To avoid morning meetings I blocked out my calendar with "Saving Kittens from Burning Buildings" every day from 8 to 10:15 a.m. My provost responded with a 7 a.m. meeting request. "This is violence!* I told him. #AcademicSky

Jamelle Bouie made the point (and he's disabled linking to his skeets or something?) that a lot of these red state Republicans have never had to run a competitive race and it is showing.

I am a historian and there is a tidal wave of AI slop packaged as regional history pages. The text is stripped and blended from some legit site, with some clickbait dog whistle forced in, the image is AI "old-timey" photo of something that never existed. Example:

Dang downtown Providence is so beautiful. When I was growing up in Connecticut in the 1970s it was a mobbed up shit hole of a town (or so thought everyone in Connecticut!). What a turnaround. #WorkofRevolution

Last month Renée and I went to a book talk by Tessa Hulls on her graphic memoir Feeding Ghosts. In truth, I enjoyed the talk more than the book, but it won the Pulitzer last year so that's how I know. Probably you have read it.

Today I accomplished a life bucket list item of bicycling the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park in the narrow window of time when the road is open to bicycles but not yet to cars. It was 70 and sunny and OMG the alpine scenery!

There's a certain schadenfreude watching Mike Lee melt down over Hegseth removing Mormonism from the Pentagon list of Christian religions. THIS WAS ALWAYS GOING TO HAPPEN. As soon as the Christian nationalists got a whiff of power they were going to turn on the Jews the Mormons, next the Catholics.

2/ Before I went to sleep last night, I made a Canvas announcement just in case I missed class. When I got to class 5 minutes late, Baylie already had the computer on and was working the white board for the class assignment. She gets an A! I love my students.

Have you read this? The author convincingly paints Vietnam as basically one big My Lai massacre. To me, the most interesting chapter was the last, where he shows that by 1975 most Americans understood that the US had committed many war crimes, only for the popular perception to be rewritten later
