Among other issues, it's important to remember the distinction between cause and correlation. Another big issue is the time frame used, since "which major pays off" depends a lot on when you start counting and when you end counting.

Congratulations to Georgetown University on today's inauguration of Eduardo M. Peñalver as its new president! Although a lay person, he is steeped in Jesuit values. "For eight days in April, he spent time at a Jesuit retreat center, quietly contemplating the task before him." That's a good sign.

For aspiring students and their parents who can afford to visit residential campuses, the campus tour has always been the biggest factor in an enrollment decision. Small, tuition driven colleges must do it to survive. It doesn't improve the economic diversity of the student body.
