I hope seniority can be an academic writing papers and having a PhD student. Without lots of projects, meetings and other responsibilities. If there are little prospects for PhDs outside academia, the system shouldn't be producing 20 PhDs per senior and be based on 80% of temporary positions.

Let alone that to achieve a permanent position we are expected to having acquired grants and managed projects. This means that unstable and stressed postdocs require other postdocs and predocs to work on them, reproducing the precarity in order to try to escape it.

Seniority and tenure are increasingly linked to managing projects, which depend on an increasing number of unstable postdocs and predocs. And the few fundings for postdocs to gain independence are a crazy marathon of submissions with little chance of success.

It is crazy how this year 21k people applied for the Marie Curie postdoc scholarship and that only about 1.6k of them will get it, with a success rate even lower than in the past (in other words: 13 applicants for every fellowship awarded). The whole academic system is broken.

Esto va más allá de una anécdota en las centrales nucleares europeas. Bastantes industrias dependen del caudal de los ríos. A mayor calentamiento global, mayor número de días de parada y mayor impacto. Mientras tanto, no realizan las inversiones necesarias para descarbonizar su proceso productivo.

The focus is on paid work time and its relationship to demographics, productivities and inequality. We also zoom in on agriculture and education, sectors that can be considered as labour intensive but are key for fulfilling needs and wellbeing. (however, CR agri is very focused on exports).

Ara que s'ha esfondrat l'obra de Montcada és un dia com qualsevol altre per preguntar-nos per l'obra o, al menys, per com es paga. Recordem que és un projecte que val uns 900M€ que surten en bona part del pla Rodalies, malgrat que no repercuteix en res a la xarxa de transport (és una millora urbana)

This heatwave in Europe is insane. Over 10 days of beyond tropical nights (above 20C). No one here is prepared for this. Also, weather companies should by default publish pre 1990 averages alongside the forecast. Honestly, failure to do so is yet another kind of climate denial.
