
Moeryonu (animal): worker-caste formian
Miurohu (animal): warrior-caste formian
Mirushae (feminine): myrmarch formian

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol describes the sea voyage back northward after warfare's end... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Our seafare’s highest thrill outcame when a herd of snailgods swam to surface at nighttide, two days ere Nivaea. They floated beside our ship, shells glowing with coral-fey in dithering patterns. Our sailors yielded wide berth, for though these huge water-qoelu stir but slowly, their blow could wallow and swamp our ship or even crush the hull. We stood at the stern while their winking lights faded in our wake.

Nivaea outstood by far the most enthriving city we reached. As the greatest and richest city in the South and founded back while the Time of the Warrior-Queens, it has been rebuilt no less than five times over history, as the bed of great Father-Hisyho has shifted where it meets the Shattersea. Our flag got a walkshow of one of these ghost cities, where the neighborfolk had cleared a path through the rainwood. Thus we got to stand in a queen’s palace main hall, whose throne’s marble dais still stood at the midst, and beheld mosaics of the gods wrought on the underdome, and from the walls, stonelikenesses of the elder queens with their haremmates.

Within the great harbor, we saw folk and heard tongues from Then on Lake Arasene’s shore, and even Candares, who had brought freight over the Sea of Mist from further east. Then I caught Oshis watching along the riverside, overlooking a fleet of odd, brightly hued houseboats tied to the bank. He hailed another man with his hair braided with bright scarves, who stepped off a boat. Shortly they spoke, and then left with friendly waves. Reckfully I turned to Less and asked what betided, and whose boats these were. He answered they belong to the Raumoava, the wandering riverfolk who make their livelihood by trade.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol experiences a crisis of faith before the Qoaronae... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
The Valmaean High Captain spoke before the fane. She bade us remind our tide here and the warfare we had witnessed, the foe’s dread we had undergone, and the friends fallen we had lost. She bade us bear this yestermind back homeward and never forget, and never forgive. Then she bade us pray to the Qoaronae for winfulness.

My throat choked on the hymn, and I could not spit the words. Of all the gods I have kenned, the Qoaronae I love least. Unlike Burning-Mother, from what I saw at war, the Qoaronae do not ward and do not cleanse. They reap souls and blood, and whether they be lashunta or formians, I wonder that it may reck not. Instead of light, they belong to darkness and thrive thereon. Yet that is the least reason. For the coldheartedness and bloodymindedness I witnessed in Valmayana, I forsake the Qoaronae.

In school, I read the ‘Woe for Lost Valmaea’, and even foolishly tried it in the original Old Valmaean. I had loved the poetry, the fights and love-bouts, and overall the sheer wrath, a City meeting its own death. I remind how the hero Lady Beareal’s speech shouted right off the bookleaf into my mind: “Keep your warm gods smiling through heavenly skies. My gods behold a fiercer spirit. I, like them, was born under the South’s low, heavy sky. Heaven smiles not here. My heaven is the battlefield.” Lady Beareal and the Valmaeans may keep their southern gods. I choose Heaven.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol witnesses the war-goddess religion of Valmayana... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
After another year of such watchfare and other tasks, our firdtide in Valmaeana ended with our comeback to Qoaronaea. We marched up the Street of Heroes in full weaponshow, under the High Staff and Captains’ oversight. We were then led into the Temple of the Qoaronae - the War-Goddesses, at the city’s heart, a building so great that its main hall easily holds five thousand folk, which tallied, including us, the Qabarata, our other allies, and so many Valmaeans as the room let, as Honor Ward. There we stood sharp under the gaze of the Goddess’s mighty stonelikenesses, each fifty armspans tall, carven in startling, awful whitsomeness: hair of snapping snakes, mouths afang, blood-dark wings, harness gleaming darkly, and weapons clutched in clawed hands. The Qoaronae, whom the Valmaeans have besworn as their matron-goddesses, and this city’s namesake. By all tales, this stead is a world-wonder.

I heard a yoretale that the Qoaronae are the triplet-daughters of Burning-Mother and Father-Night. When they reached maidenhood, they went to their father and asked to help in warding their home, their siblings, and all the Sun-Worlds. When Father-Night yaysaid, they beseeched him to show them the Outer Darkness, for they claimed they must understand the dreads they would ward against. Begrudginlgy, Father-Night listened and led them into the darkness between stars. When the three maiden-goddesses came home, they were fearsomely shifted: no longer fair, and looking even as their stone-likenesses shown before me.

When I behold their snaky locks, sharp mouths as carven in their stones, and bloodily clawed fingers, I recall bewritnesses I have read of the elder Moqeva. I wonder how we have undertaken gods who even seem like these erstwhile foes.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol comes face to face with the embodiment of her people's bane: a Formian Myrmarch... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Then came a lone shape from the Formian swarm, who climbed a small crag beside the neck. A great Myrmarch, almost big as a Shotalashu and rider together, shell-crest sweeping like a helm, glyphs twisting down her scales, such as my grandmother Eavol had slain two hundred years ago, stood at the crag’s far end.

There she rose to full height, and weaponless. We reeves overtalked this meaning and reckoned she wished a truce-speech. As outrider and also soulseer, the Captain looked to me. I swallowed my boldness, sat Ess, and outrode to meet the Formian.

Semuane and Oshis rode as host to the crag’s foot. There, under sight not only of the lone Myrmarch staring buggily down, but also both hosts, I kissed them both. Then I handed Semuane my swordbill and sword, and then bade Ess climb the crag. Gamely we scampered upward, though my worry set him on edge. We reached the cragtop and beheld the Myrmarch awaiting.

Again I overlooked her shell-whelmed head and body, and the glyphs etched thereon. Quoth the Southerners, Formians so bewrite their deeds and rank upon their bodies. Unshakingly, this Myrmarch’s shell was so etched down to her spindly feet. Though she bore no weapon, I beminded her tail-stinger bowed high. If this outcame a trap, then I reckoned I had Ess to even the odds, and we should sell our lives so dearly as we could.

Ess halted about ten strides from the Myrmarch. I doffed helm under arm and looked with eyes unhindered. Likewise did the Myrmarch, though her inborn shell on brow and cheeks stayed. I then bewitted I had given no thought on how to begin this speech. So I stretch forth my antennae, felt for her mind, and merely bade: ~Limi:~ “Speak.”

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_ Lady Vaeol recounts the desperation of her first major battle... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Our leaders had foreminded the foe's stroke, forwhy we shota-riders had withheld back. A mindyell hailed forth and rebeat from sith to team. We outriders reached forth to our underlings and brought all into warmind. Then for my first time ever we loped forth as I had only heard in yoretales when mighty onslaughts underwent with hundreds of steeds and riders, swordbills raised and aimed together wolderfully. Neither was I ready for the madness when our row crashed on their flank: the dreadful sight of Formian warriors right before, my swordbill’s wrench almost torn from hand when it drove into a warrior's shell, Ess’s leap overhead, and the sick lurch as he off-fought tumbling when we landed.

Then, to my fear, we rode alone. Istae, Semuane, and Vosaeth, who had ridden besides were forgone. We ran in eery emptiness where the fight had spun beyond.

Two Formian warriors ran at us. Ess wheeled away while barely I got my blade fewtered and stabbed even while a wicked axe scraped my shoulderdish. Then we swerved back and beheld nightmare. Right ahead, three Formians bore down a shota and rider, blades and stingers stabbing, the steed keening woefully. Hatred bloomed, greatened under warmind from shieldmates’ hurt and fear smiting my soul. Ess sped forward. His leap and claws crushed one while my spearstroke stabbed another’s back, and he shouldered against the third. Then we dashed beyond ere hap to see whether the last foe outlived.

I spotted Istae over the field and rode to meet. Together we wheeled and headed toward another riderteam striving with a like twain of Formians, whom we brunted and overrode. Then our new foursome outsought like rider-knots. Yet already the fight was almost fordone. All over the field Formians died (though few fled) and none withstanding.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol's illusions about warfare against the Formians get violently dispelled... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
At once we fell to our first goal: burning Formian food-fields that upheld the neighbor-colony and swarm-holds of their west-lying mainland. Here I am ashamed to tell our deed. It became dirty, ugly slaughterwork, which I would have deemed unwarriorly ere our warfare hither, and moreover unworthy, but that our captains bade us so do at our Valmaean leaders’ will. I had erenever seen Formians in life, only hue-drafts of frightful buglike things, stinger-wielding and dragging wretched lashunta to their burrows as food and egg-fodder. I was unready for the small, shiny beetle-wights that scurried and shrieked forward or scrambled lost and trapped within their burning fields. They died so ruthfully under blade and claw. We sorrowfully made sheer slaughter with will to stamp and outroot them from the world, though claim the Elders that so had the Formians done to our foremothers in Lost Valmaea while the Sage-Queens’ downfall. Many nights sinceward, I have lain awake or come upon deck, where I have knelt and prayed Burning-Mother for forgiveness, for I cannot ban their queer screams from mind. I fear their deaths have besmirched my soul.

Then our ill mood turned to dread when the Formian backlash came. We met no more grublike workers, but tall, with four legs and shells like armor, two arms wielding axbills, and deadly stingers jutting lewdly. They brunted smartly in lockstepping tows, eager and fearless. Neither could I unmind they were doing so to ward their homeland, and moreso their own folk.

...After that first year, we were sent to Ofu-Vou, and there found no offthank, only plight. Ofu Vou stands as Valmaeyana’s westernmost watch-hold within the Straits of Glory. It sits on an island forsoothly little more than a rock rising starkly from the sea. Else than a small dale and upland where Shota may hunt birds and lost thurses, its only wealth lies in a harbor, where a fleet of deep ships may lie, and stoutly warded by two armlike headlands whereon strongholds overlook. I was first aloss as to why the High Staff should send us there, since we are land-warriors.

However, we soon got word forthcoming. Soon we were packed back aship, where we joined a doughty fleet of forty ships and sailed westward, straight toward the Colonies of the Formians.

Of this warfare, I cannot easily tell what I witnessed else than odd whits: blood’s golden stain on water, the sight of ships burning at night, the dread of a huge Formian shell-hulk rowing buglike toward, and sorrow of bodies floating dead and still. Our goal within this greater sorrow-tale was a raid against Zonyu, a Formian-held island at the strait’s eastern side, as misdrawal against a bigger host that would outseek the wards nigh Lost Valmaea. We landed a strong raidhost of ten flags, mostly Qabarata and our like fellows, but with Valmaean scouts.

We sailed southward at Blighttide’s start: our Son-Retaea firdsith upon a sailship along with Qabarat warriors, where we spent the next five months but for seldom breaks at harbor. Suchly, we were going as a linksith under Qabarat’s warhost, as standard after many yearhundreds since Qabarat bestows ships and oversees the warfare. Thus we clove with firds from many other burghs - Hanazhyana, Mahyat, Lasahaua, and Reshat. I heard sometimes even skyriders from Ofu-Laubu had come southward and joined the host, though seldomly since their burgh lies so far north.

Thus we underwent almost a half-year seafare down the Shattersea Shore, where we stopped at many steads: first Lasahaua, and then Nivaea at the mouth of Great Father Hisyho, the world’s mightiest river. At each stop, more ships clove the warfleet until we tallied more than fifty ships.

I also learned all stood not easy within the Western Asana Alliance. If Son at times rankled under Qabarat’s foremostness, then we are not alone. Qabarat also claims kinship with the Valmayana, forwhy back when Qabarat was an elfburgh, the first lashunta who dwelled there were brokenfolk from Lost Valmaea. Yet Lasahaua, a wealthy tradeburgh within the Eastern Shattersea, often dared Qabarat's leadership. Reshat, which is outcomefully a Qabarat colony in the Western Shatttersea, staunchly upholds their motherburgh, while Nivaea further south offplays them. Qabarat spends great strength to uphold their stead among the alliance, almost much as fighting the Formians. For us from the North, this knowledge opened eyes.

Ere we left, from the north came a Retaea trucebode (though the Retaea make little truce), led by Lady Vosaeth, daughter of the Miniada’s clanwife, with a sixsome of damaya riders asith and korasha warrior-grooms, all war-proven moor-reavers. I remind my first sight of Vosaeth, this outlandish wild moorwife, astride her shota with the ease of one who has ridden her whole lifetime, skin of deep earthiness so marking the sun-blessed North under her tangled purple curls. At once a thought leapt: ~A shaveraze!~ - Thief-Queen! So had looked those dread elder reavers when they swept from the moorlands twelve thousand years ago. Too easily I could dream a feathery crown upon her head.

Vosaeth looked at me, beswaying grin already lit, and her first word: ~Niradaf o ihize,~ - "I heard you are wicked." At my shame she laughed, but then to soothe offthank, outlaid that she had heard I had undertaken downstall to save my housemate, which deed she blessed, and cheered me a bold maiden. Then she kissed me. Against her, I feared my boldness outmatched, for a wildness held her from the moors and their long-legged shotalashu. I found her mood thrillsome.

The Retaea sith outspoke wish to cleave our warfare against the Formians, to which both Lady-Mother and Lady-Captain welcomed their add. Thus we spent a few days letting the Retaea tarry after their long wayfare, and settling last plans. Then we took flatbarks down Father Yaro to Qabarat.

Then I got bidden to Valmayana, and there to fight under the alliance warding Asana from the Formians. The word struck me sorrowful, sunderly in Remaue’s needtide. Also as first thought, I misdeemed this fetch as further guiltboot from Oshis’s sin, for which I had already taken downness. So I outspoke it as unfair. Yet Lady-Captain unswayingly bade me forbear. In good news, however, my sendforth witnessed my rise back to reeveship as outrider and freedom to choose my own sith. Almost as swiftly, I soon had willing shieldmates: Tae, Krastaes, Nae, Hanos, and Draue, whomunder I easily gathered a team each of riders and bowmen. Even better, my newfound maidenlove Lady Istae would lead another ridersith.

Remaue and Erymi, however, would not come, whereat I forbade both Oshis and Less, though they had already beseeched, forwhy I would keep them home to tend their wifeloves. Here we underwent a tough striffle. Yet Erymi and Remaue bade I should take the men, for sake that with their doughtiness we might all more likely come home safe. When all my housemates so stood against me, at last I yielded. Thus we left Erymi and Remaue in each other’s heed, along with both Lady-Mother’s and my father’s oaths to afterlook.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure_, Lady Vaeol helps Remaue at last get through her bridetide... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Yesterday we held anew Remaue’s bridetide. It went mishapplessly, for which we are relieved. We made it an easy holiday, a late noonmeal with light snacks, foremostly the kinds fostering ripeness. Shortly therein came my father, Liavill his wifemate, Raeonyl and Shill my siblings, and Aeal and Roess, Remaue’s mother and sister. We settled for an idle afternoon and shared laughter with friends and kin, with Remaue proud and bare at our mindfulness’s midst.

Toward dusktide I left the mirthstead and lit witchlights among the blossomwreaths Tae and Erymi had set over and within our bower. The bedshroud gift from Lady-Mother was already laid and dressed. Tae, Erymi, and I deemed all ready. So we came downstairs to the housedeck. There I came behind Remaue’s seat, bent, and kissed her. She looked upward with eyes glistening. I bade the tide upcome.

With many hugs from all, Erymi and I led my bridemate up to the bower. Once there, we helped Remaue unclothe, an easy thing since we merely unknotted her skirt. Then she knelt upon the bed and waited. Bywardly came Less with Tae ahost, who came until the doorway and begged income. Remaue smilingly bestowed leave.

Less stepped inside, and Tae, with a dear kiss to her manmate, untied his kilt and loincloth. He knelt upon the bed before Remaue, greeted her, and beseeched her blessing. For a soon while we stayed talking and shared laughter. Then Less leaned forward and kissed her, whereat her grin answered. I lay beside my bridemate, which let me wrap my antennae with hers. Tae did likewise on the other side while Erymi sat at the head. Slowly Less clove our mindshare, whereat I felt his gladness and thrill.

When we rode up, from a limbhouse came Erymi, who greeted us merrily and came down the beam-stair. She outlaid this treehome and meadows belong to the Citadel to host Shota, and that Lady-Captain has given her its oversight. It is a right fast stead where she can bear her child. Furthermore, she bade we are all welcome to stay on free days. It lies an easy ridefare from the City, and also is unfar from my fatherkin’s household, which means good neighbors. In all, it is not quite the flagrhold we had forelooked, but recks something.

After Erymi gave show, I asked aside whether she has seen Oshis. She kissed me and answered yes. She hopes she can gain him to work here with her, though she has no hold on his worklog. I forespoke to see how I may help. At worst, his thrall-bond will end well before she gives birth. At Erymi’s leave, Remaue and I chose an outroom among the upper limbs. It is wonderfully lofty, open on two ends under a stout thatch roof, and room enough under rafters for an upper half-deck where we can sleep. At once we began planning how to dress it.

When we rested after noonmeal, Erymi asked a question that forecaught us: what choice had Remaue made for her wifehood? We all stilled. Remaue, however, stayed unshaken. She answered she had much thought, but had withheld choice until now, for threat of restirring illness among our friendhood. Erymi understood and thanked her. Then she added she has a good guess of whom Remaue would choose, and that she upholds and blesses it.

Lady-Captain eyed me reckoningly. She thanked my witness and said she would reckon it as share of her doomword. Then for my share, she deemed me right, and for guilt I shall be shorn of my reeveship for a half-year and shall thew as a mere spear-rider. Thus I shall at tomorrow’s dawn stand for new bid. Then she let free.

Then she bade Oshis, who stood half-dreadfully, half-hopefully. She deemed he should undergo a half-year’s thrallbond, for even my guilt forgives not his sin. Then his doom afterward should be reckoned at the yeartide. I watched his shoulders sag, both from relief and shame, while Erymi wept.

Stunnedly I stood at the hall’s side while trying to understand thought. Sorrow took me like a botttomless hole. I had not understood my reeveship’s pride, and of all I had outdone while yesteryear. That stallworth is no longer mine.

Then came Erymi. She knelt and kissed my hand. When she looked up, I cannot bewrite her thankfulness. She prayed me worship and outquoth I had saved Oshis, and that henceforth I own her boundless dearth. Then I raised my eyes and beheld the hall. Warriors came by. They bowed and beckoned me worship. Had my deed found some goodwill that I had yielded myself for my underling’s sake?

Remaue led me to our room. I lay head on her lap late while she soothed my antennae.

Today Lady-Captain again sat doombench. Before the gathered Citadel host, she asked that, if anyone has word that may sway her doom, they should speak ere she bequeathed.

Less stood forth. He told he was Oshis’s trialmate while the fight. He shrove his feud with Oshis had driven them beyond good mind, and that he forgave Oshis and would have no harm or shame come to his friend. Then Erymi stood forth. She begged ruth for Oshis, since she is bechild and owns her manmate’s sore need. She told he is a good man, and korasha fighting is no great thing.

Lady-Captain thanked their speech but answered that, even when korasha fight, they must sheed law and not wreak harm to others. Thus their word holds no ruth-sake.

Then I stood forth and asked speech. When Lady-Captain alet, I asked her the first thing she had taught us of reeveship. She answered I should better tell, which got small laughter from the hall. So I told reeveship's first thing is that reeves answer for their underlings and their deeds. Therefore, I quoth, I should answer for all that had happened three days earlier. I was Oshis’s reeve. I was the fight-trial’s marshal, and I had lost right drightship. Therefore, I asked Lady-Captain to forgive Oshis the sin and make the guilt wholly mine.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 2_, Lady Vaeol reels from Oshis's arrest and her own accusation... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Today I ran into my sister Risodess and forewared something wrong. She assured my reeveship-lack is a mere sham foremeant as a show before the Citadel. I would be forlet if I naysay the guilt wholly to Oshis's sake. Lady-Captain would not beoom me and so offthank Lady-Mother, she outlaid, without good sake.

Soon as she left, I found Lady-Captain. I asked whether my sisters had come. She answered they so had. I asked back what their deed recked. So I asked what would beneed to hold Oshis harmless in this sake. She answered anything unsurely can, but that whatever doom befalls may hinge on my witness. I stared at her a breathtide, and then bowed and left. I have much to think.

I cannot say my sister’s offer mistries me not. Yet I could not outlive, and surely with Erymi, if I would let Oshis the guilt. I full-ware my livelihood may hang on this weighbough.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 2_, Lady Vaeol bring the tale of Remaue's bridetide to a grim end... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
Erymi and Tae came and mindspoke with me. They asked whether I was all right, whereat I was befuddled. Erymi then reached my face and softly stroked, which I felt as but a puffy ache. Then I bewitted I was bruising, and what I must look. Shame hollowed my breast while the eariler unsoothness faded. Tae reminded I was the trial’s law as marshal, and moreover the highest rank here. Then Erymi read sadly that I must deal swiftly and forthrightly. I took a breathtide to understand her meaning, whereat my heart deadened.

I stood before Oshis, who knelt between Krastaes and another Korasha. I could not bear to point him my swordbill and instead set it at rest. In a lifeless voice I quoth he was bound under law for stroke against a Damaya and his better, and that he should withdraw until the Citadel to await the Matrons’ doom. Too ashamedly to eye me, he bowed head under my bid, and I almost wept. Lady Istae came forth and offered to take his lead, which I thankfully atook. She and Krastaes led him away while the guest-throng broke and clumped. Tae helped Less, whose bloody face was swollen, while Erymi hovered helplessly. I healed Less’s face so best as I could while Tae offwashed blood. They too then left for the Citadel.

I went to the tent and inside, where waited Remaue. I took one glance at her shuddering lips and tears streaming down cheek. Then I rushed, knelt, and hugged her. At last I wept; words uncanny to outlay our sorrow.

After long, I left her with her mother and sister. Then with Erymi we made the long walk up to the Citadel. I found Lady-Captain waiting in her stallroom. I stood sharp and told I would bode a sin. Wordlessly she nodded, and I told the whole deedtide, and that Oshis is now under bond. She acknowledged and bade me withdraw, whereat I came to my room.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 2_, Lady Vaeol recounts Remaue's bridetide... #pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttprg #worldbuilding #worldanvil
As theme for Remaue’s wifehood, we had made a play-set like the Warrior-Queens of yore. I wore my harness over breast, my champion-crown set about my antennae, and a goldsilk waistcloth with threadwork tassles. I bore my grandmother’s swordbill. So I hosted Remaue to the bower. She wore in her hair all the jewels we could find and had luck-runes stained on her back, flanks, and limbs, and with her bosom gilded. She wore the slimmest threadwork waistcloth that draped until her inkdrawn feet. Thus she looked in all wise like an elder heathen queen who had ridden from the moors.

To the bower I led my maidenmate, where waited the priestess. Remaue stood before her, who took rose-myrrh oilbalm and wiped it on her brow, bosom, and belly. Then she blessed and bade Remaue leave maidenhood’s sheerness and strife and become full of wifehood’s ripeness and life to the folk’s growth and betterness.

Then the throng sang the old hymn of blessing and thanks. At its end, a bell clanged, and my share began. I strode forward and rang my swordbill on the stepstones. Then I bade that any man worthy who so thought himself before gods' eyes and lashunta to claim Remaue’s maidenhead and yield her First Blessing should forth show himself now.

At my word, Oshis and Less strode forth. They were wonderful to behold: bronze skin oiled, shoulders neatly sheared, great thews in neck, arms, and thighs glistening, hair tied back, and beards trimmed. They each wore crimson waistclothes that hid little. Though Oshis is broader, Less is taller and seemed hardly less in match. Together in beseech they knelt before me. I shrive I would be hardly put to reckon which I would choose.
