Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I haven’t done any yet but I’m brainstorming ways to make it interactive. As a music teacher I want to include music and instruments. #kidlitchat 150
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Sometimes I just need to draw from reference when my imagination needs a break. So here is a sketch of Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams for #Diversifymyart prompt “Latinx heritage” and #kidlitartdrawingchallenge prompt “ghostly umbrella”. 020
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Took me a while to figure out which art prompt to use today. Here is #kaeleafartprompts “potion shop” prompt along with #diversifymyart “accessibility ramp” prompt. I figured modern potion shops would want to cater to all types of witches! #kidlit #kidlitart 052
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Coming back to #SCBWIArtober2026 with prompt “Crush” combined with the prompt “Fulani braids” from #DiversifyMyArt. #kidlitart #kidlit #diversifymyart2026 032
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 03/10/2026What October art challenges are you doing? This is #kidlitartdrawingchallenge prompt "Grumpy Wizard" and the "Tattoo" prompt from #DiversifyMyArt. 032
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Anyone else doing October art challenges? Here is my #scbwiartober2026 prompt “pumpkin” with #diversifymyart prompt “hearing aid”. 051
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Are you ready for all of the October art challenges? I challenge you to add #DiversifyMyArt to the art you're making for other challenges. Feel free to go out of order. Feel free to include diversity beyond what's included in this list! #kidlitart #illustration 030
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026That's good to hear! I've edited an existing polka dot brush to make a repeating heart pattern and it was okay, but I should learn how to do it properly so I can get what I really want. 001
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I love this! I'm so scared of water color but I have been VERY slowly working on it (like 1-2 pieces per year) and feeling more comfortable. My advice: do more than 1-2 pieces per year. It's such a cheap medium, so paint lots! Don't be afraid of bad paintings. You'll get there! 000
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I think I'd like to learn from Mo Willems at the moment. I've been seeing some similarities in his style and my style and I'd like to lean more into the simple and fun. I studied some of his stuff before working on my most recent board book dummy! #kidlitart 040
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026All kinds of things! Like color theory, perspective tricks, character design advice, procreate tips... #kidlitart 030
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Weirdly, the most impactful learning I've done was through Instagram carousels recently. Artists post a tip with examples. Quick and to the point. Easy to implement without going too complex and scaring me off. The carousels work well for my ADHD brain. #kidlitart 260
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Maybe not a specific skill, but the best piece of advice I was given is to just do the thing. Don't wait til you're "ready." Years ago I said I dreamed of learning to illustrate someday. Someone said "Why wait?" And so I started. Go for it! Shoot your shot! Try that new skill! #kidlitart 170
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026The best part about picture books is that they're short enough that you can start over and completely rewrite it relatively easily. Even with illustrating, doing thumbnails over and over with different ideas is worth it...just try to get it right before you start finals! #kidlitart 140
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I would enjoy more if it was summer camp and someone provided all the materials and taught me all the art things and I could make new best friends and we could have a campfire at the end of the day. #kidlitart 150
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Give me all the writing knowledge! I want to learn all the things! But with art, I think the cost of learning new mediums (and mess and effort to perfect) scares me off of trying to learn. But I guess I don't mind learning a new hack for my usual mediums. #kidlitart 120
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Yeah, songs "cheat" all the time. But if you have the musical feel, you can probably learn how to adapt it to picture books! #kidlitart 030
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I'm still figuring it out, so I will have to watch out for the flip or lack thereof! #kidlitart 010
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026One of my favorite books! Dozens of Doughnuts is brilliant with page turns too! #kidlitart 020
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I'm awesome at meter and rhyming (sorry to toot my own horn) and I would love to help you anytime! It's one of my favorite things to teach. Sometimes the best way to learn meter is by trying something and having someone help you see what is working/not working with your own words. #kidlitart 230
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I learned how to use the "reference" feature in procreate from someone's Insta post. I would love to learn how to make my own brushes in procreate...but not really because it seems too hard. I kinda want to just make my own pattern brush like a polka dot or something. #kidlitart 250
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Hi #kidlitart! Jumping in late. My wins for this month are that I updated my website and author photo AND I got to see some sketches for an unannounced thing! 360
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I don't know why this visual popped in my head, but I'm imagining a lonely chicken on an empty farm. Humorous yet heartwarming. Ok, brain. Sounds like a challenge. #kidlitart 020
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I'm suddenly inspired to write text for a story about a horse riding a bike through rush hour traffic with lots of cars so some poor unsuspecting illustrator would have to draw it, lol. #kidlitart 130
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Someone please magically gift me the patience to draw backgrounds! Alt: I'm torn, because I want my visual storytelling skills to catch up to my written storytelling skills, but I could definitely still improve my written skills, so I might choose that so I can sell more quicker! #kidlitart 140
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I know, right?! I just heard a podcast with an animator who had written/illustrated a book or series. #kidlitart 010
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I need to check some of these out! Animators have amazing skill. #kidlitart 120
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Color and scenery. Worth the google search. #kidlitart 120
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I like Molly Bang's book "Picture This." It was worth the purchase, but libraries might have it too. #kidlitart 220
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Yeah, clothes are better knitted. For my daughter, I'm thinking of getting her an easy Woobles kit for Christmas. 020
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026When I think about striking visuals in a film, the movie "Hero" from 2002 instantly comes to mind. It made such an impression on me when I first saw it. #kidlitart 110
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026It usually happens when there are a couple of equally important characters in a scene and one is definitely thinking what I'm thinking while everyone else is being normal, lol. #kidlitart 030
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I don't do enough playing with light. It makes me think back to a college drawing class where a professor drew on my picture with heavy pencil lines to show me to draw darker to add contrast. He was right, but dude, don't touch my art! #kidlitart 110
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I admire those skills! I need to get better at variety in my (human) character design. They all tend to look very samey to me. #kidlitart 010
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I like to use unexpected facial expressions to add humor to a scene that seems to be telling a different story. #kidlitart 140
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I learned how to knit once and got a few inches of a scarf finished. But I learned how to crochet as a kid and used to make tiny teddy bears. My daughter started learning this summer! #kidlitart 120
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Hi #kidlitart! Super excited tonight because I just found out whose art will be accompanying my words in a thing I can't announce yet! 150
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Same. I just introduced my kids to this movie over the summer and they also loved it. 120
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Drafting. I’m a pantser, so it’s developing as I go. 100
Larissa D. Elliott @larissadelliott.bsky.social · 08/08/2026On a roll, drafting some new board book ideas! #amwriting 170
