But anyway the cool thing is that everything is now running unprivileged, with the help of my lil tool that ensures all permissions are set up correctly Now I’m wondering: does anyone else do this? Or do you just yolo and run as root mastodon.hupel.info/@lars/117411989…

I wrote a lil tool that goes through a Docker Compose file and for each bind mount, creates the folder on the host with correct permissions. The only thing you'll have to do is tell it about the desired state: volumes: - type: bind source: /opt/test2 target: /foo x-setup: 1000:1000:700 # uid:gid:mode https://codeberg.org/larsrh/docker-bindmount-setup

✅ Certbot That was a little more involved than I had hoped. The image didn’t have curl, so I had to rewrite the auth script in Python

I also created another lil tool that allows me to diff fully-rendered Compose files (including includes etc.) against a specific revision in Git, but that is in Bash and so hacky that I don't dare publish it

Yesterday I spent two hours debugging an issue where Docker silently skips exposing ports when a container is attached only to internal networks. It makes no sense to me and I have found no explanation for this behaviour. Any ideas? Also, I completely forgot how these debugging sessions feel

Addendum by a #valkey developer mastodon.social/@reconditerose/1170…
mastodon.social
Madelyn olson (@reconditerose@mastodon.social)
@lars@hupel.info A quick note if anyone is taking this suggestion. The way this flag works is that instead of failing up front, Valkey will try to parse the RDB file and might fail if it encounters something it doesn't know later (most likely hash field expiration code). This is a late binding failure, instead of the upfront one.
