3.5 hours in and we have finally been able to get out of our parking space.

Still trapped. Have gone through all the stages of grief repeatedly.

Supposed to be in the New Forest relaxing in a lovely hotel/looking at trees/hunting for mushrooms. Instead I am trapped in an M&S car park. Traffic is so bad that we've been here for 90 minutes and nothing has moved.

James Blake 'I need a forest fire' on the radio. I love this song, but not today, when the air is full of smoke from fires miles and miles away.

Tongue tied Loraine is an inspired solution to this riddle. And pal is such a great option if you can pull it off. Sounds so weird with my generic accent 😫

So I am. They are bad with names, so not remembering my name is absolutely fine and to be expected But it's the 'Laurence' that I am obsessing over. Is it because I recently cut my hair short-ish? Was it a slip of the tongue? A joke? I will never ask, so we will never know.

Another social interaction that will haunt me: asking for an 'arsed coffee' rather than an iced coffee because I was tired and my mouth wasn't ready for the day yet. Got an impeccable Gen Z death stare for that one.

Today's weird social interaction that I will obsess over for a long time: someone I have known for 8 months asked me if my name was Laurence.

Tilda Swindog Swift Pope, angel baby bunny rabbit light of my life, is 6 today. For the next few months we're the same age in dog years and human years, and I'm pretty excited about out life stages lining up like this.
A dog with very soft-looking greying black fur is resting her chin on a human knee. She has huge, intelligent brown eyes

My neighbour's taste in music is best described as 90s school disco: Cottoneye Joe, Jump Around, The Shoop Shoop Song.

My physio has told me that I need to manspread and that I'm fucking up my hip and back by not taking up space. Did not expect that, but I'm into it.

Nature has been generous this week. Just finished eating blackberries and ice cream covered in fig leaf syrup. I also made mugwort face oil, and I'm attempting to make blackberry, linden and basil mead as well. (Fermentation scares me.)

Having a good Friday: dog is with me at work, FIP on the radio and every song is better than the last, and I'm doing a content audit and marking 90% of pages as delete.

I would really love to know why he thinks women aren't worthy of good storylines. Related: I really need to know the deal with Ari Aster and mothers.

Other than that it was spectacular (as in: a lot of spectacles), some good performances, and it's the first film by the director I've enjoyed in a long time.

There is a breeze running through my flat. After a week of intense stuffy heat, I am revelling in this refreshing zephyr. It's been the main topic of conversation at home today. Need to check which deity I should be thanking for it.

My sympathies. I haven't done many courses as an adult, so I had no idea it was A Thing.

He's clearly not listening, just deciding what he wants to broadcast next. He seems like a nice person, apart from this terrible habit.

He was talking about wanting to start growing a plant today, one that I have been growing for a couple of years. I told him where I got it from and that I'd been harvesting the leaves recently. He then said 'You know you can harvest the leaves.' 💀💀💀💀💀

I'm doing a herbalism course at the moment. There's one man in the sea of women doing the course, and every time we meet he: 1. Finishes the teacher's sentences 2. Talks over the teacher 3. Contradicts the teacher It is absolutely insufferable.

So I decide to run a research project to look into it. I'm doing interviews, diary studies and a survey. I'll be making the results freely available and hope that it will help us to benchmark, plan, and understand where AI can (and can't) help. Read more about the research lapope.com/ai-in-charit...

AI in charity content: a sector study - Lauren Pope
AI tools are changing how content gets made and how it gets found. This research is about understanding what that means for the charity sector — and hearing directly from the people doing the work.

Lauren Pope @lapope.bsky.social · 08/07/2026
Some background: Everyone's talking about AI, but I've found that there's surprisingly little solid data on what's actually happening in charity content teams — what's working, what isn't, and how far adoption has really gone beneath the hype and the headlines.

Lauren Pope @lapope.bsky.social · 08/07/2026
Can you help me by completing a survey for a study on AI and charity content? It covers AI tool use, organisational support, and how you feel about AI. It's open to anyone who produces content as part of their role. You don't have to work for a charity. It takes 5–15 minutes tally.so/r/pbZqQP

If you're free on Saturday 18th July, come and join the protest march and the street party and show your solidarity. Also, fellow local businesses - sponsorship is very affordable, get involved. transpridebrighton.org/trans-pride-...

Trans rights are under attack and discrimination is rife. Back in 2015, the UK ranked first for LGBTQIA+ equality out of 49 European countries. The UK now ranks 22nd, thanks to the UK Supreme Court ruling on trans equality. (Source: Equality Network)

Reason number 104 I love being self-employed: I am/my business is sponsoring Trans Pride Brighton again this year. I'd do it anyway but, sadly, it feels more important than ever to show support and add my voice to the protest.

I've been making a lot of cold, fresh herb infusions this summer. Today's is rose, lemon balm, and peppermint, and it tastes like a cool breeze in a country garden.

It's doing your role and experience a disservice too. And it's part of the deal with junior members of staff - it's your role to help them learn and develop.
010
Lauren Pope @lapope.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
If they're coming and asking you 'How do I do vlookup in excel?' maybe it's fair enough. But otherwise, telling someone you lead 'have you asked ai?' when they come to you with a question just seems dismissive. How does that help your relationship with your team?
210
Lauren Pope @lapope.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
I also feel like I should expand on why that 'ask ai' thing irked me so much. Anyone with any initiative whatsoever will ask Google or AI how to to do something before they ask their manager. People ask their manager questions when they want expertise, guidance, reassurance or permission.

I need to work on my poker face (and my terrible attitude, tbh) if I'm going to make it through the rest of the day.

Someone just said that AI is good at everything, then said that leaders need one piece of advice and that is that if a member of their team comes to them with a question, they should say 'Have you asked AI?'.

If she gets really hot in here I'll do it. There's also a strong wrist that she'll bark incessantly if I don't drive anywhere and/or sulk when she realises we're bot going for a walk.

Contemplating going and sitting in the car with the dog for the rest of the day - it has air conditioning and would be considerably cooler than our flat which has got stuffier and stuffier all week.
