One of my favorite moments in LOOPHOLE (1954). Tough-as-nails insurance investigator Slavin (the great Charles McGraw), sabotaging the protagonist’s jobs, one after another, runs up against equally tough-as-nails cab company owner Pete Mazurki (Richard Reeves) who basically tells him to go stick it.

Robert Karnes, Bing Russell), Fredd Wayne, Noah Keen & Harold J. Stone try to solve an impossible “locked plane mystery” in Rod Serling's TWILIGHT ZONE "The Arrival." Not a pretty face in this working class bunch. Plus a script with a convincing representation of workplace hierarchy. Great stuff.

Revisited THE VAMPIRE OF DUSSELDORF (1965) directed by/starring Robert Hossein based on serial killer Peter Kürten (also inspired M). Still liked it very much, particularly the atmospheric urban stalking of his victims w/ quick little steps that seem Chaplinesque. Hossein deserves more attention.

Received contributor copy of CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN #44 with my article on western horror in TV’s golden age, once again blown away by co-editor Vicki Smeraldi’s striking layouts. Article runs a hefty fifteen pages, even with small(ish) text and tons of photos, making it quite substantial indeed.

Recently on Twilight Zone Day I revisited a favorite, "The Thirty-Fathom Grave" which contains one of my favorite CBS music cues. For the longest time I was sure it was by Fred Steiner, but it's really a cue by René Garriguenc called "Neuro B.G." or "Neuro Background." Also turns up on PERRY MASON.

Yeah, I'm still writing this goofy western thing. Apparently I'm still enjoying it, so go figure. Right now. Seriously. Go figure. I'm also kind of enjoying these loose drawings that go with it... Here's the first part of Chapter 3. The rest is on my Ko-fi page, free to read. ko-fi.com/larryblamire

Cover gig for Tom Weaver for reissue of GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN book. Essentially a colorization job starting with me separating elements in individual layers in Photoshop. Had to draw in left side of Lon’s face via reference pics. Plus extend background. An enjoyable gig & Tom was pretty thrilled.

Sometimes I'm compelled to write something really stupid. If no one else, I suppose it amuses me—a fun writing exercise. These goofy Colt Durango things tend to just flow. Like when a bad guy empties your canteen in the sand & makes you watch. Chapter 2 free on my Ko-fi page. ko-fi.com/larryblamire

Maureen O’Hara shows her adeptness at handling a sword, as pirate “Spitfire” Stevens in AGAINST ALL FLAGS (1952). These later Errol Flynn swashbucklers, like this one, MASTER OF BALLANTRAE and THE WARRIORS, seem to get a bad rap, but I like them a lot.

One of my favorite moments from THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW—a confused Steven Geray’s great line delivery to Godfrey Cambridge as he’s about to call the police… “Already here?… How?” From the episode, “The Man from My Uncle.”

My latest commission, “Quiet Lane,” Golden Open acrylic on 12” X 16” canvas panel, finished a couple weeks ago. This is a reworking of one of my “Wouldlands” series from some years back. Happy to say it marks painting #14 bought or commissioned by my number one patron.

Been wanting to paint a portrait of everyone’s favorite walking tree for a while. “Tabanga” is acrylic on 16X20 canvas, dedicated to the late Bob Burns. FROM HELL IT CAME monster originally designed by the great Paul Blaisdell but reworked by Don Post Studios who built the suit. Painting is for sale

Orson Welles as villain in HOUSE OF CARDS (1968). Watched multiple times on TV years ago. Surprised to find it not well-regarded. Seeing it again on @kinolorber.com's Blu, still like it. George Peppard, Inger Stevens. Director John Guillermin keeps it brisk. Gorgeous locations & Francis Lai score.

2 best actors in HAWAII FIVE-0 local stock company Kwan Hi Lim & Tommy Fujiwara share scene in “6000 Deadly Tickets” fine episode involving stolen airline tix. Their bantering one-upmanship is a highlight of the show & feels genuine, Kwan's relished villainy meshing w/ Fujiwara's amusing slickness.

Con men Frank Gorshin & Cameron Mitchell execute ingenious extortion scheme using meticulous reproduction of 5-0 office & less then scrupulous lookalikes in "Welcome to Our Branch Office" HAWAII FIVE-0. I applaud them for not having cast simply play their own doubles (except MacArthur). Fun episode.

This morning I found myself thinking of this illustration I did in 89 for “The District Domino Championship” by Russian author Kir Bulychev in Aboriginal Science Fiction satirizing complacency in the face of impending disaster, carrying indifference to absurd levels. Just how absurd is up for debate

Remember when our moms used to put our name on our appetite in case we lost it? First drafts are so terrible from now on I’m starting with the second. Been doing curls with thirty-pound dumbbells. I have no idea who these guys are but my hair looks no different.

Random reminder: Wax lips sink ships. Someone told me to try using the power of suggestion so I told them to take a hike. I hate when I let my iced coffee go cold. If your jaw is constantly open are you a slacker? Also, what are slacks? New restaurant catchphrase: “Savor it, don’t flavor it!”

Random thoughts: I can crush walnuts with my fingers once they’re out of the shell. New diner name: As the Crow Fries. There are so many music awards shows now I am likely to win one. I know actors on a movie are sent to heron makeup, but who needs to watch a large wading bird get ready?
